Chapter 528: The ambush

Chapter 528: The ambush

Before the mysterious group attacked Irene’s house, a group of Queens Guild led by Nayla, having completed the assignment of Irene, their leader, was returning to the headquarters.

Edgar and his two younger sisters were sitting in the same SUV with Nyla. The girls were trembling with fear and uncertainty, while Edgar, to their surprise, remained surprisingly calm and even to some extent joyful.

Part of his joy was due to the fact that he was surrounded by beautiful girls. As a young man who had recently gone through the transition age, his eyes shone with happiness.

It didn’t bother him that he was being taken as a prisoner. Edgar admired the fact that he was captured by the members of the Queens Guild, which consisted exclusively of girls.

You could say that Edgar’s mind thought he was being taken straight to heaven.

The twins, sensing his mood through their connection with him, pouted and began pinching him from both sides.

"Aw, aw, aw! Stop it!" — Edgar twitched on the seat.

The girls from the Queens Guild smiled as they watched the antics of the adorable twins. They really wanted to rub those two cheeks, still full of childish vivacity.

A convoy of SUVs with the emblem of the Queens Guild, moving along one of the main roads, encountered an accident. The rescue services that arrived before them blocked the street and redirected the convoy along another bypass street.

After driving some more distance, the lead SUV stopped abruptly. The other SUVs following him swerved to the sides, almost crashing into each other, but also successfully braked.

Nayla asked through the SUV’s communication device to contact the lead SUV.

"The street ahead is blocked by black SUVs, Captain," the girl from the lead SUV reported.

"Captain, this is an ambush!" another girl suddenly appeared on the air. "The street was also blocked at the back."

Nayla, sensing something was wrong, immediately sent a signal for help.

She was aware that they were currently in the capital of the Federation, and a force capable of ambushing awakened ones like them was either crazy or had enough confidence to stand up to them.

"Captain, strange armed men in black suits and demon masks have appeared here," a girl from the lead SUV reported. "They’re making gestures, it looks like they want to talk."

Upon hearing this, the girls of the Queens Guild, one by one, began to leave the SUVs, leaving the captive restaurant staff inside.

None of them were afraid when they heard that those who stood in their way were armed.

Nayla also left her SUV, leaving Edgar and the twins inside.

Accompanied by two other girls, she appeared in front of the column and saw nearby those who blocked their way.

As mentioned, she saw about ten people in black suits with identical black demon masks. Nayla could tell by their physique that they were all men, but to her surprise, she couldn’t tell for sure if they were mortal or awakened. Besides, she couldn’t see their faces hidden behind the masks.

And that only increased Nayla’s anxiety.

"Be on your guard," she relayed the message, and the girls, as if on cue, began to carefully inspect everything around them.

The place where their column stopped seemed to have been chosen on purpose. There were tall buildings on both sides of the street, perfect for ambushing shooters.

All the awakened girls used their Soul Forces to scan the surroundings and detect any signs of lurking enemies. However, despite their best efforts, they were unable to detect any living creatures, not even ordinary pets or insects.

This fact only increased the anxiety that gripped the girls.

Nayla came forward to talk to those who were blocking their way.

"Nayla Rivera, vice-leader of the Queen’s Guild, one of Queen Irene’s trusted people, pleased to meet you," one of the men in a black suit with a demon mask said in an artificially altered electronic voice, stepping forward.

Apart from him, all the other men in black were armed.

Nayla immediately noticed that they were alert and ready for any action. Unlike the man, she didn’t know who she was dealing with. Not only was he hiding behind a strange mask, but he also changed his voice, which made her assume that he was unlikely to introduce himself to her.

"Who are you? And why did you block our way?" Nayla asked a direct question.

"Miss Nayla," the man in black said. "We don’t want a conflict with the Queens Guild. I can say with confidence that we are not your enemies."

"However, some circumstances led to this, and the reasons lie in the people you detained," the man said. "We want you to give them to us, and we’ll all go about our business."

"So it’s about them, isn’t it?" said Nayla.

"No, they need Edgar and his younger sisters," — Nayla realized instantly. After all, apart from these three, all the other employees of the restaurant were ordinary mortals, including young girls.

Nayla couldn’t just give them away. Irene personally asked to detain these three and bring them to the Guild headquarters.

"What if I refuse?" she asked.

"Miss Nayla, don’t be in a hurry to refuse," the man in black said, and then added, "We have a suggestion that you would be interested in."

Nayla frowned, but asked anyway:

"And what is it?"

"The plan failed. The target wasn’t at home," a message sounded through the communication device embedded in the man’s mask before he could say anything.

"Eh..." the man sighed.

He didn’t like this plan from the beginning. Now that the plan had failed and Queen Irene would find out about the attempt to kidnap her mother, he didn’t know how she would react.

In words, everything seemed simple: to kidnap the mother of the Leader of the Queens Guild and simply exchange her for the people they needed.

From the very beginning, they had no intention of harming a loved one of the Heroes of the Federation, one of the pillars of humanity.

But what’s done is done.

"Plan B," he said through a communication device, and at that moment windows opened on both sides of the column, from where people in modern black military equipment leaned out. They fired rocket-propelled grenades loaded with special smoke shells towards the convoy of SUVs of the Queens Guild.

Some of the girls reacted and when they tried to fend off the shells, they exploded, releasing dense smoke.

In the blink of an eye, the column was surrounded by a cloud of strange smoke, which quickly suppressed the Soul Force of the Awakened Girls, depriving them of all kinds of vision.
