Chapter 292: Eat Me Alive

Chapter 292: Eat Me Alive

"And how the hell do you expect me to manage that?!" Brooke yelled at her, as though the man Cassie asked to see was not seated across from her at the table.

Cassie scoffed, "I know the Grayson heir wouldn’t pay your kind any attention, but you’re not completely useless in this situation. I’m sure the director or the producer of your mediocre film must have his contact. Squeeze it out of them and give it to me."

Brooke rolled her eyes, she looked at Thane, whose stoic demeanor had shifted into obvious disgust.

"I can’t possibly do that! He’s very wealthy and very powerful, he’ll eat me alive." She said, Thane laughed and covered his mouth, taking her words out of context.

Brooke kicked him under the table, "Don’t laugh." she mouthed, fighting back the wide grin playing on her lips.

"I don’t give a damn! Do anything to get me an audience with him! Or else I’ll post that picture and make your life a living hell. Don’t forget, this is a very crucial time for you. If a scandal were to happen just before your movie release..." She left her sentence hanging.

Brooke sighed in defeat, "Alright, I’ll try but I can’t guarantee I’ll be able to. From what I hear, the Grayson heir is very aloof, no one has seen him on set a single day since filming started." She said.

In response her sister promised, "If you manage to do this, I’ll delete that picture of you." She said, then ended the call.

Once the call ended, Brooke pinched her temples and shook her head, "That girl is hopeless."

"What do you reckon she wants with me?" Thane asked.

Brooke frowned, "Don’t act coy, you and I both know why she’s after you."

Thane pinched his chin, "She’s engaged and pregnant, I don’t think she’d risk her reputation over some infatuation. It could be over something more important."

Brooke wanted to say that Cassie was a nut job who had no sense of priorities, but she refrained. "You may be right, ever since you had Hannah go work at the agency, I was expecting something to happen." She took a pause. "Speaking of Hannah, are you sure it’s safe to throw her in the mix? Those people are ruthless."

She remembered how Cassie treated her, it pained her heart to imagine Hannah having to go through something similar.

But Thane seemed unbothered, "Hannah is a capable woman, she can handle herself."

Brooke pursued her lips, there was still doubt in her mind. "If she gets caught, Cassie will make her suffer." The decision hadn’t sunk in well with Brooke.

"She won’t get caught, Cassie isn’t that intelligent to notice anything. And while we’re speaking on the agency, what do you want to do?" Thane asked.

Brooke tightened her fists, "I still haven’t given it much thought yet, I mean, I still can’t believe you got me the agency as a wedding gift." that paired with this trip seemed a bit excessive to her.

She still hadn’t gotten him anything in return.

"I just know, that I want Cassie to suffer, but as to the agency I’m still at odds. If I’m being completely honest, I’d like for the workers there to have better lives. But I know that it’s way too soon to make an appearance." She receited the thoughts she had been harboring.

Thane smiled warmly at her. He had expected no less from Brooke, she had always wanted to help others, even when she didn’t have to.

"Then, you can think about what it is you want to do over our honeymoon trip." He said, tracing his leg up hers. His intent stare on her, he said, "While I eat you alive."

Brooke eyes went round,"T-Thane!" she scolded, her cheeks tinted red at his distasteful joke.

Changing the topic she said, "Before we leave, I’d like to pay a visit to Mr Julian, we haven’t really spoken since the funeral."

Thane’s smile dropped, "Brooke, I don’t want you associating yourself with people who don’t concern you. He’s Cassie’s father, it’s best you stay away."

"I know that, but he isn’t like the rest of them, and right now he must be feeling lonely." She tried to reason.

"Look," he sighed, "I just want the best for you, I hope you can understand that. You get hurt whenever you’re around those people, put yourself in my shoes, I can’t bear seeing you act that way." He held her hand, "I know you had hope he was your father, but you have to move past that, and focus on what’s in front of you."

Brooke parted her lips but shook her head, she cracked a wide smile. "You’re right, I shouldn’t get involved. But still, I can at least see him one last time and say goodbye can’t I?"

There was a hint of reluctance on Thane’s face, but he ended up saying, "Fine, I’ll arrange everything for you."

"Thank you." She said, "For looking out for me." She quickly added.

"You’re my wife Brooke, of course I want the very best for you." Thane told her, then gave her hand a tight squeeze.

Dylan stepped out of his sister’s hospital room, only to find someone waiting outside. At the sight of the badge sitting on the officer’s belt, Dylan frowned.

"What are you doing here? Didn’t I say I have nothing to say to you?!" He snapped, then marched forward.

Axel grabbed him by the wrist, "Hey, don’t walk away yet, I just need five minutes."

Dylan glared at his hand, promoting Axel to quickly let go of him. He sighed and turned around, "Look here officer, I know why you’re here, it’s the same reason you’ve been here for the past three months. But my answer is still the same as before, I know nothing, and I am not willing to cooperate."

"Why?! Don’t you want justice for what happened to your sister?" Axel challenged.

Dylan gritted his teeth, "My sister is sick."

"Your sister worked for Mr Halton as his maid, she was found unconscious in his house and rushed to the hospital. Ever since she’s been in a coma. I don’t think I buy your story, kid."

"I. Am. Not. A. Kid." He glared sharply at him.

Axel raised his hands in defeat. "I wouldn’t treat you like one if you weren’t acting like this. Co-operate with me, and I swear to you we’ll be able to drag Ethan to justice. Your sister was wronged, and I know you must’ve felt helpless." He came in closer and rested a hand on his shoulder, "Let me help you."

Dylan slapped his hand away, "Why? So that we can get hurt again? I’m not foolish enough to fight against someone that ruthless and that powerful. So my answer remains no!" He walked past him towards the elevator.

He halted, his fists balled and his shoulders stiffened, "Don’t come here again, or I’m calling the police." He announced then marched furiously away.
