Chapter 291: A Closed Door Meeting
Brooke’s eyes went wide as she pulled out a brochure, "Thane, what is this?" she asked scanning through it’s contents.
"It’s a resort, I want to take you there to congratulate for finishing your first film." He told her.
She smiled until her eyes noticed the location on the front cover, "But this is in..." she raised her eyes to meet his, "You want us to travel again?" Her memories of their last trip were far from forgotten.
"I hear that country is beautiful, we could use this trip as our honeymoon too." He suggested.
Brooke frowned as she dropped the brochure on the table, "Thane, is something wrong? You said your business over here is booming, would it be smart to leave all of a sudden?" she could tell that this trip was just a cover-up for something else.
Caught out, Thane sighed and dropped his shoulders, "There really is no keeping anything from you, is there?"
Her heart dropped, so he was hiding something from her. She stretched her hand across the table and gave his a tight squeeze, "Just tell me, what is it?"
"I’ve been speaking with some specialists, about your leg, and they want to have a look. They’re very promising people, and have treated a good number of similar cases." He explained.
Her voice dropped to a whisper, "And you think they’ll be able to help me?" she hadn’t wanted to voice out the hope she was feeling, but Thane had never given her reason to doubt him. He was a man of his words for the most part.
He gave a nod, "I would’ve have them come here, but I think the trip is needed. Zachiel isn’t just laying in wait either, the old man will try and make your life harder." He reminded her.
"I hadn’t thought of it that way..." But she had, countless times she wondered if Zachiel was going to get back at her for stealing his grandson, what about his parents, and Matthew, why were they just so quiet all of a sudden?
"Also," he said, pulling her out of her thoughts, "I think it would be good to get out of here while the movie’s being released. You can practice your acting more, I hear there’s a world class acting academy in that country."
Brooke’s heart skipped a beat. She knew the academy he was talking about. Everyone in her sphere of work knew about it, but not just anyone could make it.
"But Thane, that place is very strict, even the richest people can’t get inside, it’s strictly based on merit." She pointed out, her hand on his shaky.
He passed her a warm smile, "I know you can do it, there’s never been a doubt in my mind that my wife is the best actress."
Hearing his words made her want to take a shot at it. Since filming was done, she decided maybe she could take a break and focus on her treatment. She recalled the prosthetic’s battery drained out, and how humiliating it was when Cassie stomped her out.
She never wanted to go through something as embarrassing moving forward.
As her thoughts lingered around Cassie, her phone rang. She reached for her phone, it was Cassie calling.
"Is something the matter?" Thane asked, noticing the shift in her demeanor.
She showed her screen to him, "I was wondering why she’s been so calm, it seems she was laying in wait all this time."
"Answer it." He picked up a glass of wine and brought it to his lips.
Brooke nodded, she answered the phone and placed it on the table. It took less than a second for Cassie to speak into the phone.
"I told you to answer my calls the moment I ring you! Do you want me to post that picture I have on you? I wonder how many news outlets would pay good money for it?" She laughed towards the end.
"What do you want Cassie?" Brooke asked, her tone listless.
"Why are you getting so paranoid dear sister? I haven’t even given you my orders yet."
Brooke hated having her husband hear how classless her sister was. She stole glances at Thane, who kept his gaze locked on the phone.
"Fortunately for you, I have only two orders you need to follow, oh and don’t worry, they aren’t anything too difficult." She announced.
"Just spit it out."
"Gladly." She said over the sound of card honking. "Firstly, I want you to guarantee me a spot in director Ann’s new movie. Filming starts next year, just in time for me to be ready to star in it."
"And how do you suppose I do that?" Director Ann was fairly popular, she mostly worked on tv dramas, the types that Cassie excelled in.
"I’m not that heartless, I know a wash up like you has no connections. Don’t fret, I just sent you an address. Go there and make sure you do everything humanly possible to get me the role." Cassie ordered.
Brooke tapped on the message that popped up, "Cassie, this is a hotel!"
Cassie laughed, "I worked so hard to get that information. One of the sponsors will be in that hotel room, he’s expecting you too. You’re not a child, you understand what I’m trying to say here, don’t you? Make sure you thoroughly satisfy-" Cassie’s voice was cut off by Thane banging his fist against the table.
Silence followed for a half minute.
Cassie hissed, "You don’t like it? Huh?!"
Brooke looked at Thane, he looked composed, but his act just now let her know he was disgusted.
Her heart sunk.
"Cassie, you want me to sell myself for you?" Brooke interrogated.
"I want you, my loving big sister to do everything possible to ensure I get that role." She replied sharply.
"And, as for my second request, I want you to arrange a meeting for me." Cassie inserted.
Still appalled, Brooke managed to ask, "A meeting? With who?"
Cassie promptly replied, her eagerness made Brooke wonder if perhaps this was the main reason why she called. However, her response made Brooke be the one to slap her palm on the table!
"What?!" Brooke spat out.
Cassie repeated herself, "I want a closed door meeting with your sponsor, the Grayson heir."
