Chapter 259: The Scene At The Hospital

Chapter 259: The Scene At The Hospital

The ambulance arrived in minutes, and Julian was carried out in a stretcher to the nearest hospital. Kayden and Susan left with the ambulance, accompanying Zachiel, whilst Brooke and her family were left behind.

Accompanied by the driver, Brooke took a cab to the hospital, too panicked from the frenzy of fear to realize how much she stood out in the lobby.

Heads turned towards the woman dressed in a nightgown covered in blood. Some people took out their phones to video, but fortunately, the driver took off his jacket and used it to cover her face.

"This way Mrs Grayson!" He led her towards the elevator, his back shielding her from the public eye.

Once they were in the elevator, the driver stepped away from her and took out his phone from his back pocket. "I’m calling master Grayson." He informed her.

But Brooke was far too shaken up by the turn of events to note what he said. The elevator reached the upper floor, where Brooke only had to follow the trail of fresh blood to where Kayden and Susan were waiting.

Their faces were solemn, Susan’s eyes were watery and swollen, a depressed look graced Kayden’s weary eyes.

Brooke approached them, her feet heavy with guilt. ’I should’ve stopped it...I should’ve done something!’ her heart sunk the closer she got, tears flowing freely down the sides of her face.

Kayden was the first one to notice her. The moment their eyes met he charged towards Brooke. Reflectively, she raised her hands to block the slap that she presumed was incoming.

However Kayden left her stunned when he rested both hands on her shoulders and looked her in the eye. "Are you hurt anywhere? Do you need a doctor?"

Choked with tears she could only offer a head shake.

He sighed in relief, "That’s great to hear."

Brooke sniffled, why wasn’t he angry at her? She turned to Susan who reclined against the nearest wall, sobbing silently. Their eyes met for a brief second, but Susan sharply turned her head aside, breaking contact.

"Come sit, you must be tired of standing-" he tried to gesture her to a seat, but was cut off by the ding sound of the elevator, followed by hurried footsteps!

Kayden and Brooke looked over their shoulders to see Cassie and some police officers charging straight towards them!

Brooke’s eyes went wide! Why the hell was Cassie here?! She balled her fists in anger and turned to charge at her sister, only this time with the intention to beat some sense into her.

"Stop it," Kayden discreetly held her wrist, he whispered, "You’d just be playing into her hands if you retaliate now."

The officers came forward, an older man whom Brooke recognized to be the police captain stood in front of his colleagues.

To Kayden, the captain announced, "We were informed of a stabbing incident at your household about half an hour ago. Our source tells us that a Brooke Larson committed the crime."

Brooke didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.

Who else would have the audacity to call the police after commiting a crime aside her demented sister?

Kayden surprisingly kept his cool, "Officer, as you can see everyone in our family is shaken by this attack, we cannot engage in any form of questioning whatsoever." He told them.

The captain narrowed his eyes, "Are you aware that obstructing an investigation is a serious offense?" He asked, pointing a finger at Brooke.

Defensively, Kayden stood in front of Brooke, "And may I ask who made the damn report? Her?" He looked to Cassie who hid behind the other officers, Serena standing next to her.

Seeing as Kayden wouldn’t co-operate, the captain shifted his focus to the woman perched behind Kayden.

"Brooke Larson, it hasn’t even been a full day since you’ve been discharged from prison but yet another attempted murder allegation has been filed against you." The captain pointed out.

Brooke wiped her tears away, "I didn’t stab anybody, the person who called you over is the real culprit."

Cassie immediately refuted her claim, "How could I have done such a thing? And to my own father at that?!" She raised her voice, turning heads their way.

Serena seconded, "Officers, it can’t be coincidence that she’s been arrested before. This woman is insane! I saw her take the knife and stab Julian with my own two eyes!" Her mother said, once more choosing Cassie’s side.

Although that was nothing new to Brooke. She turned to Susan, who had but said a word the whole time. Only to see her weakly approaching the scene being caused. Brooke went over to her and tried to help her, but Susan raised her hand, refusing to let Brooke touch her.

Cassie covered her grin with more sobs, "Aunt Susan!" She cried, "I can’t even begin to imagine what you must be going through. If only daddy didn’t take in a wretched bitch like her!"

She turned to the officer, "What are you waiting for? Arrest this woman before she gets away!"

The police captain, who knew this woman was engaged to Ethan Halton, decided to take action to try and prove himself to his benefactor.

At first, he was afraid to go after Brooke especially after the bitter encounter earlier. But now, he found a way to be in Ethan’s good book.

To himself he grinned, ’I’ll just quietly arrest her and hand her over to Mr Halton.’ he figured that whoever was backing this woman up wouldn’t be able to touch him if they were unaware of her arrest.

’After I tender her to Mr Halton, she’ll be his problem and not mine.’ he reasoned, taking out his handcuffs.

"Miss Larson you’re under arrest for-"

-Smack-

Midway through his sentence, a hand came cracking down on Cassie’s face, landing a sharp slap on her cheek!

Had Serena not held her daughter firmly, Cassie would’ve fallen over backwards!

"You bitch-" Cassie tried to cuss her out, but Susan raised her hand and landed another slap right across her face!
