Chapter 258: The Victim And The Suspect
Hannah pulled over at the hospital, where she was certain Gilbert had been admitted to. She went over to the receptionist, and made the necessary inquiries, but was soon directed to the police for further questioning.
Her hands resting in-between her thighs, Hannah slouched down her gaze pointed at the ground.
How did things get so complicated? She groaned, trying to recall how everything was such a mess.
"Miss Hannah?" A baritone voice called out to her.
She raised her gaze from the floor to the pair of black boots, all the way to the man dressed in casual wear. "Yes?" She asked, wondering if he was the officer she had been waiting for.
Confirming her thoughts, he introduced himself, "I’m detective Axel and I have some questions to ask you about the victim." He informed her.
Hannah nodded, "But officer, how is he doing?" She inquired.
Axel kept a straight face, "His condition will be disclosed based on the outcome of our interrogation. I insist that you comply."
"Fine. Ask away then." She felt pissed by his straightforward talk, but ultimately couldn’t do anything about it.
Axel took the chance and began the round of questioning. "One, what is your relationship to the victim?"
Hannah calmly replied, "I’m his coworker. Ex coworker anyway, he was just fired by our boss."
"And what work do you do?
"We’re in the service industry." She replied sternly.
"And the suspect? Was she also in the service industry?" Axel demanded, the spite in his tone evident.
More people than he liked had shown up at the hospital, some reporters, while the rest, die-hard fans of the popular sensation Cassie Crane waited outside the hospital.
For reasons he still couldn’t wrap his head around.
Hannah replied his question, "No, she wasn’t, and no she had no motive whatsoever to try and harm him. I’m sure that it was a huge misunderstanding along the line somewhere. I mean, she did call for an ambulance, I doubt any killer would make a move that risky."
"I’m sorry, but I’ll need some proof that you two know each other..." Before he could finish speaking, Hannah had taken her phone out and flashed him photos she had taken of Gilbert unaware.
Looking at those pictures, Axel couldn’t tell if they were co-workers or a couple.
More importantly, for someone who was some sort of ghost in the system to have so many photos seemed off. The whole station had gone through hell trying to get a backstory on the victim.
Yet, this random woman pulled his photos out like it was nothing.
Keeping his poise he told her, "You’ll need to send those photos over to be scanned and tested. For all we know they could’ve been forged or generated. Until then, you’ll have to wait, or bring stronger evidence to back up your claim."
Hannah glared at him, "Is that so? I can’t even see a sick friend?"
Of course she knew it wouldn’t be that easy to get access to the only witness aside the bartender to what truly happened at that bar.
"Alright." She stretched her palm out, "Give me your phone, I’ll scan your contact info."
Axel reached into his jacket and whipped his phone out. He passed it to Hannah, however just as he did a message popped up.
However, it was a message that left Hannah stunned. She raised her gaze to Axel who looked like he had been caught red handed...
Brooke’s heart pounded loudly when Cassie stormed into the room holding a blade in her hand, a deranged look in her eye.
It was as though time stopped and everything became slow, save for her racing heart and the nervous pants she took.
The blade was aiming for her eyes, but it was too fast for her to dodge completely in time.
In one clean slice, the knife came down on her, about to traumatize Brooke once again.
Expect...
"No, no, no, no!" Cassie muttered under her breath, taking two nervous steps until she backed into her panting mother.
Trying to scold her Serena yelled, "Cassie don’t do it-" but it was already too late. Lying on the floor, in a pool of gushing blood was Julian, with blood flowing from the side of his neck!
A loud scream escaped Serena’s lips!
Her voice snapped Brooke out of her daze. Weakly, Brooke collapsed to the ground next to him, and tried to hold him to her chest.
"H-Help! Someone please help!" She cried, but her voice was no louder than a silent sob.
Swiftly, Cassie wiped the handle of the knife against the hem of her skirt, and then threw the knife at Brooke.
In moments, some maids rushed to the scene, attracted by Serena’s shouting, only to see their boss bleeding on the ground!
"Master Julian!" They cried.
Brooke turned to them, "Call an ambulance, now!"
"Yes ma’am!" A maid said, reaching into her apron and pulling out her phone to make the call.
Holding Julian tightly, Brooke sobbed uncontrollably, her leg was at an unusual angle because of the prosthetic, so she couldn’t even give him proper comfort.
His eyes watery, Julian reached for the side of Brooke’s face and gently cupped her cheek in his palm.
"I..."
"No, don’t try to speak, please, save your strength." She begged.
But Julian tried again. "Please... forgive Cassie...for my sake...." He begged in-between coughs, his voice lower than a whisper.
Hurried footsteps approached the room belonging to both Susan and Kayden, who had heard the commotion happening.
"Brother!" Susan shrieked, petrified with fear. She ran past Cassie and Serena to her bleeding brother.
Kayden widened his eyes, his heart racing as he watched the father he swore he hated bleed out.
"What the..."
Why was the old man on the floor? Why was he blowing? Who stabbed him?
"Someone call an ambulance-" he was in the middle of shouting when Cassie drowned out his voice by yelling and pointing...
"It’s her! I saw it with my own eyes! That wench Brooke stabbed him!"
Author’s Note: The other half of the mass drop comes out tomorrow guys. Anyways, while going through this Chapter I remembered a bit of my initial first character draft and some random facts I thought to share with you guys.
Fact 1: Thane was actually never supposed to be the male lead. He was supposed to die at Chapter two or three from his illness, having never confessed his feelings to Brooke, his childhood friend.
Fact 2: Axel was actually supposed to be the male lead.
Fact 3: Brooke was actually framed by Cassie and sent to prison where she met Axel who she teams up with to get revenge against her family. And by revenge I mean hunting them down and killing every last one of them. Of course the family had more members, who did a whole lot more fucked up things to Brooke.
However, Thane refused to die. The man was resilient and I ended up changing my mind.
But even this version wasn’t my next line of thought. I’ll share my second idea for this story in the next mass drop guys!
Anyways thanks for reading!
