Chapter 260: A Chilling Threat

Chapter 260: A Chilling Threat

It took Brooke by shock the most when Susan landed a slap on Cassie’s face, not once but twice!

Just like Kayden, she didn’t seem to believe Brooke was the one behind the stabbing. Or at least Brooke had hoped.

"You wench how dare you!" Serena charged at Susan, but the officers held her back, trying to diffuse the situation.

Still holding her cheek, Cassie screamed, "How dare you hit me?!" Throwing a wild tantrum.

Some of the people on the floor started to gossip amongst each other.

-"Hey, doesn’t that woman look familiar to you?"

-"She kinda looks like...what was that actress’s name again? Maddie?"

The captain gestured his officers to take care of the bystanders, his men quickly sprung into action and in seconds the floor was cleared out.

Once again, Cassie yelled, "I’m asking you a question-"

But Susan raised her hand again, making Cassie shut up and duck for cover. Fortunately for her, Brooke stepped in, stopping Susan before she could make a mistake.

Standing in front of her, she said to Cassie, "What the hell is your problem?! You can’t just let other people be happy can you? Mr Julian is such a sweet person, he was willing to forgive all of your bullshit! He might be the only person in this world capable of actually loving a person like you! Yet you dared to do..." Brooke couldn’t even bring herself to finish her sentence.

But her words fell on the deafest of ears.

Serena laughed, "Look at who is acting all high and mighty? Cassie is his daughter in case you’ve forgotten. She had a reason to be there. But you? Why the hell were you at our house? Just admit you’re jealous of-" before she could say another word, Susan cut her off.

The woman took a sharp inhale, her angry glare pointed at Cassie.

She turned to the Captain and looked him dead in the eye, "If you’re going to arrest anyone, then let it be me." She said, bringing her wrists forward.

Kayden frowned, he pulled her by the shoulder, "What the hell are you saying?!"

Brooke held her wrist, "Why would you do to prison? When it’s that...." She bit her cheeks, too angry to even mention Cassie.

But unlike Brooke and Kayden who were panting harshly from their anger, Susan retained a somewhat calm demeanor. Even when slapping Cassie, she was still, not a single trace of anger leaking.

She returned her gaze back to the captain, "Arrest me now, because if you don’t, I swear I’ll kill Cassie Crane the moment I step foot out of this hospital." She promised, her tone venomous.

Her words sent chills down Cassie’s spine.

Why did the old bitch not believe her story about Brooke stabbing the old man?

Taking advantage of the situation, Cassie began to cry, "Officer, you’ve seen it now. This woman will kill me! My life, and my child’s life is in danger! You have to do something about them!" She whined in an impossible tone.

The captain was at a loss for words as the situation grew more complex. However, he was certain that Cassie Crane took the most importance, she was after all the fiance of the richest man in the city.

"Enough of all this theatrics! You two, cuff that woman, she’s coming back to the station for questioning!" He ordered his subordinates.

But Kayden wasn’t having it. "We have cameras installed in our house. I’ve already called the staff and they’re having the video prepared as we speak." He announced, sending Serena and Cassie into a panic!

Cameras? What cameras?

Serena nervously asked, "W-Why are we wasting time? Arrest her..."

Kayden glared sharply at Serena, "Touch her and see what I’m capable of doing." He turned to Brooke, "Take my aunt outside for some fresh air."

Brooke nodded, "Of course." She gently held Susan by the hand and led her towards the elevator walking past an upset Cassie and a worried Serena.

What video? Was Kayden bluffing? Was he being serious? Why didn’t she check the house for blind spots?!

Once they were gone, the captain said, "You really think obstructing my investigating won’t cost you-" his reprimand was cut short by his phone ringing.

He at first tried to ignore it but the call came through again. He took out his phone to end it, but soon discovered it was his personal and not work phone in his pocket.

A frown painted his face. ’No one but my closest family and friends have this number.’ he thought, turning around to see who the unknown caller was.

"Hello." He said into the silent phone.

He waited for some seconds but no one responded. The only thing he could hear was the faint sound of water splashing.

His tone, irritated he demanded, "Who the hell is this?!"

When no one answered the call, he tried to disconnect the line, only to hear a name that made his stomach churn.

"Zoey." Said the person on the other end.

The captain started to sweat. "What are you-"

"That’s your only daughter’s name, isn’t it? She’s eleven years old and lives with her mother." He explained.

"How do you know all this?! Who are you?! I swear if you lay a finger on my precious daughter I’ll make you regret it!" He raised his angry voice.

But the calm, baritone voice did not falter or cower to his threat. Instead they gave a little laugh. "I never knew pigs like you could feel any form of emotion. Considering the countless assault cases you’ve covered, I assumed your conscience was dead and buried."

With each word spoken, the Captain’s chest pounded, "Who are you? And what do you want from me?" He lowered his voice so his subordinates wouldn’t get an idea of what was going on.

"I-Is it money? How much do you need? Just leave my little girl out of this-"

The voice over the phone turned cold. "If you want to guarantee your daughter’s safety, stay the bloody hell away from my wife!" He threatened, his voice demanding and intimidating.
