Chapter 620: The Son of a Legend
Klein Schwarz felt suddenly discouraged as he remembered, but he quickly replied.
"It happened several years ago, in a battle against the Devourers of the Southern Mountain Range. She faced a powerful woman who used curses and all kinds of powers. I couldn’t get there in time," he replied sincerely.
Matthew nodded carefully and looked at the silent woman once more. "Was she a woman with two-colored hair? Red and blue at the bottom, quite beautiful, but with blue skin?" he asked, describing the woman, Lilith.
At his detailed description, Karla looked at him, astonished, and nodded repeatedly. She even tried to make a sound, but not even a noise came out.
Matthew smiled then.
"You’re lucky, Miss Karla. Fighting and surviving against that woman can’t be easy," he replied, although he knew that Lilith hadn’t even taken the fight seriously.
Gray suddenly joined the conversation. "Young Master, that woman you describe... Is that Lilith?"
"Yes," Matthew replied. ’I met her recently, and she’s powerful."
Gray’s eyes lit up with fervor. ’How powerful is she? I saw her from afar before, but I couldn’t see much."
"She could kill you, just like you told me before. And very easily."
Gray was momentarily shocked before nodding. He now knows that there are several people who could kill him, due to the emergence of these new leaders, who have 150,000 or more in power. Furthermore, he has always known that he must be careful with Cecily Edevane, even though she is more than 300 years younger than him, as there is a possibility that, in a battle between the two of them, he would have difficulty winning or might not even be able to do so at all.
But someone who could kill him with ease? Such a thing shouldn’t exist in this world.
But when he saw that woman from afar, he could feel the oppression of death, and he knew that if there was anyone who could kill him, it would be her.
Now that Matthew had confirmed it, he realized that the world was simply too big, even in the current era.
Matthew, for his part, decided to return to the main topic and walked toward the Allen Clan. There wasn’t much to say here.
"Gray is the person with the highest level in the Dietrich bloodline among those present, so I have high expectations. But I didn’t expect you to be the second best, Old Martin. No wonder your energies vary so much."
Martin smiled a little. "Originally, I was supposed to be the Heir of that era, but I’m incompatible with your abilities, Young Master."
"Haha, I can see that. But your variable energy is your power and greatest advantage, so I will choose you. You too, Mr. Allen." Matthew finally pointed to Alice’s grandfather and then looked at the librarian.
"You helped me a lot with that little book you gave me back then, Librarian. Although I’ve had the opportunity to see you, I’ve rarely been able to talk to you closely because of the missions. But you’re not from any Vampire Clan, are you?" he asked.
"Young sir, don’t worry. We’re all on missions and fighting for it. As for belonging to a Vampire Clan... I wasn’t born into one."
"You weren’t born into one? Do you mean you were part of one at some point?"
"Edevane."
"Ohh, I see. Then why do you have my abilities too? Ever since I saw you, you seemed curious, but according to the records, you don’t belong to the Allen, although some seem to believe you do."
The librarian finally smiled.
"I’m sure you can see my bloodline better than anyone else, Young Master. You should already know whose son I am."
Matthew nodded gently.
"Now I can see it clearly. So, is he alive?"
"I don’t know. The last time I saw him was 1,000 years ago."
"How old are you?"
"1,015 years old."
"And your mother?"
"I never knew her."
"..." Matthew remained silent after several questions and nodded to him.
"Your father was my father’s most honorable subordinate in the ancient era. A worthy First-Class warrior, despite being a Third-Class Member of our Clan. So I will reward you, Mr. Hoffman. Welcome to the New Era, and I hope you and your father can reunite." Matthew said, even bowing slightly toward him.
"Thank you for everything you have done for our Clan." He concluded softly.
The librarian, whose last name was Hoffman, was naturally frightened to see him like this. "Young Master, you don’t need to do this..." But he was interrupted by Matthew’s hand.
"Mr. Hoffman, we have always respected the powerful, but do you know who we admire? Those who never give up, even though they have fallen countless times. Mr. Hoffman, your father, is one of them."
"This..."
Matthew ignored him, even though his mind was in chaos. He hadn’t been able to analyze this man properly before because he couldn’t see the bloodlines correctly, but wasn’t he the very son of Paul Hoffman?
The man who wrote the books he had read in the Academy Library several years ago. The same man later appeared in another book, as if he were alive several million years after the extinction of the Dietrichs, and finally, information about him from thousands of years ago ended up reaching Matthew again.
He was a man he now remembered clearly, his father’s most loyal subordinate and a man of legends, perhaps the most legendary outside the Dietrich Clan. It is said that, before the Great War, he had lived for more than 25 million years. Matthew does not know this, and it could just be a rumor, but that is what is said.
Even for an immortal, such a long time is absurd, but not only did he not leave the Dietrichs and found his own independent clan when his father gave him the opportunity, he founded his clan as a subordinate of the Dietrich clan, thus initiating what, a few thousand years later, would be considered the Five Great Clans below Dietrich.
And even though his entire Clan was exterminated because of that decision, he still continued to fight for the Dietrich Clan for 10 million years!
Back then, Matthew used to call him "Uncle" out of respect, but now, calling him Ancestor Dietrich would be an understatement for that man’s loyalty.
He was a man whom, if he were alive, Matthew wanted to see again and reward with whatever he asked for.
His mind was in turmoil because of it, but he quickly calmed himself down.
After looking at everyone, he walked away.
"Only you will be chosen for now. Three from the Allen Clan and two from each Independent Clan. Additionally, Mr. Hoffman."
Eight people in total.
"Step forward and take a seat. We will begin immediately."
