Chapter 304: An Angel And A Demon
Julian gently tapped Cassie on her shoulder, "Hey, I think we should go back, there’s enough eyes on us already as it is." He gently whispered to her.
Brooke folded her arms, "There’s a seat next to my bag, and it’s in front, I’m guessing that’s yours." She said to Julian. "You don’t need to go to the back-" she was saying, but he cut her off.
"I would rather sit next to my daughter, than some fancy bag." He said, then nudged Cassie to follow him.
Cassie did not want to budge, she felt that if she left, she would be admitting defeat to Brooke. However she had no choice, people around them had started to whip out their phones.
With a sigh, she went with Julian, fuming inside, until they were redirected to seat at the back, next to the staff members.
"Are you okay?" Julian asked her, but she ignored him, pouring her attention on the big screen, wanting to see what an amateur like Brooke could’ve possibly pulled off.
Meanwhile in the front, Brooke had a frown on her lips, as she watched Julian leave with Cassie, she felt defeated. Still, she took a deep breath, relaxed her shoulders, then returned to her seat.
Dylan turned to her, "Are you okay?" He asked.
"Never been better." She managed to respond, as the movie started.
The movie started, and right from the bat, Sadie’s skills were not overlooked, the crowd were receptive to her witty remarks, her emotional acting, down to the way she delivered her lines.
It was clear from how she moved that she had experience in the industry, the same experience she got from working at Luther’s agency, as Cassie’s shadow.
As for Damien, there was no surprise, he outdid his previous performance with this new character. The plot seemed to work perfectly in his favor, one might’ve said it worked in his favor the best.
His performance from the beginning down to the last scene was flawless. Some of the popular movie critics invited already started to speculate that this movie would gain an award, solely off of his acting.
Naturally, there was high praise for the set used, and the editing of the scenes. Since so much money had been rumoured to be poured into production, everything about the film seemed high quality.
The sound design, costumes and all the sets used were another angle to solidify the movie getting an award.
Brooke turned to Dylan, once his first scene popped up, he was anxious, since it was filmed around the time his sister’s health took a dip. He had given a passable performance, but that was right about it.
"That kid doesn’t stand out as much, that was pretty average, wasn’t it?" Two guests seated two rows behind whispered loudly.
Brooke rested her hand over his jittery fingers, "It’s okay, this is just your first appearance." She had acted with him, practiced with him, Dylan had ironically been the best part of her first filming experience.
So she was certain that he would somehow leave a good impression on the guests around.
Dylan nodded, as he took slow breaths. For someone who only did this for the money, he seemed to care a lot about what people said about his performance.
Brooke smiled, being the youngest on set, she had unintentionally started babying him.
And then, as everyone was still hung up on a performance by Damien, the scene shifted to the first scene Brooke shot, where she received the news about her sister’s banishment.
Everyone was so fixated on Damien, that Brooke’s acting took them by storm. The moment she fainted on screen, the room fell silent.
A pin could’ve dropped and it would’ve been heard.
Until her scene was over, everyone’s breath was held tightly, in complete awe of her talent...
The movie ended, and after it was the after party hosted by the producer for all the guests in attendance.
As everyone stepped out of the viewing room, their shock could not be contained after what they had witnessed on screen.
In the reception hall, Damien was naturally flocked by some invited directors and script writers, who wanted him to work on their next production.
Sadie was in the middle of answering some questions, with president Lucas strictly by her side, regulating the Q&A.
Whilst to everyone’s surprise, a popular Broadway producer approached Dylan, and handed him his card.
"Give me a call, if you’re looking to move onto your next project. I can see some real potential in you." The producer said, before leaving the premiere.
Dylan turned to Brooke, wide eyed stun on his face. She flashed him a congratulatory smile and shot him a wink.
However, unlike everyone around her, Brooke stood at her table, alone, with no one offering her any role or flocking to her side. In fact, what was even stranger was that despite being desolate, she had everyone’s gaze pointed at her.
Yet no one dared come close, until...
"Oh? What an outstanding performance from you! I didn’t know you had that in you. I’ve never seen a better villainess on screen for ages." Cassie greeted, walking over to Brooke’s table.
Brooke turned to leave, but Cassie grabbed her by the elbow. "What? I was just joking, don’t tell me you’re going to start a fight over a little teasing." Her loud voice drew people’s attention towards them.
Brooke peeled her fingers off her arm, then wiped off her touch.
"Sorry, I didn’t mean to strike a nerve. I was just...surprised, you were a better villain than the story’s antagonist, you must have some talent." She remarked, pointing out the painfully obvious. "After all, that was just acting, right?" She laughed.
Unlike Brooke’s first appearance in the movie, the majority of her performances were underwhelming, and what was worse, the only other recognizable scenes from here were the ones where she acted bratty and mouthed off to her sister.
Though her acting for those scenes were amazing, the way the film was edited, just seemed to paint Brooke as the villain.
And now, dressed in all black, next to an angelic looking Cassie, they looked like a stark contrast of an angel and a demon standing side by side.
Brooke grabbed Cassie by the shoulder and leaned in, confusing Cassie by her sudden proximity.
With a smile on her face, she whispered into her ear, "Acting?" She laughed cynically. "I’m sorry to be the one to tell you this Cassie, but everything I’m about to do to you from here on out is very far from acting."
