Chapter 277: A Very Risky And Dangerous Idea
Back at Luther’s mansion, Cassie and Serena were having a field day over their genius plan!
"I told you mother! Brooke stands no chance! With this, her career is ruined!" Cassie cackled, helping herself to the breakfast laid out.
Serena made a fanning gesture at Cassie, "You really are the queen of wits, we’ve finally nipped that problem in the bud. With this leverage, she’ll finally leave Ethan alone, and we can live in peace."
Hearing those words, Cassie couldn’t help but shake off the uneasy feeling in her chest. Ever since the previous day, and Brooke had stood up to her, she couldn’t place her doubts to rest.
"That Brooke had never spoken back to me. Who the hell could be her sponsor? Just who could that wench be fucking?" She frowned, trying to think of who would be powerful enough to make a wretch like her act out.
Just as she had that thought, Scott arrived at the mansion, and furiously charged towards Cassie, his hand raised in the air. Fortunately, Serena caught his wrist, and stood defensively in front of Cassie, shielding her.
"Serena get out of the way! This bitch is going to be the end of me!" Scott yelled, struggling against his sister.
"How dare you?!" Cassie yelled from behind her mother, "Did you just try to touch me?!"
But her uncle did not care. "Do you even have a brain?! Why did you stab him?! How could you stab Julian?! The old man did nothing to you! What is wrong with your damned daughter?!" Scott raged against Cassie.
"Humph! The old man had it coming! How dare he?! He acted out, forgetting who his real daughter was, it’s good he got a taste of who he was trying to cheat out of the inheritance." She said, completely delusional.
Scott’s jaw fell. He looked at Serena, who couldn’t even muster up the courage to say a word. She was there when it happened but she wasn’t able to stop Cassie, and things ended up escalating into what had happened.
In her daughter’s defense, Serena said, "I don’t think the wound was deep, he’ll pull through."
Scott hissed, "You fools! Those people are nothing like Luther and Ethan. You’ve harmed the old man, and it’ll be the last time you ever get to see him. Susan is a very strict woman, once her brother recovers, she is going to make all our lives hell."
Serena gasped, "I-Is that true? Don’t they suspect Brooke at all?!"
Cassie still was unbothered, in fact she was pissed off. That was starting to sound like something Brooke had threatened her with. "What hell? I’d like to see Brooke or that old bitch try anything!"
"Serena, do something about that insolent child! If I knew things would go like this, I would’ve tried to get Brooke on board with the plan. She seems more sensible than this stupid bitch!" Scott cursed, his hands running through his hair.
Hearing his uncle say that, Cassie began to understand the gravity of the situation. She sheepishly asked, "Uncle, you can help me out of this, right?"
Scott balled his fists. "Idiot! I went to the hospital and Kayden had me thrown out! I’ve worked with them for nearly two decades, but I was thrown out like I was nothing!" He yelled.
"What?!" Serena and Cassie exchanged quick glances with each other.
"B-But I’m their family!" Cassie argued.
"Do you think Susan has accepted someone like you?! If anything, I think she suspects you the most. She’s going to foil all of our plans if we don’t do something quickly."
"But what can we do? Tell us brother, how can we salvage this?" Serena begged, trying so hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Scott sighed, "Don’t worry, there is one way, but..."
"But what?! Spit it out already!" Cassie yelled, irritated.
"It’s a very risky and dangerous idea." Scott confessed, piquing the interest of Serena and Cassie, who were just about desperate to do anything.
While all this happened, Thane arrived at the hospital where Gilbert was admitted, and as per what Brooke had asked him to do, he called Hannah out to take him to see Gilbert.
Hannah was stunned beyond words to see Thane Grayson at the hospital, he had always hated them, but here he was and to see Gilbert of all people.
"This way, master Grayson." She directed him, half excited that he came, but half worried on what this trip could mean.
Would it spell good or bad news for Gilbert?
She pushed her thoughts aside when Thane asked her to leave and return home to help Brooke. He insisted on seeing Gilbert alone, then went inside and shut the door after him.
Mindlessly, Gilbert said, "Hannah you came back early, did the cafeteria run out of-"
"I’m not Hannah." Thane said, pulling Gilbert into the harsh reality. He raised his head to see his boss...ex-boss and immediately tried to get up to greet him.
But Thane raised his palm, "That’s not needed, stay as you are. I just have one question to ask you and I’ll be out of here. I’m only here because Brooke asked me to." He said, making sure Gilbert understood he wasn’t here for him.
A small smile played on Gilbert’s lips. "Thank you for taking the time out to see me."
Thane quickly cut to the chase, "Tell me, who was it that had you poison me? Who in the family was it?"
He already knew that it was Maverick, it couldn’t have been anyone but him, he had all the resources and the talent for it. But he wanted to hear it from Gilbert, and just like Brooke had said, he wanted to know what leverage Maverick had on Gilbert.
As though reading his mind, Gilbert said to him, "The person who hired me was not Maverick Grayson." He said to Thane, catching his attention.
That was impossible. Who else in the family could’ve orchestrated such a plot?
Gilbert lowered his head, despite the pain in his lower abdomen and said, "I am sorry, but even I do not know who it was that hired me."
