Chapter 269: An Uneventful Wedding Night
"And you’re welcome to tell whoever it is backing you up, I’m sure they’ll abandon you for being so useless." She said before taking her leave.
However, just before she left, Brooke called out to Cassie, and made her a promise. "Cassie, I really am a hopeless fool. I keep falling into your traps, and yes Serena, you really do know your children well. But," she hardened her tone and levelled her eyes.
A mean scowl on her face she swore to them, "I’ll get you! I’ll get back at both of you! Even if it’s the last thing I do! I swear that I’ll make you both pay! This is the last time I’ll ever be beneath you, Cassie." She looked like a rabid dog as she cursed from the depths of her stoamch.
Her tone lighter, she cracked a grin, "I wish, that you live a long, healthy life, my dear sister. Because, I’m going to be the one to drag you out of that heaven into a hell I’m going to create!" She swore, as Cassie and Serena marched out of the washroom, ignoring her words.
Or at least, Serena thought so.
Laughing, she reached for Cassie’s shoulder. "Can you believe her? Does she think that we’re scared of her threat-"
Cassie loudly slapped her touch away, her eyes filled with anger and panic. "That bitch! How dare she?! I’m the one above her, so why..." Brooke’s face from earlier flashed before her mind. The condescending look in her older sister’s eyes whilst she spoke to Cassie.
Cassie breathed heavily, her confident smile transformed into a paranoid grin, "Why does she keep acting like I’m beneath her?!" She screamed, thankfully, it was still early in the morning and no one was around.
They had carefully picked the time to go after Brooke, and we’re thankful that the janitors were mopping the surrounding areas, so most people were still at the lobby on the grand floor.
Serena was stunned, wasn’t Cassie so cocky just now? They had the photo and the knife, they had leverage over Brooke, they could take her out whenever they wanted. She wouldn’t go near Julian anymore and Ethan would be getting married to Cassie soon.
Everything was going exactly to plan.
So why did Cassie look so shaken up?
*Flashback*
They got married at court, with only Serena and Luther to stand witness on Brooke’s end. For Ethan, he came with two people he had hired to act as his family, insisting to Brooke that they couldn’t make the trip.
Brooke had always dreamed of a big wedding as a young girl, but after she lost her leg she had given up on that dream. In fact, she had given up on getting married at all.
But now, that she had Ethan with her, who would protect her from any danger, she couldn’t help but smile at the printed document sitting on her lap.
"We’re finally married." She said under her breath, taking in the feeling of her life finally changing for the better.
Ethan bought her family a bigger house, and had Brooke move in with them. This decision seemed strange to Brooke, as she believed that she would move in with Ethan and live far away from her deranged sister.
But Ethan responded, "Why would you need to do that? You’ve always lived with them haven’t you? So why stop now?"
Brooke furrowed her brows, she picked up the glass of wine next to the hotel bed and poured Ethan another glass of it. "I know, but we’re a couple, it would inconvenience them if we both stayed there." She lied.
Since she introduced Ethan to her family, they had all been on their best behavior, this allowed her to pretend the whole time that her family was normal. That she was normal.
But her husband left her stunned with his response, "Why would I move in? I’ll live where I always have."
Brooke’s eyes went wide, "What? How can you live away from me?" She didn’t understand what he was saying.
"Your new house is far from the company, I can’t make the trip every day. I’ll be losing precious hours just because we have to live together. It’s a hassle." He said then took a sip.
Her heart raced, but not for the right reasons. She dropped the bottle back and inched closer to Ethan on the bed. They had changed into the hotel robes, and opened up a bottle of wine gifted to them by Luther. Brooke had been looking forward to tonight, but this conversation seemed to ruin the mood.
She tried again, this time her tone softer, and her head pressed gently against Ethan’s chest. "I can live with you, it can be just the two of us, waking up together, having breakfast together, going on dates togther-" she smiled at the thought of it.
Yet again, Ethan made her heart sink when he mindlessly said, "I’m not going to waste my time tending to a jobless crippled."
"W-What?" She was paralyzed in stun.
He said it again, only his words were harsher, "Your family can take care of you the way they always have. I’ll visit occasionally, when I have the time. But, I can’t have someone who can’t walk bother my time."
The words kept slicing at her heart. Ethan had never spoken to her like this before while he was chasing after her. She thought he was angry because of their argument and tried to please him. She traced her fingers along his robe, downwards, hoping to create a mood. But Ethan grabbed her wrist and tossed her aside.
He got up, "Get dressed. We leave this hotel in an hour." He told her sternly, gathering his clothes from the couch and then dashing into the bathroom to change into them.
Leaving his wife, heartbroken and utterly confused.
But unbeknownst to Brooke, her wedding night was just the begining of her uneventful marriage to Ethan Halton.
