Chapter 253: Just A Kid

Chapter 253: Just A Kid

"That bastard Ethan isn’t answering my calls! Has he forgotten he’s supposed to have dinner here tonight?!" Cassie hissed, staring at the call log on her phone.

Serena reached for her daughter’s hand, "I’m sure he’s busy with work-"

Cassie retracted her hand, "He’s busy with that slut, Brooke! Maybe he’s gotten her out of prison, he could be with her right now."

"That’s not possible-"

Cassie reached for Serena’s phone and threw it against the wall. "Then explain to me why he won’t answer my damn calls! What if he’s gotten her back? What’ll happen to the engagement? To my career?!" to Cassie, her career was in a delicate place.

The engagement to Ethan had watered down the heat from her fans about the pregnancy scandal. But if Ethan called it off and went away with her sister, her career would be in jeopardy.

Serena parted her lips to speak, but a knock on the door cut her off. A maid opened the door and slowly peeked her head in, her body trembling.

A harsh glare painted Cassie’s face, "Didn’t I tell you not to come into my room-"

The maid announced, "Mr Julian is back and he’s with a guest, a young woman. He’s asked the both of you to the dinner table."

Serena and Cassie exchanged quick glances with each other. A woman? Who could it be?

Serena plastered a polite smile, "Tell him we’ll be there shortly."

The maid nodded sharply then excused herself out of the room. Once she was gone, Serena turned to her daughter, puzzled, "This is the first guest Julian has brought over, and a young woman at that. What do you think this means?"

Cassie scoffed while getting up, "Isn’t it obvious? The old man has already accepted me, if he can introduce me as his daughter to others, our work is finished on this end. We just have to contact that bastard Ethan and get him under control." She reasoned, staring into the mirror.

Serena raised a brow, "Why don’t we call my brother Scott? He’ll know what to do."

But Cassie didn’t see this as an issue, "That old man is too emotional, we can easily manipulate him. It’s that hag, Susan we need to be wary of. Ever since she got back, she’s been inside her bedroom and hasn’t stepped out. The same goes for that jerk Kayden, we need to eliminate them for good."

Serena wanted to put up more of an argument, but she ultimately decided to let Cassie handle things. She helped her daughter change into more presentable clothes, and led her downstairs, where she could hear Susan and Kayden discussing at the dinner table.

’Shit, we’re late!’ Serena panicked, she wanted to make a good impression on Julian, hoping it would rekindle some sort of flame between them.

Smiling widely, they walked into the dining room, where a woman was seated at the head of the table, where Julian usually sat, her dark black hair and tallish frame standing out.

Cassie cocked a grin as she approached the area. "Daddy! I’ve missed you!" She said flinging her arms across Julian’s neck in a semi embrace.

She parted her lips to say something, but her jaw found itself dropping to the floor when she saw none other than Brooke sitting at the head of the table!

"You bitch!" She cried, straightening her back and pointing at Brooke.

Serena rushed over, "Cassie manners-" she tried to chide her, but was equally stunned to see Brooke!

"Brooke?" She gasped, "What are you doing..."

Cassie cut her off, she grabbed a glass of wine from the table and charged furiously at Brooke. And before anyone at the table could say a word, she doused the contents all over Brooke!

"How dare you show your face in front of me?!" She reached for her hair, but Kayden got up, and pulled her by the elbow, forcing her away.

It took some seconds for Serena to snap to her senses and make her way over to her daughter. Holding her by the shoulders, she cooed, "It’s alright, I’m here to protect you from this wretched woman."

But that was not enough, Cassie shook off her mother’s touch and marched over to Julian. "Daddy what the hell is this woman doing here?! Do you even know the sort of pain she forced me to go through?!" Cassie claimed, her hand resting dramatically on her chest.

While she spoke, Brooke got up from her seat to wash up. Kayden hurriedly passed her a napkin, "Come with me, I’ll show you to the restroom." He offered, then led her out of the dining area.

Serena could only watch helplessly, as Susan got up and followed the two.

What was going on?

Julian dropped his cutlery, "Cassie." His voice dropped, "The only reason I’m being this calm is because of the possibility that you could be my daughter." He informed her.

"W-What?" Cassie couldn’t believe what she was hearing. She looked over to her mother, who was equally as stunned.

"Daddy, what are you saying-"

Julian cut her off, "You didn’t tell me that Ethan was married to Brooke in the first place, now did you?"

Cassie’s heart dropped, "Where... where did you hear that?" She managed to ask.

"Seeing as you’re not denying it, I guess I’m not wrong. When you told me about her, why did you fail to mention that you cheated on her and stole her husband?" He interrogated.

Serena hurriedly rushed to her daughter’s aid, "She’s just a kid, they make mistakes all the time-"

"Like pushing Brooke down the stairs? Was that also a mistake?" He replied sharply.

A nervous sweat ran across Serena’s forehead. "Julian, this is all a misunderstanding, is that what Brooke told you-"

Cassie raised her voice, drowning out her mother’s words. "So what if I did all that? Isn’t it in the past? What does any of it matter now?" She demanded in a haughty tone.
