Chapter 232: Chapter 80: Finishing the Postpartum Period

Ke Lian’s appearance is undoubtedly handsome and sharp. Among his many delicate facial features, those sharp and thick brows of his make him seem most aloof and stern, almost unapproachable—which might be one reason why every year, so many new recruits at the Military Department are intimidated by him.

As Ke Lian’s wife, Du Xixi possesses perfectly gentle and graceful features. Even her other already exquisite features tend to look aggressive, but when her brows slightly knit together and her eyes shimmer like water, it’s hard for anyone to harbor hard feelings against her gentle demeanor.

Ke Lian looked at his twin sons, who had inherited his eyebrow shape, and helplessly twitched at the corner of his eyes, feeling somewhat wronged himself.

However, as the ’culprit’ responsible for providing those eyebrows, Ke Lian could only soften his expression amidst the unrestrained laughter of Ke Xing and Chen Yin. He quietly reassured Du Xixi, who was still pouting slightly, showing a hint of displeasure, "Xixi, it’s my fault. But in the future, I’ll teach them well and make sure their temperaments are more like yours."

Though eyebrow shapes don’t truly determine one’s personality, as parents naturally they don’t want their children to be misunderstood as unapproachable just because of their fierce-looking appearance.

The "deficiency" in their natural attributes could only be compensated through efforts acquired later in life.

Du Xixi was reluctant to release the two sons she had just held in her arms not long ago. Listening to Ke Lian’s "admission of mistake," she merely lifted a brow slightly, humming with a hint of joy.

She was merely a bit tangled with herself to begin with, and Ke Lian’s words, tinged with coaxing intent, easily dissipated her concerns, which were quickly tossed aside. Thus, the matter was settled.

She realized her two sons had already nestled deeply into her arms, falling asleep comfortably. With a gentle smile, she lowered her voice to ask Ke Lian, "When can I be discharged? I haven’t even seen what our new home looks like."

The villa originally inhabited by Du Xixi and Ke Lian had been turned into ruins by the viciousness of enemies, with many of the furnishings inside reduced to dust, leaving only a few pieces preserved.

Fortunately, the Ke Family owns several villas, and even within the same villa neighborhood, there were plenty, so there was no worry of not having a place to stay. However, Ke Lian and the others felt that the security of that villa neighborhood was no longer trustworthy, so they decided to move to a residence beside the Imperial Palace after some careful consideration.

This residence is also one of the many properties of the Ke Family, and since it’s located next to the Imperial Palace, its security matters fall under the palace’s jurisdiction. Whenever the Imperial Guard patrols the surroundings of the palace, they include the residence as well.

This residence would be the new home, but only Ke Xing and 2569 had visited and seemingly arranged it carefully, while Du Xixi had always lacked the opportunity to leave the military hospital.

Initially to recuperate from injuries, then to nurture the fetus, and in the coming days, she would need to undergo the postpartum confinement ritual... Du Xixi was exceedingly curious about the new home.

Moreover, the hospital isn’t a place suitable for long-term residence, no matter if Du Xixi was now in the obstetrics department, a place that welcomes new lives—death intruded often enough, not to mention in other departments.

Every day there is the omnipresent smell of disinfectant stinging the nose, wailing sounds occasionally arising from outside the windows, and a gradually numbing emotional state...

Du Xixi let out a light sigh, really not wanting to remain in the military hospital any longer. But as memory recalls, it seems that after giving birth, women have to undergo confinement—no wind exposure, no catching cold, no washing hair... Hair!

Before Ke Lian could respond, Du Xixi suddenly looked up herself, her smooth, long black hair sweeping forward from the back of her head, falling over her chest and onto the faces of the babies, appearing devoid of any greasiness.

The slightly scented ends of her long hair were curled, brushing gently against Yiyi and Er Er’s faces. As if tickled, Yiyi and Er Er, who had been sleeping soundly, wrinkled their cute little noses, mumbling and opening their eyes.

They couldn’t see Du Xixi, and naturally, couldn’t see the soft strands already resting on their faces, merely following their instincts to scratch aimlessly at their faces, inadvertently causing the strands to move, intensifying the tickling sensation.

The babies pouted, their beautiful brows furrowed, seeming poised to let out a few cries. Du Xixi quickly, with a chuckle, gathered her hair away, tucking it behind her head.

Yiyi and Er Er, feeling the itch disappear, were now gratefully humming, their eyes closed, continuing their sleep as the little deities of slumber.
