Chapter 231: Chapter 79: 11 and 22_3
Du Xixi didn’t have time to ponder the whereabouts of 2569 and Rob, as her full attention was already captured by the two tiny babies.
The newborns, just three days old, had their red, wrinkled skin already smoothing out, revealing their originally milky white and healthy complexion. Coupled with their little rosy mouths opening and closing, Du Xixi felt that no other children could be cuter than her own.
Du Xixi didn’t have any experience holding babies, especially such tiny ones. As soon as she took them into her arms, she froze, but what happened next made her even more rigid!
The two babies originally had their eyes tightly closed, as if they were lost in a sweet dream, blowing little bubbles while making adorable snoring sounds.
But when they came into Du Xixi’s arms, whether by coincidence or some natural mother-child connection, they moved a bit sleepily, then opened their eyes and gave her two cute smiles.
Du Xixi giggled. As the saying goes, a smile without showing teeth was exactly like theirs—these two little ones, without teeth, showed only their little red tongues and bald gums when they smiled!
In fact, newborns really can’t see the wonders of this new world clearly. Even a week-old baby can only see some objects nearby.
Moreover, they don’t really understand emotions like happiness or sadness. The smiles they showed Du Xixi were likely just the result of uncontrolled nerves, muscles moving on their own.
But Du Xixi was just happy anyway.
"Wow! As expected, when with mommy, the babies become obedient!" Chen Yin was currently being driven out every day by Ke Lian for being "noisy" and not allowed to see his sister, so he stayed in the next ward, guarding the two babies with Ke Xing.
Ke Xing and Chen Yin, being the babies’ biological grandfather and their close-as-family "uncle," naturally loved the babies dearly and always wanted to play with them.
However, the babies seemed like the reincarnation of sleep gods. They were still and quiet, loving nothing more than lying in their small beds to sleep. Only when Ke Xing and Chen Yin annoyed them too much with their chatter did the babies reluctantly grunt a few times, seemingly asking them not to disturb their sleep.
There are many quiet babies, but these two were so quiet that Ke Xing and Chen Yin were worried and sought a pediatric expert. After a checkup revealed nothing wrong, they were relieved.
Chen Yin unhappily pointed at the two nephews’ little noses, seeing they seemed to dislike him and leaned towards Du Xixi’s arms while constantly wrinkling their little noses. He pouted and said to Du Xixi, "It’s been three days, and no matter how many times Ke Xing and I teased them, we’ve never seen them smile at us."
"Of course, don’t you see who I am?" Du Xixi arrogantly raised her eyebrows at him, but when she lowered her head, she found the two babies had already fallen asleep. Du Xixi found it truly amazing, as they had been awake just a moment ago when Chen Yin was poking their little noses! Not even a sleep god could fall asleep so quickly!
Du Xixi watched them for a while, feeling they were adorable no matter how she looked at them. But after a short time, she frowned slightly and shot an unsatisfied glance at Ke Lian beside her.
Ke Lian was originally looking at his wife’s profile tenderly, feeling that no matter how cute the babies were, they couldn’t bring as much joy as the smile on Du Xixi’s lips did.
But caught off guard by Du Xixi’s glare, Ke Lian thought Du Xixi was tired from holding the babies and quickly leaned over, asking with concern, "What’s the matter? Are you tired? Let me hold them!"
If someone else was asking their wife such a question, it might very well be an excuse to hold the babies, but right now, it was Ke Lian who was asking.
Everyone, including Du Xixi, believed that Ke Lian was truly worried about her being tired and not simply wanting to hold the babies.
Especially Ke Xing and Chen Yin, who felt that if these two children didn’t have the shared blood of Du Xixi and Ke Lian, Ke Lian probably wouldn’t even glance at them, let alone hold them.
"Two kids totaling less than twenty pounds, how could I be tired?" Du Xixi, who could casually toss a big iron pot around, definitely wouldn’t be tired holding two light children. So she shook her head, not wanting to easily let go of the children she had worked so hard to give birth to.
She looked at Ke Lian and the babies’ eyebrows and eyes, and thought about how her children loved to sleep and were fond of tranquility. She realized her previous worries had finally come true.
Du Xixi pouted, under the curious and puzzled gazes of the three, and said, "I’ve worried before about how cold Ke Lian’s personality is, and if both kids inherited this, what would I do? Now it seems that, although you can’t tell in detail yet, at a glance, Yiyi and Er Er might turn out to be as aloof as Ke Lian."
Ke Lian thought Du Xixi was mad at him for something he’d done wrong, and was completely taken aback when he heard this reason.
Ke Xing and Chen Yin laughed out loud without any hesitation.
