The floodwaters, released by the opening of the floodgates, surged northwards, inundating provinces T and L...
Soon, the water levels gradually receded.
Xiang Jintian's face lit up with a smile; he knew she could do it.
After the floodwaters dispersed, Xiang Jintian landed his plane at the airport closest to Base Li.
With the flood just having passed, there weren't many zombies on the roads; most had been swept north with the deluge.
Xiang Jintian and his entourage arrived smoothly at the Guangming Base.
The gatekeeper, upon opening the gate, was taken aback.
"This... isn't this Commander Xiang?"
Xiang Jintian instructed, "Take them to get settled first. I need to check the control room."
The gatekeeper instinctively replied "yes," then felt something was amiss.
"Commander Xiang, perhaps you should see the person in charge first?"
Xiang Jintian frowned. Seeing A Bai wasn't urgent; he was worried about Xu Qian.
Although she had many assistive items, opening the floodgates was no small matter. If she hadn't insisted on going, he wouldn't have agreed.
"I will see him later."
Xiang Jintian paid no mind to the gatekeeper's words and headed straight for the control room.
Everyone in the control room was startled by Xiang Jintian's sudden intrusion.
The person in charge had been looking for him for a long time, and now he had shown up on his own accord?
"Track Xu Qian's location for me."
Everyone instinctively responded, "Yes."
Xiang Jintian was a commander. He and the former person in charge had founded Guangming Base; in essence, Guangming Base was partly his.
It was only later, when the base had stabilized, that Xiang Jintian went to consolidate other bases, and no longer dealt with base management.
Everyone was very familiar with tracking Xu Qian's beeper, and soon they had it open.
The large screen showed her location in Province T, still moving northwards.
Xiang Jintian's face paled slightly. Had she been washed away by the water?
"Get me a helicopter ready. I'm leaving immediately."
Suddenly, a familiar, clear voice called out.
"Commander Xiang, what's the rush for a helicopter?"
Mei Yuebai strode in, and everyone respectfully lowered their heads.
The young man's silver hair had been replaced by a short, black crew cut. His features were handsome and sharp, though a hint of pallor touched his face.
He wore a fitted suit, tall and upright. His shoulders were slightly narrow, still retaining a youthful aura.
Xiang Jintian was not in the mood for his passive-aggressive conversation.
He had watched Mei Yuebai grow up. Although he appeared normal on the surface, he suffered from certain psychological issues.
Prone to outbursts and anger, he was extreme. If displeased, he didn't care who you were, even the former person in charge would be directly challenged.
Xiang Jintian patiently explained, "A Bai, Qian Qian went to manage the flood release. I'm afraid something might happen to her."
Mei Yuebai's teeth gnashed audibly. His eyes red, he grabbed Xiang Jintian's collar.
"Where is Xu Qian now? Wasn't this your job to operate the sluice gates? Why would you let a girl do it!"
Xiang Jintian found his anger inexplicable. He pulled away his hand.
"I trust her. She'll be fine."
Mei Yuebai let out a cold laugh. "Trusting her means letting her take risks? Isn't her life important?"
Even with Xiang Jintian's good temper, he was starting to get annoyed. His and Xu Qian's affairs were none of Mei Yuebai's business to comment on.
"A Bai, you stay here and handle the disaster relief work. I will bring her back."
Xiang Jintian turned to leave.
"Do you know who Xi Xi Da Ren is?"
Xiang Jintian paused, then turned back.
"Is she the girl you like?"
The Yaori Battle Team, having heard the news, rushed over. They stood to the side, holding their breath, not daring to utter a word.
Mei Yuebai said fiercely, "Xiang Jintian! You really don't know who she is?"
Xiang Jintian truly did not.
"She is Xu Qian! The woman I love."
Xiang Jintian froze, rooted to the spot.
How could this be?
