Chapter 496 Not Planning to Come Back

It's fine if the Bright Base is flooded, as long as it has him and the Sun Chasing Team...

"Xixi, I know the location of the reservoir. I'll fly to the airspace above it, and you watch the plane. I'll go down and open the sluice gates."

Xu Qian shook her head, disagreeing.

"I'll go down, you watch the plane."

Xiang Jintian was stunned and about to retort when he was interrupted.

"I don't know how to fly a cargo plane, and if there's any special situation, it'll be difficult for me to handle. Besides, I'm a good swimmer and nothing will happen."

Xiang Jintian frowned, not agreeing.

He knew she was a good swimmer, but this wasn't the sea below, but floodwaters filled with zombies, garbage, and debris!

The girl's dark eyes stared at him, calm, cold, and resolute.

"Jintian, draw me the specific location. Trust me, nothing will happen."

To prove herself, Xu Qian took out a pager from her spatial storage and put it in her shirt pocket.

"If I disappear, you can use the pager's locator to find me."

Xiang Jintian sighed deeply.

Xu Qian rarely insisted on something, and this was the first time.

The man pondered for a moment and agreed.

She had plenty of props; if she was in danger, she could just hide in her spatial storage.

Xiang Jintian rambled through a bunch of instructions, drew a map, and explained everything meticulously before letting her go.

Xu Qian opened the cabin door. The cold wind blew up strands of her hair and also chilled her heart.

She didn't plan on coming back.

"Xixi, you must be careful, understand?"

Xu Qian's body trembled, and she turned around.

The girl's beautiful dark eyes swept over the man from head to toe, appraising him, before looking away.

"Jintian, after the tide recedes, return directly to the base. You don't have to wait for me."

Xiang Jintian's eyes softened. He squeezed her ball-shaped hairstyle.

"Okay, I'll wait for you back at the base."

Xu Qian's face turned pale, and her fists clenched tightly.

She still couldn't help it. She stepped forward, hugged the man's waist tightly, and buried her head in his broad chest.

The girl's eyes were slightly red. She whispered, "Jintian, goodbye."

Then, she quickly turned and jumped out of the plane, leaving a faint ripple in the water.

Xiang Jintian's heart skipped a beat. He rubbed his chest, wondering why he had such a feeling.

It felt as if he had lost something, something he would never find again.

The water was dark and murky, filled with everything—corpses, zombies, mutated beasts, and trash all jumbled together.

Xu Qian frowned, following the route Xiang Jintian had taught her, and swam towards the bottom of the reservoir.

Soon, she found a white building that looked exactly like the one Xiang Jintian had described.

The sluice gates were located on the topmost floor, in a third-floor office.

She found the entrance and surfaced to take a deep breath before diving back down.

The doors and windows were impossible to open due to the water pressure.

Her spatial storage was also unusable for now, so she had to rely on brute force.

Xu Qian surfaced and dived several times before she managed to break the glass with an iron bar.

Inside the office, two zombies floated motionlessly in the water, their state unknown.

Judging by their work uniforms, they were likely the former reservoir attendants.

Xu Qian didn't want to provoke them. She bypassed them and went directly to the control panel.

Xiang Jintian had said that all she needed to do was press the largest button on the control panel.

Xu Qian narrowed her eyes at the large red button in the center. Without hesitation, she raised her hand and pressed it.

The two zombies, hearing the sound, suddenly opened their eyes. Their orange irises were terrifying in the underwater gloom.

They lunged at Xu Qian.

Xu Qian's expression remained unchanged, and she didn't even fight back as the two zombies plunged towards the seabed.

Tier-three zombies were no threat to her.

Xu Qian quickly surfaced, intending to find a place to rest.

Suddenly, a series of huge waves crashed down.

Xu Qian's vision went black, and she was knocked unconscious by the wave.
