Capítulo 721: Chapter 721: The Secret of a Voice Recorder Pen

“You dare!” The Old Lady hadn’t expected that Bai Yueru would actually dare to confront her face to face, resisting her directly, “I single-handedly fought for the entire Sheng Family’s empire; do you really think you can play the role of the Family Head? What a joke!”

“Mom, whether I can or cannot, it’s not for you to decide, let’s just wait and see,” Bai Yueru poured herself a new cup of tea and set it down on the table beside the Old Lady, “Mom, at different stages of life, one has different missions. What you should do now is to stay in this Old Mansion and enjoy your twilight years in peace. You needn’t worry about the other matters anymore. Besides, even if you wanted to, you couldn’t meddle anymore.”

“Hmph! Bai Yueru, you are just a brainless woman, completely unaware of how high the sky or how deep the earth is!” The Old Lady pointed toward the door, “Do you think just because our Sheng Family dominates the region, you can rest easy? I’m telling you, you’re wrong. There have always been people coveting our Sheng Family in the shadows; you can’t even smell what’s called danger. If you become the Sheng Family Patriarch, sooner or later you will destroy the entire Sheng Family!”

“That’s enough, I know you’ve never thought highly of me, but it doesn’t matter because you never have respected me anyway.” Bai Yueru turned around and left.

“Without my permission, I dare you to take one step away! I’ll die right here and now for you to see!” The Old Lady shouted fiercely at Bai Yueru’s retreating figure.

Bai Yueru didn’t turn back, merely saying to the two maidservants, “Take good care of the Old Madam. If there’s another incident, don’t bother calling me, just call the funeral home directly.”

“You’re rebelling, all of you!” The Old Lady, enraged, picked up her walking stick and started thrashing it around the room!

Bai Yueru walked out, finally releasing the years of pent-up frustration.

She had rushed back, fearing that something sudden might happen to the Old Lady and that her son would blame her upon his return.

But judging from the current situation, the Old Lady had enough strength and vitriol to berate anyone; clearly, there was nothing wrong with her, so there was no need for Bai Yueru to stay and be scolded by the Old Lady.

As for the Old Lady talking about suicide, the likelihood of that was even slimmer.

Bai Yueru somewhat regretted allowing the Old Lady to coerce her into kneeling with a pair of scissors. From now on, the Old Lady shouldn’t even think about using the same methods to make her submit!

After leaving the Old Lady’s room, Bai Yueru finally made up her mind. As the saying goes, ‘a new emperor brings a new court’; it was time for her to inspect and overhaul the Sheng Family’s female-run industries. Anybody closely associated with the Old Lady, previously favored by her, would all be replaced!

At this moment, the Old Mansion’s Bodyguard Captain caught up with Bai Yueru, gasping for breath, “Mrs. Sheng, Nanny Chen has died from poisoning. How should we deal with this?”

“Handle it quietly,” Bai Yueru said. “Old Chen has always been unregistered and never left the Sheng Family by half a step and has no relatives whatsoever. Let’s not let the outside world know about this, to avoid unnecessary trouble for the Sheng Family.”

“Yes, Mrs. Sheng.” The Bodyguard Captain finished and handed over an object that looked like a pen, “Madam, this was found on Nanny Chen.”

Bai Yueru took it and then remembered—it was the recording pen she had given Nanny Chen, hoping to document the unscrupulous things she had done with the Old Lady.

But now, the recording pen was redundant. She pressed the switch, found it was out of battery, and pocketed it, striding away.
