Chapter 1362: Chapter 467: Inciting Rebellion (Part 2)
Upon hearing Donnie’s words, Escovar couldn’t move his feet. Why hadn’t they launched a rebellion during the chaos following Obregon’s assassination? Firstly, they feared Calles’ weaponry, and secondly, they still held onto hope that Calles would recommend one of them as the interim president of Mexico.
Now, Donnie’s words had shattered their hope.
Although the news could not be confirmed, they had their own judgment and believed it was most likely true, because Emilio Hidalgo was Calles’ confidant!
"Gentlemen, look across the sea; that’s Mexico. The stability of Mexico is something you soldiers on the front lines have fought for, paid for with the lives of countless of your comrades. Yet, Calles, simply for the sake of his own power, wishes to monopolize this beautiful country for himself. Are you really willing to let that happen?"
Donnie stood by the railing, pointing towards the city of Acapulco lit up in the distance.
Aguirre and Escovar both fell silent.
After a long while, Escovar, with Aguirre by his side, approached Donnie, and Escovar calmly asked, "Mr. Block, what exactly do you plan to do?"
Donnie smiled and said, "Just three days ago, I sincerely extended an invitation for cooperation to President Calles. In my view, even if President Calles disagreed with my proposal, he could have courteously communicated this result to me. Yet, on that very evening, a terrible explosion occurred outside the hotel where I was staying."
At this point, Donnie’s tone turned somber as he continued, "I cannot comprehend how President Calles, whom I regarded as a friend, could do such a thing to me.
But if we can’t be friends, then we’ll be enemies.
Moreover, you two generals are already enemies with Calles. The enemy of my enemy is my friend. I don’t require you to do anything except to initiate the rebellion you have in mind as soon as possible. The weapons and Elixir are already on board. Now, it depends on your courage!"
Aguirre and Escovar were aware of Donnie’s experience in Mexico City but did not expect his desire for revenge to be so strong. Calles and Monroe merely blew up a car outside the hotel Donnie was staying at, not even Donnie’s car, and yet Donnie wanted to directly propel their rebellion!
This is truly ruthless!
But... they really needed an ally like Donnie!
As competent warlords, they highly valued their personal wealth, so their military equipment wasn’t much to brag about. It was one of their means of making a fortune.
Not wanting to spend their own money but desiring quality weapons, if Donnie was willing to donate to them, that would be fantastic!
"Mr. Block, even if we initiate a coup and succeed, our identity..."
Escovar was somewhat tempted and asked Donnie.
Tang Fei smiled and replied, "Regarding your legal status, I can convince the U.S. Government to recognize your identity at the earliest after your success!"
Armed coups often face the issue of the resulting regime struggling to gain recognition from foreign governments, which is crucial for any nation.
Previously, when Obregon and Calles launched a successful coup, they had promised the United States considerable benefits, which led to the U.S. Government recognizing their government as legitimate.
However, after Obregon, Calles, and others solidified their position in Mexico and gained recognition from more countries, they started to think about ending some collaborations with the United States.
Yet, soon after, a rebellion broke out domestically, and it’s impossible to say the United States wasn’t covertly supporting it.
This church rebellion was merely a way for the White House to intimidate Mexico, and after the Calles government quickly conceded, the U.S. switched to supporting Calles again.
"So, Mr. Block, what do you aim to gain from this?"
Escovar asked Donnie.
He didn’t believe that Donnie supported them solely as a means of enacting revenge on Calles.
"It’s simple. First, I hope that when you two become the President of Mexico, you would grant Surf Hotel the exclusive rights to Mexico’s gambling industry and allow Breton Bank to enter Mexico. Furthermore, you should let Venus Bank take control of Mexico’s Tequila monopoly. Of course, you two would hold shares in these businesses."
Here, Donnie paused for a moment before continuing, "In fact, I’ve already set up two confidential accounts for you at Breton Bank in the United States, and have deposited $1 million in each account!"
Aguirre and Ascowal exchanged glances, both astonished by Donnie’s audacity.
The entire gambling monopoly of Mexico, along with the exclusive rights to its unique Tequila, if agreed upon, would allow Venus Bank to become the largest conglomerate in Mexico in no time.
More importantly, allowing Breton Bank to enter Mexico, they knew even as military leaders that managing the exclusive gambling rights across Mexico would bring a constant stream of funds to Breton Bank, which would help it grow rapidly into a banking giant in Mexico!
"What if we don’t agree to your cooperation, Mr. Block?"
Escovar asked.
Donnie waved his hand, saying, "That’s fine. I believe there are certainly many other generals across Mexico who think like you two and wish to overthrow the Calles government. I can work with them, and even if there are no such generals in all of Mexico, I can inform Calles of your intentions.
As for Calles’ temperament, I’m sure you two understand it better than I do. Maybe at first, to eliminate hidden threats, he may compromise with you, but I think this compromise would be time-limited. When Calles places his own people in your military, perhaps that’s when you lose your value!"
Aguirre and Escovar’s faces changed dramatically.
As Donnie suggested, they knew Calles well and understood the consequences should Calles learn of their intent to rebel.
"We need a legitimate reason!"
By this time, Ascowal was already convinced by Donnie. Unlike politicians, they didn’t weigh various pros and cons or make numerous calculations; they simply made the decision after brief consideration.
"Isn’t the reason already there? The persecution by the Calles government against the Church is a legitimate reason, isn’t it? You might even get support from the Church then!"
Although the Calles government had temporarily reached an understanding with the Church, the animosity still lingered.
In fact, in another timeline, the rebellion by Aguirre, Escovar, and others used this very reason!
"Do we have any other choice?"
Escovar asked Donnie.
Donnie shook his head, saying, "No!"
"Then we hope, Mr. Block, that you will abide by your promises!" Escovar extended his hand to Donnie.
Donnie shook his hand and smiled, saying, "Of course, I swear in the name of God!"
After shaking hands, Donnie said, "On the day you start the rebellion, I will send you a grand gift!"
"A grand gift?" Escovar looked at Donnie in confusion.
Donnie laughingly said, "Since Monroe sent me such a big gift, it wouldn’t be appropriate not to send him some gifts in return!"
