Chapter 1346: Chapter 460: The Ownership of San Francisco Bank
“How’s the investigation I asked you to conduct?”
Cameron Block was fiddling with a small knife in his hand, peeling an apple.
Max, who held the power to decide the fate of many, stood beside Cameron Block, not daring to take a deep breath. As someone who handled the dark side of things for Cameron Block, Max knew Cameron Block’s personality all too well.
This man, who had a good guy image in the minds of the citizens of the City of Los Angeles, was actually someone even crazier than his brother.
Max would rather face Donnie Block than face Cameron Block, but he had no choice.
“I’ve investigated everything thoroughly. Here is all the information on the management of the San Francisco Freedom Bank, including who their mistresses are, all clear as day!”
“Haha!” Cameron Block laughed, cutting the peeled apple in half and handing one half to Max, then said, “Max, you are simply amazing. You handled this so well, how should I reward you?”
Max lowered his head slightly and said respectfully, “It is my honor to serve you, sir!”
“No, no, no!” Cameron Block waved his hand and said, “If you think like that, I would be worried. Someone who wants nothing yet knows all my secrets—do you think I can trust that?”
Max’s expression changed, and he immediately said, “If possible, I hope in the future I can walk under the sun. Of course, the sun above my head has always been Mr. Block, you.”
Cameron Block then showed a smile and said, “That’s more like it. Only when you have desires can I continue to meet your demands, and in doing so, you can focus wholeheartedly on working for me, right?”
“That’s the way it is!” Max nodded.
Cameron Block said, “Donnie mentioned that the Prohibition might not last a few more years. By then, I’ll give you a brewing license, and you’ll be one of the biggest liquor merchants in the United States. That should allow you to walk openly in the sunlight, right?”
Max looked pleasantly surprised, bowing even lower: “Thank you, sir!”
“Very well, you don’t need me to explain further how we proceed next, right?”
Cameron Block asked, smiling while eating the apple.
“No need, I know what to do. Within a week, I guarantee that you will have all the scandals of the San Francisco Freedom Bank’s management!”
Max said.
“Okay!” Cameron Block laughed, “Then I await your good news!”
Max left.
Then from a secret room in Cameron Block’s study, a white male of a similar age stepped out.
“Do you trust this Max?”
The man sat straight on the sofa and crossed his legs.
“Of course, everything he has now was given by Donnie. I see no reason not to trust him!”
Cameron Block said easily.
“But you should understand that such a person might become your Achilles’ heel in the future. He knows too much about you!” the man continued.
Cameron Block looked at the other with a smile, “But you also know everything about me. Are you implying I shouldn’t trust you either?”
The man was momentarily at a loss for how to respond to Cameron Block.
Cameron Block smiled and said, “Don’t worry. No matter what position I hold in the future, I’ll always need people to handle certain things I’m not suitable for directly!”
Saying this, Cameron Block got up, went to the liquor cabinet, poured two glasses of whiskey, and handed one to the man, then said with a smile, “I understand what you mean, but think about it—Max knows my secrets, and you know my secrets. If in the future I become a big shot in the United States, and to ensure my secrets, I get rid of Max, what about you?
How can you assure me that I won’t dispose of you to protect my reputation?
You wouldn’t want me to dispose of you too, would you?”
The man’s body shivered slightly; he certainly didn’t want such an outcome for himself.
“I understand, I won’t say such things again in the future!”
“No, no, no!” Cameron Block waved his hand and said, “Why wouldn’t you speak? You are the one overseeing Max for me. If you don’t speak, are you planning to conspire with Max to deceive me?”
The man…
“Say what you need to say; I will judge those matters myself. I need to hear them, and those matters I don’t need to hear!” Cameron Block said softly.
“I understand!”
“All right, go ahead with your work. Although I trust Max, we need to make thorough preparations, in case any issues arise on his end, you can cover up his loopholes!”
“Understood!”
After the man left, Cameron Block sat on the sofa and closed his eyes slightly.
At that moment, the door to his study opened again, and Cameron Block smelled a familiar fragrance—it was Emma Harrison who had arrived.
Emma Harrison went behind Cameron Block and gently massaged his temples.
“Why can Donnie always find people he can trust, while I have to guard against everyone around me?”
Cameron Block said softly.
“That’s because you and Mr. Block are on different paths!” Emma Harrison said with a smile.
Cameron Block said helplessly, “By then, Donnie will surely make fun of me. To kill two people, I have to ask him to send people from Atlantic City; it’s really frustrating to think about!”
Emma Harrison laughed and said, “Actually, you can also think this way—no matter what you do, Mr. Block is your strongest backer. Doesn’t it feel great?”
Cameron Block nodded and said, “When you put it that way, I’m not that unhappy anymore!”
“I’ve heard Max is someone Mr. Block left for you to use. Will Mr. Block…”
“As you said, Max is someone Donnie left for me. When I have no use for him, there’s naturally no need to keep him around!”
