Chapter 262: 262 a set of card deck_1
This person, Xing Wu, claimed to know nothing. The name itself didn’t seem to hold any particular meaning.
Currently, Zero Egg was quite compliant. The moment the other party mentioned the name, Zero Egg searched its own System’s internal data.
It said, "I found no data on this Xing Wu."
Wen Jiang asked, "Is it possible that your level isn’t high enough? What can you know at the moment?"
Zero Egg replied, "...Those words hurt the System. Don’t ever repeat them. Not a single word was to my liking."
Suddenly, Xing Wu drifted towards the window and looked at the scenery of Ceylon City outside. Wen Jiang could see his Adam’s apple move as he said, "I haven’t seen scenery like this in a long time."
Under normal circumstances, one would unconsciously ask why. You’ve just woken up, or rather, you don’t remember anything from before?
But Wen Jiang didn’t ask. The atmosphere fell into a bizarre silence until Xing Wu couldn’t stand it anymore and turned his head. "Aren’t you going to ask me why?" he asked.
Wen Jiang replied, "From the moment you answered that you don’t remember, I knew it was pointless to ask." What a waste of breath.
Xing Wu said, "..."
He looked up. His face was genuinely as flawless as jade, and perhaps due to his traits, there was always a hint of demonic charm to his features. He looked at Wen Jiang’s calm face and lifted the corners of his lips slightly. "Indeed," he said.
Wen Jiang flipped through the data on Xing Wu. Apart from the name he had given himself, the data still consisted of just a simple page introducing an SSR Card, without even his name, and no abilities listed at all.
This SSR Card seemed to exist just for show. But the fact that he could have his own consciousness proved that he was indeed different from other manufactured cards.
Could it be a card produced by a high-ranking System?
Indestructible, with the ability to pry into thoughts. This is an uncomfortably peculiar existence.
Wen Jiang could only try to convince herself to ignore him. She decided to continue making her own cards. One Mechanical Angel wasn’t the end. Now that she had tangled with the Mech King, she might as well make a whole deck to throw in his face.
Designing the abilities of a B-Rank card required time. After Wen Jiang immersed herself back in the Card Making Pool, Xing Wu took a deep look at her. Then, he flew straight out of the window.
His body was real, but it seemed the people of Ceylon City couldn’t see him.
After he left, Wen Jiang opened her eyes.
He’s different from the System. A being born from the System, yet he can do things the System can’t. He can leave my area.
With a light sneer, Wen Jiang closed her eyes and continued making new cards.
Inside the Underground Arena, Sa Ang spat out a mouthful of blood.
The Card Spirit of the Mechanical Angel was on the verge of shattering, and the sweat on Sa Ang’s forehead almost blurred his vision.
He wasn’t wrong in his guess. The Mech King indeed wanted to teach him a lesson during the match.
So, against the rules, he was scheduled for two matches in one day. This was not allowed.
But because of the rare stakes in this match, many wished for him to compete. Despite the risk of being discovered by the Blood Emperor, the Arena still let Sa Ang proceed to the second fight.
Fortunately, he won.
This time, however, it was unclear how many injections would be needed to make up for his losses, nor whether Helena could accept it.
HUFF...
Sa Ang lay on the ground, gasping heavily.
In the stands, the gamblers were screaming for him like mad.
Winning two fights in one day, he had created an impossible miracle.
Below the stands, a woman watched Sa Ang with a grim expression. Sa Ang recognized her as one of the Mech King’s subordinates; she was a rank above Plague and one of the Mech King’s confidants.
With Sa Ang winning two fights, he was about to become the Arena’s rising star. He wasn’t sponsored by the Mech King; instead, he would be a thorn in his side.
A third fight was impossible to arrange now. The woman left with a cold expression, while Sa Ang, propping himself up from the ground, found his forearms trembling continuously. He no longer had the strength to rise.
He had held on with sheer willpower until now. Since being saved by Helena, he had only one goal.
He wanted to be Helena’s sharpest blade. He needed to perform even better and stay in Helena’s favor so that his brother could continue receiving steady treatment.
Previously, he saw no hope, fighting for his brother on instinct without knowing what his own future would hold. At least now, he saw a direction.
Helena will become an excellent Card Maker, and I will be her perfect test subject.
"You’ve got guts."
His hearing was also affected. He heard a muffled voice. Raising his head, he saw Robbie’s indifferent and fierce face. Robbie said, "For the second fight, it was only a 100,000 prize. Not worth risking your life."
Robbie also knew about the struggle between the Mech King and Helena. He had looked down on Sa Ang before but still offered a word of advice now. "She can’t possibly defeat the Mech King," he said. "You can stand on your own strength now, Sa Ang. If you were to switch to the Mech King’s side, he would accept you."
Sa Ang grinned, bloodstaining his teeth. "If I came over, what about you?" he asked.
Robbie’s face suddenly stiffened. If a Spirit Card Master sponsors different individuals, there will inevitably be rivalry between them for the Card Maker’s powerful new cards. Only the strongest will get them.
"Besides, it’s not over yet," Sa Ang said.
Sa Ang, having rested enough, found the strength to rise. He swayed as he left, leaving Robbie behind clenching his fist.
Because of Sa Ang’s outstanding performance, sales of the Mechanical Angel card surged once again. Orders from all over the world reached Ceylon City. Becoming famous from a single card was rare.
However, Wen Jiang hadn’t yet performed well enough to alarm the higher-ups. If Helena could produce a few more cards as outstanding as Mechanical Angel, then perhaps... Karin mused.
Speak of the devil. Just as Karin was thinking about it, Wen Jiang arrived.
Seeing Wen Jiang, Karin’s face blossomed into a pleased smile. Anyone who can make me money is a cash cow, worth treating warmly.
She stepped forward and said, "Your timing is perfect. Sa Ang’s performance at the Underground Arena today was unexpected. That Mechanical Angel card helped him make it to the second round, so today’s sales of Mechanical Angel boomed again. Now many people want to know more about you and the source of your confidence. Some have even asked if you have any other cards."
"The second round?" Wen Jiang asked.
Wen Jiang was, in fact, already aware of the situation but now merely sneered coldly. "I remember the Underground Arena’s rules: a maximum of one fight every two days. Two fights in one day? Is someone targeting Sa Ang?"
Karin, of course, knew what was going on. She raised an eyebrow, offered a brief explanation, and then changed the subject. "Sa Ang himself agreed to the 100,000 price for the second fight. You came to see me; is there something you need?"
