Chapter 836: Little Flower (4)
ALL NOVELS' LIST | Chapter List: The Last Commander of the Red Alert XXX-----XXX-----XXX-----XXX Yun Ru found it quite strange that it seem
Yun Ru found it quite strange that it seemed like there were surveillance systems everywhere on this planet. Otherwise, why would a casual remark trigger such violent reactions from the surrounding life forms, leading to the immediate elimination of the speaker?
Even more peculiar was the fact that both humans and animals, after killing the speaker, seemed to forget their previous actions. The bloodstains left behind would also vanish on their own, making these occurrences inexplicable.
"I wonder if Chief Yun has noticed something. Initially, when these people talked about the outside world, it only raised some minor attention. It was as they continued talking that it incited the surrounding violence. In other words, it seems to require a certain process," Li Tong remarked.
Yun Ru thought carefully and realized that Li Tong was right. This provided some room for maneuver.
As they spoke, everyone on the planet had died. These people had signed an agreement that promised preferential treatment from the Empire to their families upon their deaths.
"Alright, let's move."
Two spaceships approached the planet, gliding silently through its atmosphere, beginning their covert infiltration.
Li Tong chose a remote location with few inhabitants: the desert. He believed that he could ensure his safety here to the greatest extent. On the other hand, Yun Ru took a different approach, arriving near a mountain village. She planned to begin her exploration from smaller, localized areas and gradually learn about the planet's situation.
The spaceships landed smoothly, attracting no attention. This was a remote mountainous area where ordinary people wouldn't venture.
Yun Ru stepped out of the spaceship, taking in the planet's fresh, unpolluted air. She could feel that she had lost her Large Galaxy-level strength, and her physical attributes had become slightly superior to those of an ordinary person, similar to the elite soldiers of this world.
"It's truly fascinating. What kind of power is this?" Yun Ru's eyes were filled with a thirst for knowledge.
She took out various instruments and began her research in this new environment. Of course, she didn't forget to instruct Alice to gather all the information available on this planet.
As an artificial intelligence, Alice was a product of science, which meant she wasn't bound by restrictions here. She moved effortlessly and comfortably through this environment.
For three consecutive days, Yun Ru didn't leave the spaceship, and the Red Alert soldiers followed suit.
Three days later, Yun Ru finally stepped out of the spaceship.
"Alice, what's the current situation on this planet?"
"Yun Ru, this planet is a highly centralized world, with all power concentrated in an organization called the Star Exploration Hall. All technological products originate from this organization. The technology in this world is a result of the continuous research by the Star Exploration Hall. However..."
Alice paused for a moment. "There's something strange about the Star Exploration Hall. Its mission is to explore the countless stars in the universe and seek the truth of the cosmos. I just found out that they have the capability to develop spaceships, yet they haven't used them to explore planets beyond their own."
Hearing this, Yun Ru was puzzled. What could be the reason?
Human curiosity about the universe was entirely natural. Without the drive to explore the unknown, humanity would never have progressed to its current state.
Since they have the capability to explore beyond the planet, why wouldn't they go?
Unless... they know they can't!
Vaguely, Yun Ru felt like she might be getting closer to the truth of this world, with its peculiarities becoming increasingly apparent to her.
"It appears that the Star Exploration Hall is a significant point of interest. What else is there?" Yun Ru inquired.
"Well, Yun Ru, there's something else. About 5 kilometers from our location, there's a young girl moving in this direction. Would you like to go and take a look?" Alice suggested.
Yun Ru's gaze sharpened. Regardless of who it was, if they posed a real threat to their safety, even if it was a young girl, Yun Ru wouldn't hesitate to act.
Instead of taking immediate action, she sent a Red Alert soldier to investigate the situation and find out who this young girl was.
...
Little Flower wiped the sweat from her forehead, looking at the empty bamboo basket on her back. She clenched her teeth and continued to venture deeper into the mountains.
"As long as I can gather Silver Thread Grass and sell it, I can help my brother's legs recover."
This thought kept her going, for without it, it would be difficult for a girl of merely fourteen or fifteen to conquer these treacherous mountains.
She struggled along the rugged mountain path, with branches and twigs scratching her in many places. Her once delicate face was now smeared with dirt and sweat from wiping her brow.
As she walked, she suddenly stopped in her tracks. Not far from her, a snake had appeared!
Little Flower knew that most snakes in the mountains were venomous, and the one before her had multiple colors, indicating it was among the deadliest. Once bitten, she wouldn't survive for long.
Little Flower remained still, recalling what the village's Old Man had told her: as long as you don't move, snakes won't bite.
But as the venomous snake drew closer, she couldn't bear it any longer and started running.
In an instant, the snake lunged at her, but before it could reach her, a dagger flew through the air, impaling the snake and pinning it to a tree.
Little Flower, her face pale with fear, realized she had narrowly escaped being bitten.
She looked towards the direction from which the dagger had come and saw an adult man dressed in green clothing emerging from the bushes. He grabbed the snake's head, retrieved the dagger, and then turned his attention to her.
"This is a restricted military area. Unauthorized individuals are not allowed to enter," he said.
Little Flower, startled, knew that the military had strict rules. A single misstep could cost her her life.
"I...I'm sorry, I didn't know this was a restricted military area. I'll leave immediately," she stammered.
Just as she was about to leave, a Red Alert soldier stopped her. "Our commander wants to see you. Come with me."
With no other choice, Little Flower followed the soldier until they reached a secluded location, where there was a makeshift building.
"Don't be nervous. Have a seat," Yun Ru said as she smiled warmly.
Little Flower had expected to encounter a stern and serious adult, but to her surprise, the commander turned out to be a young girl who appeared only a bit older than herself. This eased her guard and nervousness.
"What's your name, and how did you end up here?" Yun Ru asked with a friendly tone.
Little Flower was an honest girl with no hidden agenda, so she candidly shared her story.
After she finished, she anxiously looked at Yun Ru and asked, "I've told you everything, can I go home now?"
