Chapter 1828: Chapter 1821: Horror Story
Before he finished speaking, Ah Fu covered his mouth, while Huang Quanjiu, who was behind him, retreated with a look of disgust, putting some distance between them.
Tang Ye couldn’t help but hold his forehead.
"Ma De, the character setting is crumbling!"
Glancing from the corner of his eye, Tang Ye noticed Su Sigui looking at Ah Fu with a speechless expression, making Tang Ye aware that Su Sigui now understood exactly what kind of zombie Ah Fu was.
He originally thought that bringing such a group of guys would make them appear so awesome and cool in others’ eyes!
In the end, they only managed to do embarrassing things.
At this moment, Su Sigui shifted her gaze over, nodded at Tang Ye, and then walked into the ruins on her own. Tang Ye immediately understood and followed her.
"Uh, my people are like this, they don’t usually behave this way, so don’t take it too seriously."
"It’s fine."
Once they reached a secluded area, Su Sigui stopped and looked around, finally fixing her gaze on Tang Ye. She said seriously:
"Actually, I don’t doubt you guys; it’s just that I need your help with something."
"That’s no problem, tell me."
"I know there are some zombies in Cloud Gorge Base, but I’m having a hard time tracking their movements. I need your people to help me find them."
"The zombies that destroyed the laboratory last night? That might take some time, but I can help with that." Tang Ye did not refuse Su Sigui’s request, and after agreeing, he asked: "Was the destroyed place the laboratory responsible for one of the projects of the Spirit Rain Plan?"
"Yes."
"Shouldn’t such a place be very secretive? How did those zombies know about it?"
"I don’t know..." Su Sigui shook her head with a frown, "Someone is watching me. They already know the Spirit Rain Plan isn’t beneficial for them. They want to abort the plan before it completely succeeds. The laboratory was completely destroyed, and nobody inside survived. All the data was destroyed."
"Is the impact significant?"
"Neither too big nor too small, doesn’t matter. I already know the outcome. I’m just curious about how the zombies that attacked the laboratory knew the exact location, so I need your help. But it did give me a heads-up to accelerate the progress. During this time, I’ll be transferring the personnel and equipment responsible for the main project parts to other places. Moreover, the second clinical trial might be postponed for a while. If you’re busy, you can head back to the Royal Court first; I’ll inform you then."
"It’s fine, getting familiar won’t hurt after being in the Royal Court for so long, especially since you’re the main force when the other Zombie Kings enter China."
"True, as long as you’re happy." Su Sigui nodded, while Tang Ye became contemplative.
He was wondering if there was another organization in the Cloud Gorge Base, besides the ones he brought from the Royal Court, primarily composed of high-level zombies?
The likelihood was high; as long as those high-level zombies were willing to learn, integrating into human society wouldn’t be too hard, and forming an organization would naturally follow.
Shaking his head, Tang Ye decided not to dwell on it, since, even if there was an organization formed by high-level zombies in the Cloud Gorge Base, without a Zombie King level being present, no matter how many Level 8 zombies there were, they’d be just insignificant fish before him!
Moreover, his senses told him that the number of other high-level zombies in the Cloud Gorge Base wasn’t many, making them easy to find.
Suddenly, Tang Ye thought of another Zombie King, Ryle, who was from North America. No one has known of Ryle’s whereabouts. Who knows if they might be in the Cloud Gorge Base right now?
Just after thinking about this possibility, Tang Ye’s eyes turned cold, hastily withdrawing his perception. Between Zombie Kings, they could sense each other’s perception lines. If that guy really were in the Cloud Gorge Base, wouldn’t he have exposed himself by doing so?
"What’s wrong with you?" Though Tang Ye’s action was tough to spot, Su Sigui, who was watching him, noticed the subtle change in his demeanor and couldn’t help but feel puzzled.
"Nothing." Tang Ye smiled, "Just remembered a scary story."
"What kind of story?" Su Sigui rarely became curious.
"Is it possible that the Radiation Zombie King is inside the Cloud Gorge Base, perhaps watching us from somewhere?" This brief sentence gave Tang Ye himself goosebumps as he spoke, as he now started to detest such zombies who could disguise themselves as humans to infiltrate human society.
The horror story seemed to succeed as, right after speaking, he saw Su Sigui’s fingers subconsciously tightened, as she looked toward other buildings in the distance; Tang Ye glanced as well but noticed no eyes on them.
"Okay, it’s just a story. I should go now, still have to help you catch those wild zombies." Tang Ye quickly broke the heavy atmosphere and, upon finishing speaking, turned to leave, but Su Sigui called out, stopping him.
"Wait a moment, I haven’t said everything yet."
"What else is there?" Tang Ye turned around to see her hugging her knees, curling up, looking at the broken, mottled wall ahead.
In that moment, she resembled a girl he once saw on the roadside before the Apocalypse—an astonishing sight leaving an everlasting impression.
She seemed so out of place with her surroundings.
"We’re on the same boat, right?" After a brief silence, Su Sigui asked.
Tang Ye pondered for a moment, then nodded, saying, "I suppose so."
Su Sigui turned her head to look at him, lightly tapping her slender fingers on her knees. After a while, her face broke into a smile.
"Then I shouldn’t hide anything from you."
"Hmm?"
"Something potentially detrimental to both of us. If, after hearing it, you feel uneasy, you can jump ship—it’s not too late for you yet."
"You should still tell me." Tang Ye shook his head and smiled, having a fair guess of what it was.
"Alright, here’s the thing, the Spirit Rain Plan isn’t only targeting zombies, but also the new kind of humans. But whether new humans or zombies, they include you and me, along with your subordinates! Except ordinary people."
"Last night, the laboratory below broke down a Level 8 zombie, and traces of it remain after its death. You could go take a look; eventually, we’ll become like it, but not necessarily. What if I fail?"
"Oh, it’s this matter. It doesn’t matter, though I slightly resist what you mentioned, but before the Four Great Zombie Kings invade the Chinese Continent, you wouldn’t possibly annihilate us first, right?"
"Hmm?"
"Let’s focus on surviving first." Waving his hand away, Tang Ye departed, leaving Su Sigui alone. She wanted to call after him but eventually closed her mouth, contemplating something.
Tang Ye took the personnel from the Royal Court away from the crowd but didn’t immediately return to the station; instead, he stopped at the mouth of a secluded, dilapidated street.
"Boss, what did Su Sigui talk about with you?"
"Nothing much." Tang Ye shook his head, casting his gaze toward Abeng.
Tang Ye and his group had been at the Cloud Gorge Base for nearly a week, and Yi Huangcheng and Abeng had only arrived yesterday.
"Abeng, how’s the Royal Court now?"
"No abnormalities, as per your orders, the new humans on our side are now gathering here at the Cloud Gorge Base. Sister Gong Xiao went out with other brothers as planned to expand our own bell group... Though, it’s noteworthy that there’ve been reports of radiation mutants in Ha Zhen’s region, those mutants seem to be assimilating other zombies just like us..."
