Chapter 1139: Chapter 1139: Could Die at Any Moment (10)
Jiaojiao pouted. It wasn’t that she liked studying, she just didn’t feel like her injury was that serious. Taking so much time off for such a small injury made her seem too fragile, almost useless. She didn’t like that feeling.
But since she had already taken the leave, there was no choice but to go along with it.
She touched her stomach, feeling a bit hungry. With Xiu Xi’s support, she got out of bed, looked around as soon as she stepped out of the room, and asked, “Where’s Uncle and them?”
“They went to school,” said Xiu Xi. Three grown men and a teenager had just decided on something this morning, and by the afternoon they had acted on it.
“…” Jiaojiao.
She didn’t need to ask to guess what they were up to.
When Jiaojiao went downstairs, the Ruanlin Family wasn’t home. They’ve been busy moving things to the school housing these past few days. Today, luckily, three men helped out, so they took three truckloads to the school. The car Shu Lang drove was borrowed from the Lu Family next door, and Zhao Li went along to help too.
The big villa was down to two people. Xiu Xi was going to the kitchen to get her food and wanted to take her along.
Jiaojiao remembered what she wanted to ask in the morning and pursed her lips.
After following Xiu Xi to the kitchen to bring out the meals, and sitting together in the dining room, Jiaojiao didn’t rush to eat but asked, “Brother Xiu, you mentioned earlier you had something to tell me, can you say it now?”
Xiu Xi glanced at the food in front of her, “Eat your meal first.”
Jiaojiao looked at him, but eventually picked up her chopsticks and started eating.
She was really hungry, but suddenly lost her appetite for some reason. Still, she pushed herself to eat most of it. The Ruan Family were all tall, and she was determined to become a wealthy, beautiful woman, so she couldn’t afford to stunt her growth and end up short.
After putting down her bowl and chopsticks, Jiaojiao looked at Xiu Xi, blinked her eyes, indicating he could start talking.
Jiaojiao had sensed something unusual with her family these past two days, had all kinds of crazy thoughts, and even foolishly wondered if she would end up like some drama heroine from a certain country, suffering from an incurable disease.
But she never expected her situation to be like this.
From the moment Xiu Xi finished speaking, Jiaojiao felt as if the world had fallen silent, her ears automatically blocking out all sound.
She saw Xiu Xi’s lips moving, but gradually couldn’t hear a thing, replaced by the loud thumping of her heart, so loud it almost shattered her eardrums.
She licked her dry lips, unable to hear what Xiu Xi was saying now, she calmly summed up everything she had just heard, “So… I could just suddenly die any second… right?”
Other leading ladies have an illness with a certain time left, but for her… she didn’t even have any breathing room; she could die at any moment.
“Jiaojiao,” Xiu Xi looked at her worryingly.
He thought she would be scared or cry, since she had been delicate from a young age. He had imagined many possible reactions she might have, but not this one.
So calm that it was frightening, as if she didn’t care about her own life or death.
He would rather she screamed or cried than see her this composed. It made him uneasy, his heart aching.
“Brother Xiu, you haven’t answered me, have you? I could die any moment, right?” Jiaojiao asked again, insisting on a definite answer from Xiu Xi.
