Chapter 453: Chapter 453 Reunion
Yang Peimin took some time out to help Yang Peiying pack up her things for the trip home. She had already purchased a train ticket and called to let them know. The joy of going home always felt good, making Yang Peiying’s usual tone sound much louder than usual.
She had been shopping continuously for a few days, bringing home a plethora of items.
Actually, Yang Peiying herself hadn’t bought much; most of the purchases were Yang Peimin’s.
Since she was planning to mail some things back and show her filial respect by sending gifts, if she couldn’t return in person, she figured she might as well make the gifts a bit more substantial.
Thinking that Shen Erniu and his daughter would be coming over in a few days, she also stocked up on some daily necessities for them.
Currently, Chen Guizhi and Shen Yixiang mother and daughter had no time to think about these matters, as they were caught up in a dispute with the Lu family.
After Yang Peiying finished her preparations, Shen Erniu sent a telegram saying he was ready to come by car.
Yang Peimin then went back and informed Chen Guizhi and the others about it.
She had been busy with factory work and her sister’s issues and only then found out that Shen Yixiang had broken off her relationship with Lu Haijun.
Yang Peimin was truly astonished.
By then, the neighbors all knew about it, some had even witnessed the dramatic scene, and the rumors were flying.
Shen Yixiang had decidedly changed the neighbors’ impression of her, nearly scratching Lu Haijun’s face off.
Then she ran back home crying.
Chen Guizhi sat in the living room, sighing deeply because Shen Yixiang had shut herself in her room, refusing to come out.
Upon seeing Yang Peimin’s return, Chen Guizhi seemed to find her backbone and pulled her aside to discuss Shen Yixiang’s situation, urging her to try and talk to her.
Yang Peimin shook her head, “Mom, let Yixiang have some space to calm down. When she’s ready, she’ll come out and talk.” The young lady was showing her strength. Earlier academic setbacks hadn’t held her back for long, so the family should give her confidence.
Hearing this, Chen Guizhi sighed again and began talking about the Lu family’s issues.
Yang Peimin really didn’t want to dwell on this topic. After all, the Lu family’s issues had been the same for a long time, only lacking a resolution before. Now, Shen Yixiang had finally put an end to it. The Lu family could be considered a closed chapter. What she needed to do now was lock the door tightly to prevent the Lu family from finding any opportunity to reconnect.
When Shen Yiguang returned, Yang Peimin mentioned it to him, and he went out to buy a guard dog right after dinner, telling the family, “Now we can rest a bit easier. Since it’s like this, let’s not concern ourselves with the Lu family anymore. If they have the audacity to show up again, our family won’t hold back.”
Knowing that Shen Erniu was coming, Shen Yiguang was quite pleased and said he needed to hurry to pick him up from the train station.
Yang Peimin didn’t overexert herself, as she was pregnant and train stations were crowded, making it difficult for her to maneuver.
Only then did Chen Guizhi manage a smile, “I’ve also prepared two packages of herbal medicine for your father; the two days of travel must have been exhausting.”
Seeing her like this, Yang Peimin quickly brought over her son, Lele, and got busy.
Little Lele was now able to roll over by himself; he could have a great time on his small bed flipping from front to back and back to front. He would laugh on his own, and if someone played with him, that would be even better—he would burst into hearty laughter.
Yang Peimin was utterly charmed by him.
Shen Yiguang also ran over.
Yang Peimin glanced sideways at him and noticed that he would only come over when Lele was having fun, and disappear when the crying started.
Shen Yiguang took a small fabric doll and teased it over Lele’s head, urging him to reach for it. Lele, the little fellow, found everything fresh and especially liked bright colors. The little fabric doll was a red carp made by Yang Peimin herself. Lele really loved it and reached out wanting to snatch it from his dad’s hand every time. His dad, that sly guy, always pulled it away just as he was about to grab it, never letting him succeed. Lele didn’t realize he was being played with, instead, he enjoyed it immensely, and after about twenty or thirty times, Yang Peimin saw that her son still hadn’t gotten it, her arm getting sore, and couldn’t help but push Shen Yiguang, saying angrily, “Just give it to him already!”
Shen Yiguang turned his head to look at her and touched his nose, “Good thing our son takes after me, he isn’t even rushed. You’re just impatient. But since you said it, let’s give it to him.”
Yang Peimin punched him lightly.
Shen Yiguang took the opportunity to grab her hand, “Let’s go out for a walk.”
“Your son is still here.”
“Should we bring him?”
“What else?”
Compared to playing by himself, Lele seemed happier to go out for some fresh air, flapping about in Shen Yiguang’s arms.
Yang Peimin felt that in another two months, she might not be able to carry him anymore.
They didn’t really walk long because it got dark quite quickly; they just wandered around the yard a couple of times, but Lele was very happy, and so was Yang Peimin.
“Is there anything planned for the New Year in your military unit?” It was her first time spending the New Year here, but these soldiers and Military Wives must have some activities.
“Yes, there are shows to watch, everyone can perform at will, both formal and informal, and on New Year’s Eve, the cafeteria organizes everyone to eat together, even adding special dishes.”
“Do I need to go back then?”
“Yes, the Military Wives can take this chance to gather too.”
Yang Peimin nodded. She hadn’t returned to the military base in several months, always busy and with the child, since Chen Guizhi came over she had been staying here.
Shen Erniu arrived on the third day; Shen Yiguang had come back two hours early and went to the train station around four in the afternoon to pick him up, luckily managing to bring him back by seven.
Shen Erniu and Shen Yiyue brought a lot of things, fortunately, Shen Yiguang had driven over, and his car trunk was almost half full.
Yang Peiying had left, and the dinner was arranged by Yang Peimin, Shen Yixiang, and Chen Guizhi; however, Yang Peimin was just there to make up the number, chatting away. She watched Lele from the side, and also because this pregnancy made her sensitive to the smell of cooking oil. Staying long in the kitchen would make her excessively nauseous.
Thinking they must be weary from their travels, she had heated plenty of water. Chen Guizhi didn’t know how many times she looked towards the door; she had prepared their clothes and towels, waiting for them to return and immediately ushering them to bathe, as otherwise, they couldn’t hold her precious grandson.
Chen Guizhi’s calculations were accurate; barely had they arrived when they rushed to Lele. Chen Guizhi firmly stopped them, insisting Shen Erniu bathe first, “Who knows how many germs from others are on you, with all the crowding. Go wash up quickly, then you can hold Lele.”
Shen Erniu laughed and nodded, a little early or late didn’t matter.
Once they were done, it was time for dinner.
Shen Erniu first went to the small bed by the dining table to look over Lele.
