Chapter 736: Chapter 490: Picking Someone Up (Two-in-One Chapter)
On the green-skinned train, Zhao Yulan, Lin Baohe, and Luo Gangshun were sitting facing Fat Auntie, feeling the speed of the train slow down, they all became a bit excited.
Luo Gangshun unconsciously straightened his clothes, then reached out to smooth his hair. Seeing this, Fat Auntie hurriedly tugged at her clothes and tidied her hair as well.
“Look at the two of you; it’s not like you’re going to a matchmaking session…” Though she said this, Zhao Yulan also started to primp, following their lead. Lin Baohe had his hair cut very short, so he didn’t need to straighten it, and he just quietly tugged at his clothes, noticing a bit of dirt on his green sneakers, he bent down to pat it off with his hand.
Zhao Yulan pushed her husband with a laugh, “Giving Xia Zheng face is a good thing, what’s there to be embarrassed about?”
“Heh heh…” Lin Baohe touched his head, “I’m just afraid you’ll say I’m vain.”
“Hahaha, Uncle Lin you’re really funny, obviously feeling shy and yet looking for an excuse.” The girl sitting across the aisle shook with laughter, while an old lady next to her slapped her palm, then looked apologetically at Lin Baohe and the others, “Zhenzhen, this child, has been spoiled by me, please don’t mind her.”
Zhao Yulan waved it off with a smile, “It’s fine, he’s just making excuses for himself, Miss Zhenzhen isn’t wronging him at all.”
“This child is really thoughtless.” The old lady couldn’t help but poke the girl’s head with her finger, “You’re already eighteen, you’re really going to be the death of me.”
The girl pouted unhappily, “Grandma, I’m saying this because I like Uncle Lin, if I didn’t like him, I wouldn’t bother.” As she said this, she also stealthily glanced at the robust man sitting diagonally opposite, his eyes fixed outside unblinkingly.
Zhao Yulan, noticing the girl’s glance, smiled knowingly. The man sitting by the window was Luan Dajiang. If it weren’t for bringing him along, they would have come much earlier.
Zhou Mikang had taken care of the army enlistment notification, and Zhao Yulan had already informed Lin Baojuan, telling her that her son-in-law had agreed and could report for duty anytime within a year.
Dajiang himself wanted to join the army but was worried about his parents, especially since Lin Baojuan was still walking with a limp and couldn’t handle heavy work. He was concerned that his grandmother wouldn’t treat his mother well after his departure.
It was Xiaoxiang who volunteered to say she would take good care of mother and would not marry within two years, convincing Dajiang to set his mind at ease and go with his parents to visit his Uncle and Aunt.
Although everyone already knew that Lin Baohe was not the biological son of the Lin Family’s old couple, Dajiang and Xiaoxiang still addressed them as before, and the relationship between the two families remained as close as ever.
Of course, there were some changes; Lin Baojuan and Luan Qingshu used to be more casual with them, but now they inevitably felt a bit constrained.
Although they didn’t understand the exact status of the Lin Family of the Capital, the grandeur of the recent grave relocation made them realize that even though Lin Baohe and Zhao Yulan treated them the same as before, they couldn’t afford to be too thoughtless.
Zhao Yulan originally wanted to send a telegram to Chuxia, but doing so would have delayed their trip by several more days. Lin Baojuan and Luan Qingshu, knowing that the couple were concerned about Chuxia, suggested that Luan Dajiang accompany them to City A. If he could enlist now, he would stay; if not, he would return with Luo Gangshun and Fat Auntie.
After thinking it over, it seemed reasonable, so Zhao Yulan and Lin Baohe asked them to pack up quickly and set off together. However, just before they were about to leave, Old Lady Luan started having issues.
Old Lady Luan claimed that she had a bad dream in which her eldest grandson was shot and his head was covered in blood. Thus, she refused to let her grandson go off to his death.
It took a lot of persuasion, and even the village secretary was brought in to calm Old Lady Luan down. After all the fuss, there was a delay of three days, so in total, they were three days late from the previously planned arrival in City A.
“I wonder if Chuxia received the telegram.” Zhao Yulan sighed with concern, “Baohe and I don’t know the way; I’m afraid we might end up leading everyone into a millet field.”
Millet is sorghum; when it’s growing in fields, one can hardly find their way through it.
Luan Dajiang, who had been staring outside the whole time, turned around, looking ashamed, “Uncle, Aunt, it’s my fault. Chuxia might be frantic by now.”
“Alright, stop shouldering all the blame.” Zhao Yulan chided him with a laugh, then teased, “When we get off the train, you’re going to carry our luggage, aren’t you? Don’t tell me you’re thinking about the work and regretting it now.”
