Chapter 3500: Unwilling to Retreat

Chapter 3500: Unwilling to Retreat

The Dragon Emperor snarled as he unleashed a powerful swing at Rui, threatening to cleave Rui into shreds, only to find Rui effortlessly evading it at the very final moment that was possible, giving him absolutely no chance to exploit any vulnerabilities.

Lord Shenlong’s reptilian eyes sharpened as she unleashed several more powerful claw swipes, each sending its own tsunamis around the world from the depths of the Great Void Ocean. And yet none of them could have possibly reached Rui despite the immense power that the Dragon Emperor unleashed upon him.

WHOOSH WHOOSH WHOOSH!

Rui’s attacks were smooth as he almost thoughtlessly evaded death strikes with perfect accuracy. The Prophecy of the Void allowed him to see each attack coming from a mile away, and it made evading them extremely easy. Even easier than if he were actually faster than Lord Shenlong.

Rui had been using foresight for a long, long time.

And yet, the feeling of euphoria that he got from predicting his opponent’s attacks and then evading them perfectly was one that he had never gotten over. It was one of the most exciting feelings in the entire world. What was especially exciting was that he could foresee more than just a few moves ahead.

He could foresee much of what was to come.

Including the surprise gamma radiation attacks that Lord Shenlong intended to hit him with when he drew closer for an attack. Just as Rui evaded a few more claw swipes, he charged in for a blow, his hand balling into a fist.

VMMMM!!!

The scales that he had fast charged towards began glowing just half a moment before they unleashed a gamma radiation laser. Rui’s eyes sharpened as he smoothly evaded the laser just a moment before the attack went off.

Without foresight, such an attack would be deadly. The speed of light was the cosmic limit of the universe, and that made it extremely difficult to evade attacks based on electromagnetic radiation. Without Rui’s foresight, evading them would have been beyond just a hassle. All organic life would undoubtedly fall prey to his gamma radiation, especially when he could just spew them willy-nilly across the entire battlefield.

And yet, the battle had only just begun.

Lord Shenlong’s predatory eyes remained fixed on Rui as a low, rumbling roar of a voice emerged from within his jagged jaws.

"Let us see how long you can keep up the circus, Rui Quarrier."

Rui’s eyes widened as he foresaw exactly what was coming.

He leaped away just in time to evade the maelstrom of gamma radiation bursts. And yet, having seen Rui deal with simpler attacks effortlessly before, the Dragon Emperor did not merely unleash a simple wave of gamma radiation.

He made sure each scale unleashed its own wave with slightly different frequencies so that constructive or destructive superposition was unlikely to occur. His body had tens of thousands of scales, each capable of unleashing a potent pulse of gamma radiation.

A wicked grin emerged on the Dragon Emperor’s face while Rui’s expression grew grim. They both understood exactly what that meant.

RUMBLE!!!

The world shook as Lord Shenlong unleashed a storm of gamma radiation pulses.

Tens of thousands of them moved towards Rui at near the speed of light, threatening to destroy the organic life that comprised his being. Each more powerful than the next.

Simultaneously, the Dragon Emperor focused all his physical energy on ensuring that the distance between them closed. The closer he was to Rui, the harder it would be for Rui to evade all the attacks that Lord Shenlong unleashed upon him.

Despite being frenzied, the Dragon Emperor was not a fool. He had not lost his intelligence at all. Rui’s incredible evasive prowess meant that it was impossible for the Dragon Emperor to successfully land a strike on him under normal circumstances within the environment of the ocean.

He could tell that Rui had thought this through. Lord Shenlong felt his joints creaking, his muscles groaning, and even his bones straining under the astronomical amount of force that was being mounted on his body. His body’s volume was far greater than that of Rui’s, making him endure vastly greater force than his opponent.

On top of that, his scales not only did not help, but they were also actively harmful. The pressure at the deepest canyon of the universe was so intense that each of his scales had become a battering ram that pressed into his own flesh, crushing him.

His body’s volume had already reduced by ten percent from this compressive force. In comparison, Rui looked entirely unbothered by the extraordinary pressures of the ocean mounting on him. His preparations had enabled him to adopt a technique that he had created for just this very purpose, allowing him to skip through a lengthy preparation process.

An ordinary dragon would have been long compressed into a spherical mound of flesh under the continuous, sustained pressure that the ocean inflicted upon them, but the Dragon Emperor was different.

I don’t have too much time.’ His yellow, reptilian eyes glinted with grim awareness. ’I need to consume him soon and then escape these heavy waters.’

Of course, the Dragon Emperor was very well aware of the rational idea to simply escape the ocean first and then try to kill Rui when he tried to get out of the waters, but he chose not to go for that route on purpose.

Why

Because that would be running away.

’And the Dragon Emperor never runs away from his prey!’

His dragonic pride forced him to stay with Rui, partaking in his trap and preparations. He would overcome all of his opponent’s traps and planning, and then kill Rui anyway, proving that he was the most powerful being in the world. That even the man who had defeated the Supreme Commander of the Evolutionary Army and survived a light elven ambush would not be able to trounce him despite preparation.

His eyes sharpened with greed and bloodlust as he continued unleashing an onslaught of gamma radiation against Rui.
