Xi Men Wo Xue

Chapter 3 Rock Wolf

Xiao Fei picked up the clump of grass roots from the ground. He had dug them up by the roadside during the day and, for convenience, had thrown them directly into his space.

Less than half a day had passed since he put them in, yet many inch-long tender shoots had already grown.

The growth rate was too fast!

He broke off a tender shoot from the grass roots and put it in his mouth. It was fresh, tender, sweet, and juicy.

This discovery reminded Xiao Fei that the time in his space and the time outside were likely different.

The fact that the fire he had left earlier had burned so quickly was good proof of this.

Xiao Fei guessed that time flowed faster in his space than in the outside world, but he didn't have any timing tools on hand to confirm it completely.

Thinking of this, Xiao Fei's hands and feet trembled with excitement. He had effectively gained the ability to make crops grow rapidly.

He left the space and brought all the fern roots he had just dug out into it. Using his wood-cutting knife, he dug the soil and planted all the fern roots in his space.

This operation left Xiao Fei almost exhausted.

In the space, he only had a phantom body formed by his consciousness. Having his consciousness dig and plant was more than ten times more difficult than doing it with a physical body.

He lay on the pile of grass, panting heavily for a while, then got up and started a fire in this rocky den.

Because he had his space, he picked up any dry firewood he saw along the way and threw it into the space. Otherwise, finding firewood in this place full of rocks would be difficult.

The sky had already turned completely dark. Xiao Fei dug out a few more fern roots and roasted them in the fire.

Although the roasted fern roots were still bitter, their taste had improved considerably.

In fact, for someone who was extremely hungry, taste was already secondary. The primary goal was to fill their stomach.

Every day, the first thought upon seeing anything was whether it was edible.

Today, he was lucky enough to finally fill his stomach.

Thinking of the acceleration ability his space possessed, planting a day earlier meant he could solve his hunger a day earlier.

Although the sky was dark, he was too excited to think about sleeping.

He added more firewood, making the fire burn brighter, and continued to dig for fern roots by the light of the fire.

The wood-cutting knife was not very effective for digging. It took him over an hour to dig out the remaining fern roots, yielding about four catties of fern roots.

He cut these fern roots into pieces and planted them all in his space. These fern roots were seeds, and he was reluctant to eat too many. He only kept a small portion, enough for one meal the next day, and would continue to make do with bark and grass roots for the rest of the time.

After finishing these tasks, Xiao Fei was completely worn out. He added some firewood to the fire, took out a pile of grass from his space, and lay down in it to sleep.

After suffering from hunger, pain, and fatigue for days, Xiao Fei was already extremely weak. Today, he finally ate a full meal, and he slept exceptionally soundly and deeply.

Now that fern roots were planted in his space, he would no longer wake up hungry in the middle of the night.

The fire was still crackling, and in the darkness a short distance away, a pair of glowing green eyes patiently waited.

That night, Xiao Fei had a beautiful dream. He dreamt that he had grown large quantities of grain in his space, more than he could ever eat. He also dreamt of redeeming his second sister…

"Ah…"

In his dream, a bloody maw swallowed him, and intense pain jolted him awake.

At that moment, a gray rock wolf pounced on his leg, tearing off a piece of flesh.

Xiao Fei quickly rolled over, drew his wood-cutting knife from behind, and stared intently at the rock wolf.

The rock wolf retreated to the side and, right in front of Xiao Fei, swallowed the piece of flesh it had in its mouth.

It had almost directly told Xiao Fei.

"Come and hit me! Your flesh and blood are already in my belly."

After swallowing the flesh, the rock wolf seemed to realize that the wood-cutting knife in Xiao Fei's hand was difficult to deal with. It slowly retreated, maintaining a distance of over ten zhang from Xiao Fei, neither leaving nor approaching further.

Xiao Fei could only take the opportunity to tear off a strip of cloth and haphazardly bandage the wound on his leg.

The two parties remained in a stalemate, staring at each other for a long time, without any sparks of affection flying.

Neither dared to make a move. The sky was already starting to lighten, and Xiao Fei did not want to waste any more time with a wolf.

He had already obtained the fern roots, which could grow rapidly in his space. With this initial capital, he could slowly improve his situation and survive in this world.

Fighting a wolf here, whether he won or lost, was not a rational choice.

Xiao Fei vigilantly watched the rock wolf, slowly backing away, and climbed up the stone wall.

Then he continued to climb up the mountain, while the wolf did not want to let him go and maintained a not-too-far, not-too-close distance.

In this situation, Xiao Fei could only climb upwards. The Black Stone Mountain was steep, and he could gain an advantage from a higher position.

If he went down the mountain with the rock wolf behind him, as soon as he showed the slightest weakness, the rock wolf only needed one pounce to knock him down.

Xiao Fei scrambled over the rocks, his two injured legs trembling uncontrollably. He was becoming weaker and weaker.

In contrast, the rock wolf appeared relaxed and at ease, only needing to wait for Xiao Fei to be completely exhausted before pouncing for a killing blow.

Xiao Fei realized the problem. If this continued, he would definitely lose.

He had already collected many stones and put them into his space along the way, but he had never practiced, so he couldn't throw them accurately.

When he climbed to a relatively flat area, he couldn't climb anymore and sat down on a rock to catch his breath. He also grabbed some grass from his space and covered himself thickly.

The wood-cutting knife he had been holding was also thrown aside. His hands were curled up near his neck, leaving his chest and abdomen exposed.

As he leaned back, the rock wolf loitered around, observing him stealthily from various angles.

This human seemed to be at his limit!

But it was patient and continued to observe and wait.

Xiao Fei remained motionless for over two hours, his eyes narrowed into thin slits, secretly observing the rock wolf's movements.

Just then, the rock wolf seemed to be sure that the prey was no longer a threat. It lowered its body and quietly approached Xiao Fei.

Seeing this, Xiao Fei maintained his motionless posture, but his heart was pounding like a drum, his heart beating so violently that it felt like it would leap out of his chest.

When the rock wolf got within five or six feet, seeing that Xiao Fei was still motionless, it lowered its body slightly and suddenly lunged at Xiao Fei like an arrow released from a bowstring, biting at Xiao Fei's abdomen and tearing at it fiercely.

Xiao Fei, who had been leaning back in a feigned sleeping position, suddenly had a rock the size of a large bowl in his hand.

"Bang!"

With a dull thud, Xiao Fei, holding the rock with both hands, smashed it hard against the back of the rock wolf's head.

Beasts' bones were generally hard, and a single blow to the head might not be fatal.

Xiao Fei struck the spot where the rock wolf's skull connected with its cervical vertebrae, a relatively vulnerable area.

With this blow, the rock wolf's teeth, which were biting into Xiao Fei's abdominal skin, immediately lost their grip. Its limbs straightened, and its body began to tremble uncontrollably.

Xiao Fei was still not reassured and continued to smash the rock wolf's head with the stone until it was a bloody mess before stopping.

The rock wolf was finally dead. Xiao Fei sat down on the ground, panting heavily.

Because of the tension, his body had been stimulated, and his adrenaline had surged. Even though he had been bitten by the wolf, he hadn't felt pain. Now that the adrenaline was subsiding, he felt pain in every wound, and he had no strength left in his body.

His leg, from which a piece of flesh had been torn earlier, had endured the mountain road for so long.

Now, a large piece of flesh had been bitten off his abdomen again. Fortunately, he had covered it with grass earlier, otherwise, his intestines would have been exposed.

He wanted to raise his hands to bandage his wounds, but his hands were trembling uncontrollably.

After a long period of fumbling, he finally managed to simply bandage his wounds to stop the bleeding.

His body was still very tired, and he had no strength at all. However, he absolutely could not stay in this place for long. With such a strong smell of blood, if it attracted other wild beasts, he wouldn't even have the strength to escape.

He put the rock wolf's corpse into his space and picked up the wood-cutting knife he had left nearby.

Then, he began to stumble his way down the mountain.

The path down the mountain was even more difficult than the way up, and with his injuries, he almost fainted by the roadside several times, relying solely on his willpower to persevere.
