Chapter 303: I Don’t Want To Die!
"...Another capsule... hmm capture evaded?" Commander Aiz muttered as his senses stretched out, locking onto the signatures of a few fresh first-year students and a dozen Drakenar quickly converging on their position.
Felix and several classmates with a broken transport capsule behind them had managed to defend against the red gemstone sphere that should have swallowed them and left them incapable of using mana but that minor victory didn’t mean much now.
The Drakenar surrounded them like wolves circling sheep.
Felix drew his sword while activating his system skills.
"Stay behind me!" he yelled before swinging out multiple times.
[ Dissonant Cleave Has Been Activated ]
Arcs of energy was released from this sword, which cut through the air with speed.
Beside him, a female mage raised trembling hands and began to chant.
[ Level One Lightning Burst ]
Spheres of lightning burst forth and zapped toward another advancing Drakenar, stunning it in place.
A berserker in their midst, roared and coated his fists with blood-aura before charging headlong at the nearest enemy in a frenzy.
He threw out punch after punch, causing a Drakenar to buckle and stagger backwards from the intensity.
An assassin student flickered in and out of sight with a two feet long dagger in his grasp as he flashed from shadow to shadow, looking for an opening.
Meanwhile, the summoner of the group knelt quickly and placed her hand on the ground as a glowing circle appeared beneath her.
With a shout, a level two beast that resembled a ten feet tall wolf-like creature, snarling with fangs bared, leapt into the fray.
Then the trapped students inside a nearby reddish cocoon screamed, "Help us! Please—don’t leave us in here!" Their desperate pounding only added to the chaos.
Vayla turned toward Aiz with a pleading expression. "They’re fighting with everything they have. Let me—"
But Aiz raised his hand sharply before commanding with a cold voice. "Oin 7, Take care of them."
A group of seven Drakenar nearby who already looked hungry for blood, roared as they rushed in.
Vayla panicked. "Wait—don’t kill them! Be gentle!" she shouted desperately.
But her voice was drowned beneath the carnage.
One Drakenar opened his maw wide and vomited a column of molten lava, sweeping across the surroundings like a tidal wave.
The mage’s lightning spells fizzled on contact and her scream was cut short as her body ignited.
"UUAAAHHH!"
Another Drakenar manifested a rough zigzagged like weapon of lava in his claws and in a flash, he slashed down.
The berserker’s frenzied punch was met with a searing blade. The boy’s right arm was severed in an instant, spraying blood across the clearing before his body was bisected in the next strike.
"Dustin!" The assassin cried out while charging forward in horror and anguish.
He flashed stepped behind a Drakenar and thrust his dagger towards it from behind.
However, the Drakenar’s entire body liquefied into molten rock, becoming living lava.
The assassin’s dagger plunged into the figure’s torso but it melted away like wax. The assassin barely had time to gasp before Drakener spread it’s arms wide and pulled him into a steaming embrace.
Lava engulfed the assassin completely, causing his body to dissolve with a hiss.
The summoner shrieked, commanding her beast to intercept.
The wolf lunged at one of the Drakenars, clamping around it’s throat aggressively wiyh razor sharp teeth.
However, it only lasted for a second before the Drakenar shot his fist forward.
Bang!
It’s scaly muscular hands, burst through the belly of the creature, causing it to burst into flames from the inside out.
"Awooouuu!"
The wolf howled in agony as burning blood leaked through the hole in its body before it collapsed.
The summoner’s body trembled due to the bond between summoner and beast.
She managed to stabilize herself and began chanting again in order to summon her second beast when a lava spear tore through the air.
Twwwhoockkk~
Her figure was impaled her mid-chant, sending her flying across the air before pinning her to a rock where she burned alive.
It was over in just a few minutes.
All that remained was Felix.
The Drakenars circled him like predators savoring a cornered prey. Their molten forms hissed with every step, dripping embers that burned holes into the blackened earth.
One had an arm shaped into a blade of darkened lava; another gurgled with its body in a half-liquid, half-solid state. Glowing cracks streaked across its surface.
His sword rattled in his grip as he trembled with a horror stricken expression while staring at the charred remains of his classmates smoldered around him.
The smell of burning flesh choked the air.
His bladder gave way, causing urine to stream down his leg.
He had managed to take down a few Drakenars but there were literally hundreds upon hundreds in the surroundings. What could a D ranker like him possibly achieve in the face of such an impossible situation?
However, when he turned to stare at the students trapped within the reddish cocoon, his face turned determined.
He raised his sword above his head even as his body and his throat felt dry.
"I... I won’t die without fighting!" he screamed.
And with a desperate roar, he charged headlong into the wall of Drakenar.
The nearest Drakenar sneered as its molten jaws curled upward. It swung its arm-sword down at him, faster than Felix expected.
He managed to raise his blade causing sparks to fly as steel met burning obsidian. The impact rattled his bones.
His knees gave way, and he stumbled back as hot air seared his skin.
Another Drakenar vomited out a torrent of lava, carving a fiery scar across the battlefield with the blazing stream.
Felix leapt aside, barely escaping, but the heat caused his boots to steam. His ankle twisted painfully as he landed.
He cried out, but he didn’t stop.
His fear was so overwhelming that it flipped into desperation.
He lunged while stabbing forward with a wild cry.
"Hyaaahhh!"
His sword pierced the molten shoulder of the nearest Drakenar but it was like stabbing fire itself. The blade sank in only a few inches before the creature’s molten body began to eat at the metal.
"Useless," the Drakenar’s voice sounded like bubbling tar.
It sent Felix flying with a contemptuous backhand.
Bang!
Felix’s body spun across the air before hitting the dirt hard and rolling until he slammed into a charred log.
Pain shot through his ribs, and blood filled his mouth.
Yet, he tried to rise as his sword trembled in his hands.
The Drakenars closed in with their eyes glowing like coals.
"Time to die, human," one rumbled while raising its lava-forged arm.
Felix’s whole body shook as hot urine ran down his leg once again, but he refused to drop his sword.
’I don’t want to die! I don’t want to die! Someone... anyone... please save me!’
Tears filled his eyes as he charged again while swinging his sword out.
The Drakenar’s blade-arm cleaved down at the same time and a metallic sound rang out.
Clang!
A piece of severed blade spun through the air in the next instant and stabbed deep into the ground, thirty feet behind.
Felix eyes widened as he stared towards his right...
His right arm was missing.
"ARGHHHHH!" He screamed out in agony while clutching the burnt stump.
Suddenly, the sound of his scream was torn apart by another sound...
One that shook the heavens themselves.
"Noooo!"
It wasn’t Felix’s cry...
It was something greater...
A voice so deep and filled with willpower that it crashed across the battlefield like thunder.
At this very moment, every single living being on the surface craned their necks upwards in astonishment, disbelief and confusion.
In that same instant, the reddish circle in the sky rippled violently as a new presence tore through it.
The air quivered with a suffocating pressure, pinning even the Drakenars for a heartbeat.
Sparks exploded across the skies as the crimson veil split and a silhouette burst through.
Fwwhiiii~
He descended like a comet with a five feet long weapon of pure menace in his grasp, wrapped in swirling arcs of dark electricity.
