Chapter 300: Nip Her Career In The Bud

Chapter 300: Nip Her Career In The Bud

"For now, just lay low and don’t do anything, I’ll be back once I get some more information we can work with."

Jen remembered Axel’s words. Wait.

But how could she? With every passing second, things were getting worse, she didn’t know when they would get such an opportunity again.

Restless, she picked up the phone Axel had gotten her, the one she was only meant to use during emergencies. She reached under her bed, and took out her old phone from a box then switched it on.

Biting her lip, she dialed a number saved on her old phone and let it ring. Her chest pounding, she could barely grip the phone.

They needed evidence.

And fast.

If she and Axel stayed the way they were nothing would change.

She had to do something, even if it meant throwing herself in danger, she had to do something.

Her thoughts were cut off when the person on the other line answered...

Cassie grinned at the message she had sent to Brooke. "Serves you right. I cannot wait for tomorrow, it will be good." She said.

Serena rolled her tongue around her mouth, her thoughts disorganized. "Cassie, I don’t understand, why did you waste your opportunity? Do you think that wench Brooke will actually work in your favor?" She perched by her daughter’s side, and started massaging her shoulders.

"What if she charms him and has him hand her the role in the drama? What then?" Serena voiced out her thoughts.

Cassie’s grin grew wider, "Though I wouldn’t put it past that wench to do something so underhanded. None of that matters."

Her mother frowned. "It doesn’t? But this drama is going to be a hit, isn’t that what you said? We can’t let her get one over us."

"It doesn’t matter, because I have special plans for Brooke. I’m getting tired of having that one photo as leverage, since I’ve been discharged, that photo will lose it value once her film has debuted. So if I was going to release that picture, it’d have to be on the night of her premier." Cassie explained.

"Then do that! And nip her career in the bud once and for all!" Serena advised.

Cassie shook her head, "You’re so foolish mother. If I did that, then I lose my connection to the Grayson heir, and I can’t have that. After all he’s the biggest fish I want to feel in. And even though it would be satisfactory to see Brooke suffer, I figured it’d be better to have something stronger to use against her."

"Something stronger?" Serena echoed.

Cassie hissed, "Think! If I had her photographed whilst she’s on my little errand, do you think Brooke would ever be able to go against me? That bitch would submit and do whatever I tell her."

"But...on second thought, I still need to punish that bitch for daring to take a role from me. She’s gotten far too cocky, I should remind her not to ever mess with me. Right?" Cassie thought aloud.

"Punish? What do you have in mind?"

"Tomorrow, if I let her movie premier go without any scandals, that’d be like admitting defeat. No, I need to punish that wench!" She decided all of a sudden.

Her mother wasn’t completely sold, "But if you do anything to get your hands dirty, your rep could get dragged-"

"Oh but mother, I won’t be doing anything, it’s that classless wench who’d be digging her own grave. After all, what sort of idiot meets up with someone at a hotel the night to her movie premier?" She laughed at the new idea in her head.

"Forget the Grayson heir, we will eventually meet, if I can’t get to him through Brooke, I’ll do it myself. If I miss this chance, that would be too sad, right?" She stared at her reflection through the mirror, at the sinister smile playing on her lips.

*Halton Inc.*

"Sir, that’s the last item on the agenda, if it’s okay with you, can I go home? It’s my husband’s birthday, and I would like to be early..." whilst his new assistant spoke, Ethan’s thoughts were focused on the reports from the investigators he hired.

"No sign of her." He chanted under his breath, not one of his investigators had found Jen, just like with Brooke, it was as though they had just disappeared out of thin air.

He balled his fists, crumpling the sheets of paper in his grasp.

"Where are you hiding?" He gritted his teeth.

His assistant came closer, she leaned in, and stretched her hand out, "Um...excuse me...sir? May I go home-"

Frustrated, Ethan reached for his phone and tried to throw it at her, but a call suddenly came through from an unsaved number, snapping him back into reality.

He stared at the phone grasped tightly in his hand and then at the shock planted on his assistant’s face.

"Get out!" He yelled, dismissing her.

The woman sharply took to her heels, her heart pounding loudly in her chest.

"Shit!" He ran his fingers through his hair. Ever since the incident with Jen he had started to abstain from laying a finger on his new assistant. The last thing he wanted was her disappearing and having to live with the fear of what she could be doing.

Did that bitch really skip town? Is she going to report me to the police? No, she wouldn’t dare. And even if she did, he had the captain back at the station under his control, nothing would happen.

He was sure of it.

The phone in his hand rang again, pissed off he answered and brought it to his ear. "Who the hell is this-" he was saying, only to be cut off by the person’s voice over the phone.

"Come see me. We need to talk." She said into the phone.

Ethan withdrew the phone from his ear, and stared at it in disbelief. She called him? SHE called him?

His heart skipped a beat.

His anger vanished immediately, he brought the phone back to his ear, panicked, "Where are you? Send me the address, I’ll come pick you up!" He excitedly said into the phone.
