Chapter 289: Where Was He All This Time?
Cassie hissed, "What a boring name." She turned to Ethan, who seemed confused over the woman’s identity. She scoffed an explanation, "Apparently, the agency replaced my former assistant because she was the one leaking my information to the press." She filled him in.
She hardened her tone, "Although, I don’t seem to like this one any better."
"Then just fire her." He said looking at Hannah, "Something about the look in her eye creeps me out."
A laugh escaped Cassie’s lips, "Oh really? Then, I think I’ll keep this one on me." she averted her gaze to Hannah, "Where are the gifts?!" She sharply demanded.
"I kept them in the car, they were getting too heavy-"
Cassie snapped at her, "Who asked you to do that? Didn’t I say that I wanted to video Ethan’s reaction to the gifts?!"
She placed her hands in front of her and bowed her head, "My apologies! I’ll run over and get them now..." She stopped herself, a concerned look on her face.
Cassie was sharp to notice this, "What is it now?" She hissed.
Fiddling with her thumbs, Hannah said, "The driver went out for his lunch break, and he took the keys with him."
Cassie pinched her temples, vivid anger mixed with exhaustion painted on her face. "What the hell?! And why would he leave without my permission?!"
Once again, Hannah apologized, "My apologies! I told him he could leave, because I figured you’d spend a while here with Mr Halton..."
"That’s enough! I’m getting tired of hearing your stupid excuses! Call him back and get the gifts!" She ordered.
Hannah nodded, "As you wish ma’am." She took a slight bow then quietly let herself out of the room.
A sigh of relief escaped Cassie’s lips, "Thank goodness-"
"Oh, but Miss Cassie, I don’t have his number!" Hannah piped up, peeking her head out the door.
Cassie painfully closed her eyes and balled her fists. This little runt was getting under her skin far too much. ’I would’ve handled this bitch and taught her a good lesson, but my marriage is just around the corner. I can’t afford any scandals.’ she clenched her jaw, her breaths tensed.
Ethan who had gotten tired of this banter was near ready to throw both women out of his office. Why did he have to put up with this extra bullshit? All he wanted at the end of it all was his wife...
Slicing through their thoughts, Hannah messily walked towards the center of the room, "Could you please call the driver and have him come back?"
Cassie’s eyes went wide with rage, "Did you just order me? You bitch?!" She raised her hand, her aim pointed at Hannah’s cheek. With full force she brought her hand down, ready to smack the living daylight out of Hannah.
However, her assistant, did not only dodge the slap, but held her wrist firmly. Cassie who was of the opinion that the girl was frail, was stunned by how much strength her grip held. ’Why the hell is this runt so strong?’ she gritted her teeth.
"Miss Cassie, you should be careful when swinging your arm around, you nearly hit me." She laughed over Cassie’s low, angry groans.
"Let go already!" Cassie reprimanded, using her authority to mask her pain.
Hannah let out a nervous chuckle, "Oh! I didn’t realize I was still holding onto you. So sorry about that ma’am." She released her hand. Scratching the back of her head she explained, "I really didn’t mean to order you Miss Cassie, but my phone’s in the car downstairs. I didn’t take it out of my bag, so even if I did have his number, I couldn’t call if I wanted to."
"You idiot-"
"That’s enough out of you two! Cassie just call the damned driver!" He shouted, cutting the conversation short.
Cassie was furious, how dare Ethan raise his voice to her, and in front of a peasant no less. She scoffed, and tossed her phone at Hannah, "Call that idiot and have him come back immediately!" She ordered, trying to have some control over the situation.
She returned to the sofa and stretched her arms out, taking a deep breath. She was midway in her pregnancy, and found herself always getting out of breath really quickly.
"Yes, Miss Cassie!" She said and made the call. Once she finished she handed over the phone to Cassie, but quickly withdrew it from her grasp.
"The hell?!" Cassie snapped.
"My apologies, but your battery is really low, why don’t I have it charged for you?" Hannah offered.
"It’s fine!" She snatched her phone and glanced at the screen. Her assistant was right, she was nearing ten percent.
"But Miss Cassie, we’ll need your phone charged for the reaction video." She reasoned.
Cassie frowned, the woman was right. She had already promised to film one on live. She turned to Ethan, "Give me your charger, my phone’s dead-"
"I’m not giving you anything else Cassie, be grateful I even put up with your bullshit." He shot her down.
"Tsk!" She hissed. Annoyed, she slapped the phone onto Hannah’s palm, "Charge it in the car and bring it right back with the gifts I got."
"Yes ma’am!" She replied, then left the office.
Watching her leave, Ethan asked, "You’re just going to let her walk out with your phone?"
Cassie laughed, "Why? Do you think everyone’s like you? I don’t have anything to hide on my phone." She laughed, "And even if I did, my phone is locked. That runt couldn’t do anything if she tried."
Ethan wanted to probe more, but he decided against it.
"Speaking of the agency, tell them to inform me the next time they make any decision. With Luther gone, I’m the person with the most shares, no decision should be made without my consent." He told her, referring to her acting agency.
"Who died and made you king? Don’t forget that I still have shares in-" she stopped herself from speaking.
Didn’t she and Serena sell their shares to the Grayson heir back when Luther was in prison? Speaking of, she had completely forgotten to keep in contact with him over the recent drama happening.
Just where was he all this time? And why hadn’t he resurfaced ever since?
