Chapter 274: Some Sort Of Closure
*Flashback*
A hand came cracking down on Zara’s face, as Ethan returned back to his bedroom, fuming harder than before. His slap forcefully woke her up. She immediately was aware of her hands and feet which were still tied up.
"Are you finally ready to talk?! Who was it?! Who took my wife! I know you saw them! The video tapes, you intentionally deleted them! Didn’t you?!" He demanded, rolling his sleeves up.
Zara’s heart raced, she had done all that, she had seen the mysterious man that came to save Miss Brooke, and she helped him get her out of the house.
Since Zara had always been observant, she knew about the position of the security cameras. She also knew that Ethan would ask to see them first thing when he returned.
So she took a risk, a risk that landed her strapped to a chair and at Ethan’s mercy...
*Present*
The whole day was spent together, Brooke told Thane all about Julian, she shared some of the stories Susan and Kayden told her and basically catch him up to speed with the stabbing incident.
She also added the part where she ran into her ex at prison.
Thane was not too pleased when he heard about that.
"It seems Halton is still very much obsessed with you. We can’t have that, I’ll have to put that man in his place." Thane said, whilst Brooke twirled her fingers around his hair, forming curls.
She gazed down at the man whose head was placed on her lap. "I really was scared to death, it was the first time since the divorce that we’d seen each other."
He took her hand and kissed it tenderly, "If I could help it, I’d kill him for you, but that would be too quick a death."
Brooke pulled her hand away and gave his shoulder a slight smack. "Come on, don’t make jokes like that." Though she said that, a huge part of her felt that he wasn’t playing around.
Changing the subject, she quickly asked about Hannah, "What about Hannah? I didn’t see her when I came home, she hasn’t shown up the entire time either."
Thane responded, "She’s with Gilbert."
"With Gilbert? I thought that she wouldn’t want anything to do with him, not after everything that happened." She knew about how Gilbert tried to pin Thane’s attack on Hannah, she expected Hannah to be more furious with him.
She looked at Thane, searching for some kind of reaction, some sort of hope, but he remained stoic when he said, "What they do is none of my business. As long as you do not get harmed, they can act as they please. Just say the word, and I’d have them out of our lives forever."
"Will you do that for every body? Just take them out?"
Thane nodded, "It’s faster that way, isn’t it?"
Brooke let out a deep sigh. "You’re being practical, and I won’t lie there is some logic in what you’re saying. But Thane..." she took a pause, wondering if this was the right time to say something that had been on her mind.
Would it ruin the moment?
Would he be upset?
She shook her head. He already told her that he wouldn’t be angry, in fact he’d be angry if she kept this to herself, she knew she needed to be honest with him.
"Thane, I worry for you. I know you were raised by your grandfather, and your parents took you lightly, but as your wife, I don’t want to stand at the sideline and watch you keep this line of thinking." She stopped curling his hair, her heart pounding as she spoke.
She waited for him to say something, but he remained quiet, perfectly still on her lap.
She went on, "Relationships are something we try to maintain. I know I’m the last person to say this, considering most of my relationships didn’t work out. But, we should at the very least try to understand a person’s motives. I’m not asking you to forgive him, that would be too much to ask for. At the very least, you two should have a conversation, it won’t do much, but it could give you some closure."
"Closure?" Thane echoed.
"He’s worked with you for years, I feel before you permanently end things with him, you should talk with him, one last time." Brooke advised.
To her, even though Thane told her he was only interested in her, and that Gilbert’s betrayal was expected and had no effect on him, she couldn’t believe him. She just couldn’t phantom completely cutting someone who hurt you off.
She had been with Ethan for less amount of time, but while they were together she gave him multiple chances before finally sealing her heart of him.
Even at some point, she gave Cassie chances to redeem herself, but her sister always left her disappointed.
In her eyes there was at the very least a conversation to be had. She didn’t know if she was being forceful and stubborn, but she just wanted to teach Thane to give relationships a chance before calling quits.
To give trusting others a chance for once...
Ethan had turned the entire city upside down searching for Jen, but the woman seemed to have vanished! He got so worked up that he needed to find an outlet, any outlet to handle the stress.
He took out his phone to make a call but at that moment he got a call from the captain of the police department, the one he had placed in power to help cover his tracks.
"Sir, it’s about your fiancé Cassie. She filed a complaint against..." he was saying, but got cut off by Ethan.
"Listen here! Don’t ever call me for such meaningless things! I don’t care what that wench does!" He lashed out. As long as it didn’t affect his image or the business, Cassie could do whatever the hell she wanted.
But the captain, still persisted, he remembered how adamant Ethan was back at the station, hence he said to him.
"It was Brooke Larson, sir. The one Cassie filed the case against was Brooke."
