The medicine tasted bitter, and Joan Harry frowned as she swallowed it down.

She glared at him, her face full of dissatisfaction.

“What are you looking at? If you keep staring, I’ll eat you up,” Jesse Rowan said, feeling much better seeing her at a loss.

“Jesse Rowan, you’re really childish,” Joan Harry glanced at him indifferently.

Without saying more, she turned her head, facing away from him, and continued to sleep.

“Are you feeling any better?” Jesse Rowan asked.

Joan Harry didn’t speak. Better? Can she be better? She closed her eyes wearily.

Seeing she still wasn’t speaking, Jesse Rowan had to awkwardly put the cup back in place, saying quietly, “Then have a good rest. Don’t leave the hospital for the next few days. I’ll visit you when I can. I’ll sleep in the next room tonight, don’t worry, I won’t disturb you.”

“Can you go back to your place to sleep?” Joan Harry’s voice was weak and frail because of her discomfort.

Her lower abdomen still hurt; moving even a little was painful.

“I won’t disturb you,” Jesse Rowan reassured her repeatedly.

Joan Harry didn’t respond anymore because… every time she spoke, the wound would hurt a bit, and with the fever not entirely gone, she couldn’t muster any energy.

He can do whatever he wants.

Jesse Rowan didn’t disturb her further, turned off the light outside for her, and said, “I’ll be in the next room. Call me if you need anything, anytime.”

After saying that, knowing Joan Harry wouldn’t respond, he quietly tiptoed to the next room.

He finished a cup of coffee and continued working on the tasks at hand, as he needed to wake up early the next day.

Rain was falling outside, the sound filling the air.

Time ticked by, and before he knew it, Jesse Rowan nodded off at the desk.

In his dream, he returned to his childhood.

His childhood wasn’t particularly happy. Before he was five, kids his age didn’t like playing with him. They all said he had no father, his family was poor, and his clothes were old, some even modified from his mother’s clothes.

Because of this, he was very lonely before he was five, and he was quite introverted.

“Illegitimate child with no father!” Suddenly, a child picked up a stone from the ground and hit him on the head.

With a “thud,” Jesse Rowan awoke from his dream, rubbing his forehead.

Oh, yet another not-so-good dream.

The unfinished cup of coffee had gone cold; how did he just fall asleep?

In the dream, it was still those annoying kids.

He coughed lightly, pulled himself together, and continued working on emails.

Night had fallen deeply, yet he no longer felt sleepy.

He remembered Qingming Festival was approaching, and he should visit his mother’s grave to burn some incense.

The rain drizzled outside the curtain during this springtime March.

Everywhere, there was a dark, oppressive gloom. Looking out, it was all darkness, no light in sight.

The next morning.

The rain had stopped, mist rising in the air, shrouding the entire Landon in a white haze, giving the city a hazy appearance.

After two consecutive days of rain, the temperature had dropped significantly.

Jesse Rowan donned his suit, quickly ate a bit of breakfast, and left the hospital room.

As he was leaving, Joan Harry was still asleep. He couldn’t help but press a kiss on her pretty, fair cheek.

Unfortunately, this scene was witnessed by Joan Harry’s doctor.

The female doctor looked at Jesse Rowan and cautioned, “The patient just had a miscarriage; she cannot engage in intercourse.”

“…” Jesse Rowan rolled his eyes, “Do I look that desperate?”

The female doctor gave Jesse Rowan a once-over.
