Chapter 1636: Chapter 1636: Her hand rested on her lower abdomen
Joan Harry smiled, the smile at the corner of her lips resembling a poppy flower, laced with poison.
She knew that once his identity was mentioned, he would lose his composure.
She also knew he loved being the center of attention, with everyone flattering and fawning over him, vain like a teenager.
His illegitimate identity was probably the most disgraceful thing in his life, one that couldn’t be erased even with time.
"Jesse Rowan, let go. I’m going to have an abortion. Even if I don’t have the child, I don’t want an illegitimate one," she said calmly.
An illegitimate child is destined to live in the shadows, forever branded with a disgraceful label; how could she let her own flesh and blood be treated with disdain?
Earlier, she thought marriage and having children were perhaps the most natural things in life, but now they seem like a luxury.
If there is a future, she just wants to live well and find someone who loves her... that’s enough.
Is there still a future? In her current state, how long can she last?
Joan’s face grew paler, and in her ears was Jesse’s hurried breathing.
His hand was still squeezing her neck, his strength carrying a hint of anger.
"Jesse, I don’t want this child even more than you do. No child wants to be born into an unhealthy family. But now, you’re choking my neck; how am I supposed to have a miscarriage? If you want to follow me, just do it." Her tone showed little fluctuation, her voice weak.
Her heart and blood had already been exhausted on the way here.
With Jesse, there was nothing left to say.
They almost had nothing in common, even living under the same villa often felt like strangers.
She liked reading, photography, gourmet food, and embracing new things.
While Jesse liked playing, cars, and women.
Between them, there was no common ground to be found.
These days, he’s been busy with work, and they barely said a word; even in bed, he was just reckless without speaking another word to her.
He was not her type either.
Jesse’s emotions hadn’t completely calmed down, his breathing was very hurried and unsettled.
Without saying a word, his hand gradually loosened its grip.
"Cough cough." Joan’s neck hurt quite a bit, as did her wrist.
She looked at Jesse indifferently, seeing coldness in his eyes, alongside a trace of helplessness.
Pushing his hand away, Joan walked back towards the clinic.
To prevent herself from falling, she supported herself against the wall, her chest aching terribly.
The female doctor was still waiting for her in the clinic, and seeing her return with a poor complexion, hurriedly poured her a cup of hot water: "Is that your boyfriend? Had a quarrel?"
Joan shook her head: "He’s not my boyfriend. Doctor, prescribe the medicine please."
The female doctor nodded, prescribed the medication, and advised: "Take the medicine on time every day. If there’s uncontrolled bleeding, come to the hospital for an examination promptly. If everything goes smoothly, and the embryo is expelled successfully, come back to the hospital for a check-up in about three or four days. Lower belly pain is normal."
The doctor kept advising her while prescribing the medicine.
Joan kept nodding.
"I’ll give you a business card; call me immediately if there are any issues. Don’t bear it alone."
"Thank you, doctor."
Joan’s gaze appeared somewhat dazed and blurred, her hand resting on her lower belly, gently rubbing.
She couldn’t feel the slightest heartbeat of the child; it was just a transient life.
