Chapter 1580: Chapter 1580: Wanting to Get Pregnant Is Not Easy
Aunt May cared deeply for Jasmine Yale, her heart aching a little for this thin, petite girl. She had a lovely smile, with two shallow dimples at the corners of her lips.
“How long have you and Sylvan Cheney known each other?” Aunt May asked curiously.
“We’ve known each other for many years,” Jasmine said, her tone a little shy. Especially when talking about Sylvan Cheney, her face always carried a touch of sweetness.
“Many years, huh? I didn’t even know that. I’ve known Sylvan for many years too, after all.”
“We weren’t this close in the past,” Jasmine said, a little embarrassed.
“That miscarriage back then… was it Sylvan’s child?” Aunt May asked directly, her eyes fixed on Jasmine.
Jasmine nodded and didn’t deny it.
“I always thought he was different from other men. I didn’t expect he could do something so despicable. I’m an obstetrician, I’ve seen all kinds of pregnant women and irresponsible men. I didn’t expect Sylvan to be one of them.”
“Aunt May, no, it wasn’t like that. It was my own carelessness that time and had nothing to do with him. He didn’t know I was pregnant.”
“Seven months, and he didn’t know?”
“I…” Jasmine was suddenly at a loss for words.
“Don’t make excuses for him. Not knowing your own woman is seven months pregnant is the epitome of irresponsibility. I’ve known him for years, but I won’t defend him for that. I feel for young women—pregnancy and childbirth are so hard. If a man won’t stand by her, he’s a scoundrel.”
Jasmine lowered her head and took a sip of the hot water in her cup.
“Aunt May, it happened so many years ago…”
“I understand, we won’t talk about it anymore,” Aunt May said, changing the topic. “Let’s talk about now. Look at you, so skinny.”
“Maybe it’s because I’ve been dieting recently,” Jasmine said with a smile, offering an excuse.
“You sure are good at defending Sylvan Cheney. It’s clearly because he didn’t take good care of you.”
“No, truly no, he takes very good care of me.”
“Fine, I can see it now—you always stick up for him,” Aunt May said with a wave of her hand. “Later, when we get the test results, I’ll take a look. Your physical health isn’t in great condition.”
“Aunt May, a doctor once told me it might be hard for me to get pregnant in the future. Is that true?”
“Hmm, that miscarriage caused quite severe damage. Inducing labor at seven months old harms the mother’s body the most.”
Hearing this, Jasmine’s face showed a look of disappointment, her eyes welling up with a faint film of tears. They appeared misty and dazed.
Even though she was holding a cup of hot water, her body still felt a little cold.
“But difficult to conceive doesn’t mean impossible. You’re still young. With proper care, there are plenty of opportunities,” Aunt May quickly reassured her.
Seeing Jasmine like this, she realized the girl was on the verge of tears.
Aunt May didn’t want to make the young woman cry.
She didn’t need Sylvan Cheney coming back and thinking she’d bullied his wife.
“Do you really want a child?” Aunt May asked in a gentle voice, her face kind and compassionate.
Jasmine nodded, “I really like children.”
“What’s so great about children? My own son has been nothing but trouble for me. When he was young, I worried about him not taking school seriously and having an early romance. Later, I didn’t want him to go to medical school, but he insisted. And now? He’s so old already, and he doesn’t even have a partner. I’ve worried about him my whole life, and it never ends.”
Jasmine laughed, “But you still love him very much, don’t you?”
Aunt May shrugged, “He’s my own child, I can’t stay mad at him.”
“Having a child brings more happiness than anything, doesn’t it?” Jasmine observed as she noticed that even though Aunt May complained about her son, her face lit up with joy as she spoke about him.
