Chapter 1236: Why don’t you go on an adventure?
"What did you say?" Lin Fan asked in a confused voice.
He couldn’t help looking at Haku with a strange look, but she just looked right back at him with a calm look on her face.
It didn’t seem like she thought that she had said anything wrong.
But for Lin Fan, he really was confused and shocked by what she had just proposed to him.
After a long silence, Haku finally said, "Why don’t you go on an adventure?"
Lin Fan kept looking at her with the same strange look as he just couldn’t figure out what she meant by this.
However, there was one thing that Lin Fan knew...
For Haku to say something like this to him, it was clear that there was something that she wanted from him.
"Where are you sending him?" Rokuko asked all of a sudden when she saw that this conversation wasn’t going anywhere.
Haku suddenly revealed a smile when she heard that Rokuko was interested and wasted no time telling her what she wanted to know.
The place that Haku was trying to send Lin Fan was another one of the taboo zones of the continent. It was known as the Forest of Death and it was a place that was filled with all kinds of danger based on the stories that came back from it.
It certainly didn’t seem like a place that one would send someone to unless they hated them.
But Lin Fan and Rokuko knew that Haku was doing this because this was something that Lin Fan would have wanted.
After all, it was only in these taboo zones that he would be able to find something that was worth harvesting. In those normal adventure zones, there was nothing special about them that could catch his attention.
Only in these dangerous places were there rewards that he could get excited about.
It was just how it was when it came to adventure.
One had to take risks if they wanted to obtain treasures.
But Lin Fan knew that it wasn’t as simple as that.
After all, Haku wouldn’t do anything to help Lin Fan like this even if she was beaten to death. The only times that she had suddenly done something like this was when there was something else that she wanted.
When Haku was done explaining, she just waited to see what Lin Fan would respond with.
Only when she saw the way that Lin Fan looked at her, she suddenly narrowed her eyes to look at him before saying, "What, are you doubting my sincerity or my goodwill? In short, you’re insulting me, aren’t you?"
She just lost her temper when she saw the doubt that was in Lin Fan’s eyes.
Lin Fan didn’t say anything even though she got angry like this since he knew that there was nothing to gain from arguing with her. Instead, he just had a look of deep thought on his face as he tried to figure out what the problem was.
After a while, he finally realized something.
It was the location...
"This Forest of Death is located in the territory of the former Kalos Empire, isn’t it?"
Though he said it like this, Lin Fan already knew the answer to this question since this was part of the explanation that Haku gave earlier. Well, not the explanation that she gave Lin Fan, but the explanation that she gave Rokuko.
When it came to Rokuko, she gave a clear explanation that involved every detail of this place.
It made it very clear the difference in treatment between Lin Fan and Rokuko.
Haku didn’t say anything in response to this, but this was an answer as well.
The main reason that Lin Fan asked this was because he had already figured out why Haku was sending him to this place.
It was obviously because of the Laver Empire taking over the territory of the Kalos Empire. Since they had taken over the territory of the Kalos Empire, that meant that they had to organize it as well since it was now their territory.
This Forest of Death fell into the territory that had to be organized.
Since it was one of the taboo zones, it wasn’t a place to handle and there were few people that were qualified to take care of it.
Lin Fan was one of those people.
After all, Lin Fan had already taken care of another one of the taboo zones before this and even exposed the Outer God that had been hiding there. So he really was the best choice to send to take care of this.
However, Haku didn’t want to admit that she was asking him for help with this matter.
So that was why she had brought this to him in this form of request rather than just being direct with him. She made it seem like she was doing him a favour rather than asking him for something.
Since Haku didn’t respond, Lin Fan didn’t bother saying anything else to her.
Instead, he just started thinking about how he would handle this.
It was a lie to say that he wasn’t tempted by the opportunity to explore another one of the taboo zones of the magic continent since he was certain that there would be treasures there.
It was just the way Haku said this to him...
In the end, Rokuko was the one that broke the silence by saying, "Since you’re sending him on this adventure, I’m sure that this is a proper request that also has a proper reward, right?"
When Rokuko said this, there was an awkward look that appeared on Haku’s face.
It was clear that she hadn’t planned on doing anything like this.
But now that Rokuko had put it out there, it seemed like she had no choice in this matter.
After thinking about it, Haku said, "It’ll be the same as a commission through the Adventurer’s Guild." Then after thinking a bit more, she decided to be more generous, "Of course, I’ll be adding a bit more to it since this is a private commission."
It really wasn’t much that she was adding, but she acted as if she was being magnanimous for doing this.
Rokuko just let her have her moment before suddenly saying, "Then what about gear? Shouldn’t you be providing some special gear since this is a special private request? It’s not like you would send him out there without any chance of success, right?"
Haku’s smile became a bit strange when she heard this.
She looked at Rokuko with this bitter smile, but there wasn’t anything that she could say when Rokuko looked at her with this innocent look on her face. In fact, that bitter smile soon turned into a normal smile as she watched Rokuko looking at her with this innocent look.
After watching her like this for a bit, Haku finally took out a few things and tossed them over to Lin Fan. She had no intention of properly handing them over to him, all she cared about was giving it as a show for Rokuko.
After Lin Fan received them, he looked at the items that he received from her carefully to see what they were.
The moment that his Appraisal Eyes showed him the descriptions, he couldn’t help being a bit surprised.
After all, none of these items were normal.
These were all special items that would help a normal adventurer in different scenarios.
These certainly weren’t the items that Haku would normally give Lin Fan.
He knew that the only reason that she gave him these was because of Rokuko’s request and the fact that Rokuko was still watching over her.
So he just casually put them away before Haku could say anything else, just in case that she would try to take them back after handing them over to him.
Haku glared at him as if she was unhappy to see him acting this way, but she ignored him in the end since it was more important for her to take in the view of Rokuko. For her, nothing was more important than Rokuko after all.
Since he had received all of these things, then there was no reason for Lin Fan to reject this proposal any longer as he agreed to go and explore the Forest of Death.
Haku didn’t say anything at first, but then she said, "Try and find what you can. If you can’t deal with what you’ve found, then come back and report it to me. I’ll send someone or I’ll come myself to deal with the thing that you can’t handle."
The way that she said this was almost as if she cared about Lin Fan.
But in reality, Lin Fan could see that she was peeking at Rokuko from time to time.
It was clear that she was only saying this to put on a show in front of Rokuko.
After all, Rokuko would be sad if something were to happen to Lin Fan and she didn’t want to see that happen. So even if she didn’t want to see Lin Fan again, Haku had no choice but to say this.
With that, it was decided that Lin Fan would be heading to the Forest of Death in the Kalos Empire.
But he did flash a smile in Rokuko’s direction during this time.
She had performed her role perfectly and it could even be said that she had trapped Haku in the palm of her hands with the way that she had played her.
That just went to show how much of a weakness Rokuko was for Haku.
