Chapter 1955: Chapter 1955: Secret
"This is indeed a great graveyard, but the people of this plane, or rather people of the Sacred Teaching, are a bit strange. Why are they all buried in the same place? Such scale is truly shocking. It always feels like there’s some conspiracy going on." The Enchantress observed these graves; they were either of the Pope or heads of the most powerful departments of the Court of Fire.
Li Yao shook his head: "Regardless of any conspiracy or schemes, I suppose with the collapse of the plane, they will be buried in history. There are no guards on this level, nor any resurrected people, which is quite unusual. By all logic, they should have the greatest chance of resurrection."
"Maybe these graves are actually seals," said the Enchantress uncertainly.
"Seals? What makes you think that?" Li Yao was taken aback and asked.
"No particular reason, it just suddenly occurred to me. Otherwise, I really can’t explain why none of them turned into Undead Creatures," the Enchantress shook her head and said.
"Let’s keep exploring," Li Yao nodded, noncommittal, knowing too little made it really hard to decide.
"It’s a pity that these graves are so sturdy. There must be good things inside, but I guess we don’t have enough time," the Enchantress said with some regret.
"It is indeed a pity. These were all important figures. There must be some treasured belongings buried with them. If we could take them out, it would be a big gain for us, alas."
Li Yao was also very disappointed. If they were treasure chests, he would have thought about opening them, but grave robbing... well, better not.
Unclear conditions and rash actions could lead to something terrifying emerging.
Roar!
As the two found the portal to the next level and were about to enter, they suddenly heard a deafening roar. A horrifying shadow appeared.
They couldn’t see the true form of this massive shadow at all but could only see a vortex of Void energy, and a terrifyingly eerie giant hand struggling to break free into the Void.
Boom!
The hand touched the ground, and a massive shockwave erupted.
The shockwave was like endless waves, shattering the tombstones and graves along the way.
Roar! Roar! Roar! Roar!
Countless graves shot flames into the sky, and fiery pillars emerged. Inside each fiery column was a glorious figure.
"Suppress!"
"Suppress!"
"Suppress!"
Countless figures shouted in unison, and layers of fiery pillars rippled out, quickly smoothing the damage the shockwave had inflicted on this level.
Crash!
The large hand that broke free turned to stone directly and then crumbled with the flames’ waves, and the Void vortex also dissipated.
The shattered stones of the large hand turned into pieces of tombstones and statues, all reverting to their original pattern and appearance.
The two stood at the channel entrance, dumbfounded and terrified. The energy fluctuations just now rendered them immobile. Thankfully, they were by the portal, or they, too, might have turned to dust.
"The owners of these graves were remarkable figures, legendary beings when alive. It seems that to be buried here, it’s not only about highly prestigious status; formidable strength is the true standard,"
Li Yao swallowed hard. There were so many graves here, each extraordinary, and it seemed they weren’t sealed but rather collectively sealing something.
"It’s fortunate these monsters are alive; if we had tried grave robbing, who knows..."
The Enchantress felt a bit lucky. They didn’t have enough time; otherwise, anything could have happened.
"They might not necessarily be alive. It seems they’re maintaining some power through the graves, collectively sealing a powerful being. However, considering this power comes from the Void, was it already eroded by the Void ages ago? But that’s not plausible; throughout the Ancient God World, Gods are rare. With the Void legion’s pride, corrupting a primary plane could be forgiven, but sending people for a small sub-dimension seems unnecessary."
Li Yao was baffled.
"Couldn’t it be that they sought out Void energy themselves, similar to how some believe in the philosophy of the Burning Legion, willingly embracing fel energy?" the Enchantress remarked.
"I’m afraid you misunderstand the Burning Legion. Everyone knows Sargeras’ fall, which is what the Temple of a Thousand Gods says. In actuality, Sargeras was the main force against the Void. His philosophy never changed. However, the Void’s corrupting power is too strong, almost impossible to resolve once corrupted. Each primary plane will birth a Star Soul, essentially a Titan. Once corrupted, it’s almost irreversible. Choosing destruction makes sense," Li Yao explained.
"But when a Star Soul is corrupted, the other beings on the planet are innocent," the Enchantress said, "I suppose that’s the Titans’ perspective as well."
Li Yao smirked: "This is about perspective. Planetary creatures think too highly of themselves. To Sargeras and the Titans, the planet’s natives are as insignificant as ants. Would you care about what ants think? Maybe you’re kind enough to watch them for a bit, but that’s just playing. If you’re in a bad mood, you might crush them underfoot, and at most, others might call you cruel. What else is there? That’s the plight of weak creatures; the cosmic view shaped by the Ancient God World is this harsh."
"Are you suggesting we should be grateful for not living in such a universe?" The Enchantress asked without refuting.
Li Yao’s smile was odd: "How do you know there are no Titans in our real universe? Even if there aren’t Titans, there are other gods or formidable beings. After all, life on other planets has been discovered, and we’ve found creatures like Ogres and Lizardmen. There are even powerful beings that can tear apart Interstellar Warships with their bodies. Have you forgotten the black dragon on the Lizardmen planet? When the Pioneer’s fleet lost contact with the Lizardmen’s planet decades ago, later investigations revealed brutal scenes with claw marks and magma burns everywhere, though not publicized."
The Enchantress remained silent. She also doubted whether this Ancient God World was truly a fictional world.
Perhaps to them, it was, but what about the people within the Ancient God World? Moreover, is Divine Metal really that simple? But now’s not the time to ponder these questions; pondering wouldn’t help them.
"Wait, almost got tangled in your words. We were talking about the Ancient God World; what’s the point of dragging reality into it?" The Enchantress suddenly realized: "Also, isn’t the Moon God of the Ancient God World a Star Soul as well? And yet, they weren’t corrupted."
"Who told you the Moon God wasn’t corrupted? You know why the Moon God didn’t leave with the Temple of a Thousand Gods, or how the Moon God split into three?" Li Yao sighed: "Several ancient Gods corrupting together, it’s nearly irreversible."
"It seems I read in the Guardian’s notes that there’s a Furnace capable of reshaping and correcting corrupted Star Souls."...
