Chapter 382: Chapter 382: Bring Back to South City
"Let me go, let me go!" Mrs. Cheng struggled, trying to break free from the men’s grip, but as a woman, how could she be a match for several men?
These men didn’t understand the notion of mercy. Mrs. Cheng’s lack of cooperation infuriated them to the extreme, and they knocked her out again.
With Mrs. Cheng in tow, the group quickly trekked over the mountain and left. They had to hurry back so their master wouldn’t grow impatient.
The group didn’t take a train, instead driving a van toward South City. A few hours later, the vehicle entered South City, and one of the burly men went to make a phone call.
When the call connected, Old Jiang, upon hearing that his men had brought Mrs. Cheng, immediately ordered, "Lock her up first, I’ll handle it when I get there."
The burly man agreed, then took Mrs. Cheng to a remote courtyard, where they locked her up. That confinement lasted two days.
During those two days, no matter how much Mrs. Cheng fussed, the burly man and his subordinates ignored her, not approaching the room except to deliver meals.
Two days isn’t long, but not short either. After being confined for two days, Mrs. Cheng was not well. Not only was her complexion haggard, but she also looked as if she had aged ten years.
During these two days, although the burly men hadn’t done much to her, her heart was in tremendous turmoil. She was tormented by the unknown fear and guilt and regret for betraying her daughter.
Just like Mrs. Cheng, Cheng Li was also tormented. Ever since she was locked in the storage room that day, she hadn’t come out. She ate, drank, and relieved herself within that storage room. Fortunately, there was a bathroom inside; otherwise, her days would have been even harder.
Compared to the mother and daughter, Old Jiang fared quite well. His people not only brought Mrs. Cheng back, but those who went to investigate found new information.
His people discovered that Mrs. Cheng did take in a child back then, but after a few days, she sent it away again. So now, he was certain that Shangguan You hadn’t betrayed his eldest son, Jiang Yun, and indeed gave birth to a child. It’s just that the child was discarded by Mrs. Cheng.
As for where the child was abandoned, he could only ask Mrs. Cheng for more information.
Thinking of this, an image of a face involuntarily flashed through Old Jiang’s mind, causing him to freeze in shock, feeling unwell.
He quickly shook his head, dismissing the unrealistic thought. Really, why did he think of Jiang Xue?
With Jiang Xue’s temperament, she couldn’t possibly be part of the Jiang Family. After all, the Jiang Family prided themselves on being adaptable and pragmatic.
With this in mind, Old Jiang felt somewhat relieved. Honestly, he didn’t wish for Jiang Xue to be Jiang Yun and Shangguan You’s child. Because Jiang Xue was too difficult to control, he feared he couldn’t manage her.
He certainly didn’t want the future of the Jiang Family to be dictated by someone else. Even if he was old, as long as he was alive, the Jiang Family had to be under his control.
While Old Jiang pondered, he made a call, then instructed his subordinates, "Take Cheng Li, we’re leaving."
Thus, after being confined for a few days, Cheng Li finally stepped out of that room and saw Old Jiang once more. Seeing Old Jiang, she was about to call him grandfather, but remembering what he said that day, she shut her mouth tightly.
Old Jiang’s men took Cheng Li and got into the car with Old Jiang, heading to the courtyard where Mrs. Cheng was confined.
Half an hour later, the car stopped, and Cheng Li was led out and into the courtyard. Cheng Li observed and her eyes flickered.
This courtyard didn’t seem as heavily guarded as the Jiang Family’s. If she wanted to escape, her chances seemed quite promising.
Just as she was thinking this, Cheng Li was pushed into a room, and before she could react, she saw a familiar person.
