Chapter 389: Chapter 389: Mother and Daughter Escape
As for Mrs. Jiang, she went to the kitchen to help Jiang Xue with the cooking.
Shangguan Wenbin left after having a meal at Jiang Xue’s house. As he was leaving, Little Reunion seemed a bit reluctant to part. It wasn’t until Shangguan Wenbin promised to visit again in a few days that he reached out his hand.
Jiang Xue walked Shangguan Wenbin to the door, and while walking on the road, she said to him, "Wenbin, I’m planning to visit my hometown for a couple of days these days."
The reason she told Shangguan Wenbin about her schedule was to avoid him coming over when no one was home. After all, KY University is very close to the community she lives in, and it wouldn’t take long for Shangguan Wenbin to visit.
"Alright, I got it. Be careful on the road when you go back, sister. I’ll come to see you and Little Reunion when you return." Shangguan Wenbin bid Jiang Xue farewell and then went back to school.
Back at home, Father Jiang and Mrs. Jiang were playing with Little Reunion. Jiang Xue told them about her plan to visit her hometown.
Upon hearing that Jiang Xue was going back to her hometown, Mrs. Jiang asked, "Why are you going back again? Didn’t you just go back recently?"
It’s been less than a week.
"Isn’t it getting colder? I want to bring my parents-in-law to the city for a while." Jiang Xue made up an excuse; she wouldn’t tell her father that she missed Mu Qiancheng.
Father Jiang, worried that Jiang Xue might be exhausted taking the child, said, "In that case, you go. If taking Little Reunion is inconvenient, just leave him with us."
"No need, my in-laws surely miss the child too. I’ll take him back with me."
After hearing this, Father Jiang and Mrs. Jiang didn’t insist further. They stayed a while longer at Jiang Xue’s house and then left.
The next day, after greeting her parents, Jiang Xue set off straight for her hometown.
Thinking about seeing Mu Qiancheng again, Jiang Xue’s heart was eager, yearning to reach home immediately.
While Jiang Xue was rushing to her hometown, Cheng Li in South City and her mother took advantage of the early morning when no one was around to secretly escape from the small courtyard.
Speaking of which, they were fortunate. The person watching them overnight was too tired and went to sleep early in the morning. What’s more, one of the windows in the room was broken, which conveniently allowed them to escape.
The mother and daughter climbed out of the window, picked a direction, and started running continuously. However, they didn’t notice the pair of eyes following them.
Seeing the two escape, the person tailing them quietly followed. The people above had instructed to give these two a big surprise, so he naturally needed to complete the task well.
Cheng Li and her mother, believing they had escaped successfully, were not aware of what awaited them ahead.
By now, they had escaped about five miles, and the two were too exhausted to move any further, so they stopped to rest.
"We finally got out!" Mrs. Cheng was filled with relief; as long as they escaped from that place, everything would be easier.
But then, where should they go now? Returning to their old home was definitely not an option, as Old Jiang would surely go there first if he knew they’d escaped.
Yet if not returning home, where could they possibly go? Staying in South City was definitely not viable since it was Old Jiang’s territory.
Thinking it over, Mrs. Cheng suddenly recalled someone she hadn’t seen in over twenty years. That person should be in a county near South City—it was their only chance now to try their luck.
Perhaps that person would remember things from decades ago and give them a helping hand?
