Chapter 268: Great new training regimen
It had been two weeks since Kai started journeying with Barry, and during this time, a lot of things had happened. Some good, some bad, and others pretty wild.
First, they were sailing in a lake, and some massive shark-like demonic beast tried to eat them. Of course, Kai made Barry handle it, but it turned out that the shark demon was a demon lord, so Kai had to kill it.
Then, they came across a village where the people were so high on the demon pills that they were literally turning into monsters. So they wiped out the village. Barry had no problem with that since the people turned into demons.
After that, they headed west to handle all of the demonic sightings, but it turned out that the people there handled it themselves and were even celebrating their victory. They had the heads of demons on a spoke while they danced around them and sang songs.
After that, they went south, and this is when things started to get weird. Barry started speaking to himself. Now, that alone isn’t weird; Kai does that all the time, but Barry was having full-blown arguments, and he started reaching for his sword.
Iris and Patty expierenced the same thing, even Cornilea started acting crazy.
"Okay, what the fuck is going on?" Kai scanned the area, but there was no demon in sight. The place was also pretty foggy, but because of his super vision, he was able to see through the fog.
"Are they...mental?" Amaya asked
"No, they’re not mental. Something is messing with their minds." Nadya tried to soothe their brains, but she was forced out.
"Why aren’t we affected?" Gwen looked at her body to see if there was anything different about it. Something that would let them know that their minds are being taken over.
"It’s because I used my power to prevent you all from being susceptible to mental attacks. It seems I forgot to place this on Cornelia." Kai waved his hand, and Cornelia snapped out of her trance.
"Wha-What happened? Weren’t you guys just eating the flesh of each other?"
All of them cringed and took a few steps away from her. "What the fuck was going on in your head?"
"What? I have a fear of Zombies, okay?" She admitted.
Zombies were real, but they were just the corpses of dead people with demonic energy flowing through their bodies. Also, they aren’t contagious.
"Are you going to help them?" Sasha waved her hand in front of Barry, Iris, and Patty. After speaking to themselves, they suddenly became frozen, standing there like statues.
"I’ll free the girls, but Barry needs to overcome this on his own." Kai did as he said, freeing the girls and explaining to them what had happened. They begged him to free Barry, but he told them what he said earlier.
Thirty minutes later, Barry woke up from his dream.
"Is this real?" His heart was beating fast, and it felt as if it was going to leap out of his chest.
Kai shrugged. "I don’t know? Define real."
"You’re not a giant bug taking the form of a man, are you?"
"Oh god! Fuck no! Hell no! Don’t say that shit again!" Kai shivered.
"He hates bugs." Gwen tapped Barry’s shoulder.
Amaya ran up to him and whispered in his ear. "One time, he ran away after a giant spider monster attacked us. He was screaming like a little girl."
Amaya’s body started floating, then she was flung somewhere into the distance.
"Ahem, now that you’re back. I have come up with a great training regimen for all three of you. You see, you three need to become strong, strong enough to beat the demon king. So, I’ll help you out."
Barry looked confused, and so did Iris and Patty.
"Weren’t you doing that before already?" He asked
"Kind of. You see, I was testing your limits, pushing you to the edge to see the full extent of your abilities. Now, I’m pretty sure I know what they are."
Barry started getting excited. He always wanted to get stronger, and he was looking forward to Kai helping him out, as long as he didn’t mess with his mind again.
"Great! What do we need to do?"
Kai cleared his throat, looking at Iris and Patty with a smile. He then looked at Barry and grinned.
"I don’t like that look." Iris whispered.
"I feel like he’s about to make us fight him or something." Patty said, taking a few steps back.
"Patty, you’re right on the money. You three will fight me with everything you have. Fight me as if you want to kill me. Only then will I truly know the full limits of your strength." Kai smiled.
He didn’t need to do this; he just wanted to beat up Barry.
"Is this necessary?" Barry asked, a bit nervously.
’Absolutely not.’
"Yes, it’s completely necessary. Now stop delaying and attack me."
The three of them looked at each other, nodded, then got into a battle stance.
"If you get hurt, don’t blame it on us." Barry gulped.
"Oh, please, you’d be lucky to even scratch my face." Kai grinned and then told them to come.
Barry took off, moving so fast that his feet weren’t even on the ground. Water trailed under him as he glided across the ground to approach Kai.
’Impressive. His movements are great! He’s using a gliding technique to avoid the terrain and its weird shapes and elevations.’
Barry swung his sword with all his might. It had enough force to level a small mountain, but it was stopped by Kai’s finger.
"W-What?!"
"Don’t get distracted!"
A fist blackened Barry’s vision as he was sent flying into a tree.
"Patty!"
"On it!"
Ice completely eased Kai, stopping his movements and keeping him stuck to the ground.
"Let’s see if you can handle this!" Iris’s blade burst into flames, her hair igniting as well. She swung at Kai’s arm, attempting to cut it off, but his hand reached out from the ice and grabbed her head. Even her flaming hair didn’t burn his hand, and she was slammed onto the ground.
"Akk!"
"Iris!"
Kai lifted his foot to stomp on her, but Patty shifted the ground, moving Iris closer to her.
"Good. Situational awareness. Instead of attacking me, you moved your friend instead. Very smart thinking." Kai complemented her.
"Your back is wide open!"
