Chapter 241: Written Letter
The six of them looked around the lab. It was a highly guarded, well-hidden, and efficient place. Anyone could do whatever they wanted here and not worry about being found out.
There were tons of people being experimented on regardless of their age, race, or gender. Screams or horror echoed through the hall, the sound of begging and pleading blew past the ears of the mad scientists, and blood. There was a lot of blood.
A man was strapped to a table with tons of stitches around his body. His hands and feet were purple, not from the cold, but from being corrupted by the energy of demons. "Please! It hurts! It hurts! Make it stop! Make it....Ugh...Argh...EUARGHHHHHHH!"
Something emerged from within his body, escaping from his mouth, killing him in the process.
"Please! My son! Don’t hurt my son!" A desperate mother cried.
But her pleas fell on deaf ears as the scientist injected a green oozing substance into her young son’s body, morphing his body into some disgusting monster before dying.
"This place is horrible! How can people be this cruel?!" Nadya felt for these people. After losing her family to the ambitions of another, she could sympathize with these people on a higher scale than those who never expierenced something like this.
"Illegal experimentation, the illegal distribution of drugs, and colluding with demons. That’s big crimes for a little noble woman." Kyana looked around, spotting the wife on a higher level of the lab. She squinted her eyes, seeing a purple pill in her hands, then fed it to a man suspended in the air by straps.
"Look." She pointed toward the scene.
Kai looked up, saw what was going on, and then teleported them all to the second level.
"I want these drugs distributed on Sharkfang Island. That dumbass Carlito couldn’t even do his job properly, and now I have to take over his slack." The wife grumbled in anger.
"But Madam Cucombar, it might be a little difficult with those new people in the way." A scientist said with worry.
"Don’t worry about them. We’ll sell these to the adventurers and mercenaries. Mana-restoring potions and pills are normal on the market, so we’ll pose these pills as them. When they are out of mana, they will take one, then boom, our product is spreading like wildfire, especially after they see how great the gains are."
The scientist nodded, taking into account eveything she said. "I’ll get these pills to another department so that they can disguise them as mana-restoring pills."
"Good. I’ll be in my office. Find me there if anything happens."
Gwen tapped Kai on the shoulder to get his attention. "Did you get all that?" She asked
"Yeah. Honestly, I have to applaud her. That’s a genius plan. Have people become addicted to the pill, and when the time comes, the demon king already has an army on the inside of the continent? It’s genius."
"Can we not compliment the bad guys?" Kyana asked
"Hey, I’m just saying that it’s a good plan, not that I think it’s a good thing. Come, let’s follow her."
They all followed Cucombar to her office, where they looked around to see if there was anything they could take that would tie her back to the demons. A good thing about this situation was that Kai knew where this location was, so he could relay this back to the church.
However, he was sure that there were contingency plans in place, so having something physical to prove Cucombar’s connection to the demons was crucial.
"Stupid fucking bastard! Dammit Carlito! You fuck up, then a hero from another fucking land shows up and ruins everything! Fuck! Nothing has been going well lately! Now my fucking husband is becoming suspicious since I have to oversee everything now!"
’Ohhhh! So even she knows that picklenose is getting suspicious.’
"My lovely picklenose. I hope he understands that I’m doing this for us. The demon king is vastly stronger than the hero of Aquaphina, and he won’t stand a chance against him. My siding with Lord Bahllz, I can have us survive."
’At least her heart is in the right place.’
’Guys! Over here!’ Amaya called out to them telepathically.
’What? What is it?’ All of them walked over and looked at what Amaya was showing them.
’Letters! From the demon king. She even has some prepared to send to him!’
Kai’s eyes lit up. ’That’s amazing! Grab a letter and let’s go. We’ve gotten all the proof we need.’
Just as they were about to leave, an orb on Cucombar’s desk started flashing red.
"Dammit, he’s calling!" She straightened her posture, put on a serious face, and answered the call.
"My lord." She greeted him with the utmost respect.
"How is the production?" His voice was deep, deeper than Malgus’s own. And it radiated power, even through the magical communication device.
"The production of the pills is going smoothly. More than smoothly, they’re going great! We plan on sending out the product within the next two days. We just need to make the pills look like mana pills so we can sell them on the market without suspicion."
"Good. And the demon spawn?"
Cucombar’s face dropped. "Most are a failure. Demon blood doesn’t mix well with mortal blood. We’ve tried elves, humans, dwarves, beastkin, and even some dragonborn, but 90% of the experiments end in failure."
The demon king paused, taking a minute to respond. "That is to be expected. Your fragile bodies cannot handle the power of demonic energy."
"There is one silver lining. Demonic beast blood. Demonic beast blood is able to awaken something in monsters. We fed a manticore the blood of a demonic beast, and it became so strong that we needed 15 tier-7 corcerers to pit it down. Then, we fed it demon blood, and it morphed into a humanoid form."
"Interesting. That is good progress in that department. I commend you for that."
"Thank you, my lord."
"Have you made any more breakthroughs?"
Cucombar cleared her throat. "We used that process with the monsters on mortals. The same thing happened, except the human broke down and died after around five minutes. So we tried a different approach. We got one patient addicted to the pills to the point where he became a mindless shell. Since his body was full of demonic energy, we fed him demonic beast blood, and his body mutated, becoming a monster. But after feeding him demon blood, he regained his mind and humanoid form."
"This is GREAT news!" The demon king sounded pleased.
"But he died shortly after, not even lasting three days."
"That is fine. Continue with your research. I want this experiment perfected."
"Yes, my lord."
The call ended, and Cucombar got up to get back to work.
