Chapter 565: Vocal Slip
"Gyrokinesis, Pyrokinesis, mild Cryokinesis, Thermokinesis, Telekinesis, telepathy, chonk, Psionic vision, Psionic aura, a form of hindsight, Psionic bullets, Specialised Psionic bullets, Voice amplification, Psionic enhancement and a couple of others that I have to keep a secret everyone’s safety." I looked up to the ceiling trying to remember if I got them all. I have so many odd passive Psionics that I don’t really remember them, they just are a part of my being, like the new energy that swirled around my insides from Nerissa’s blessing.
"Anyway, with that out of the way, I can’t really teach you guys anything in order to help me until I have the lab set up. So lets-" Once again, the chipmunk blurted out, interrupting me. "-Bullshit!" She then covered her mouth, accidentally saying what she was thinking instead of what she meant to say.
"I-I mean. You can’t expect us to actually believe you are so Psionically inclined right?... Right?" Yvonne then chimed in. "I know we don’t really need you to be strong or weak to teach us this topic, but come on? That much Psionic power within you? Wouldn’t you have, like? I don’t know? Blown up at some point?"
Hailey flinched and then jerked upright, not meaning for her sudden realisation to draw attention to herself. She knew Apollo never really lied. Left out fractions of the truth to protect his teacher? Sure, but he always spoke the truth.
However, even as he was listing things, Hailey only knew a few of those... Her files definitely needed updating after today, but that wasn’t important. Yvonne made a correct point with the blowing up part... He almost did. Well, his body couldn’t handle his current power and he needed to leave her...
’Ok, I have decided. No more playing the edge. He is my man, he will be my husband. No candidate any longer.’ Hailey thought to herself, though she had already knew this was months in the making and was simply making it official in her mind so she could chart her future even more seriously.
She also wasn’t being shallow, only going for Apollo’s power. it was actually because he was much stronger than she thought he was and yet, he was still this relaxed about it. She needed a man like that for all time by her side.
’ I am going to have to talk to aunty Kat then and renegotiate our agreement.’
...
"Look, all of that is irrelevant. I’m not doing a demonstration, I can only wait so long to begin unboxing everything. So let’s get to it already!" I declared and began moving my box.
The rest seemed fine with this, they would rather believe Apollo was lying, for ego sake, and got to opening crates.
Jason was still in thought going over what every Psionic ability he said was and what they could possibly mean from context, though one did leave him stumped. ’What’s chonk?’
...
The setting up of the lab took a lot longer than I had planned. Though that wasn’t a bad thing. While I was familiar with the main functions of the lab, some, Mithra, had questions.
What’s this? What’s that? Why does it go in there? etcetera. I didn’t have to answer of course, Leanna told me that I could treat these people like slaves if I really wanted to, but I didn’t want to do that, I already had one slave too many, well four actually, but only one I didn’t know I was enslaving at the time.
But these people were clearly interested in my work, it was only fair I explained it to them. So I did everything one at a time. I explained how the tanks were going to be filled with a liquid of ’my own creation’ called rejuvenation fluid. I explained how the tanks acted as a support system and aided enhancement success in the most basic of terms.
I explained how to run algorithms in the computers, what to look out for, what caused imbalancing. Althea and Jason looked right at home in the lab section. Setting up flasks and burners and a myriad of devices in the correct places before I even asked them to.
The only thing I didn’t understand was the machinery part of everything. I was quite simply reconstructing my lab at home with less flesh substances, but it clearly worked, as when I attempted to turn on the large wall wide mainframes and servers, they didn’t explode.
"Hold on a second everyone." I stated and walked over to the input part of the computer. ’Onyx. Help.’ I declared in my mind and my wonderful Stalker, who while not connected to the hive, had sufficient memory to start up the gene sequencing while also being smart enough to convert it into comprehensible jibber jabber that I could then translate and dumb down into less alien train of thought and more... Human.
"What are you doing Apollo?" Mithra asked, but I was locked in and couldn’t respond with my full attention. "Not now chipmunk, I can’t really teach you this right now. I am basically setting up the prerequisite algorithms for my work. Honestly everyone, I am going to be at this for a few hours. Please, head home and thank you for your hard work. I will have some sort of cursory lesson for you all the day after the first day of class."
"Are you sure Apollo?" Althea asked. She had just started feeling some normalcy. She was in a new lab set up and was actually learning some interesting things about the field without Apollo even explicitly stating anything. She had actually found herself enjoying lugging around heavy boxes, even with the traitor here.
"Yeah, I am sure. Again thank you." I said one more time and then locked in. I didn’t know if they left or if they were watching silently, all my attention was directed between Onyx and the input before me.
I wouldn’t need such a complex input for the stuff I was teaching them to help me out with, but for my other projects. I needed fast as all this junk could go. Onyx and I were cutting corners due to the primitivity of technology. Steel was limiting, the flesh was limitless.
I wasn’t even sure how long had passed, due to there being no windows and the lights above being the same steady white the whole time, but the mental exercise of transferring all of that data had me wiping sweat away from my forehead and leaving a decent sized puddle on my jacket sleeve.
Doing a test to make sure it worked. I activated the command to fire up the needles in the pod and it came up invalid. Which was a success and I had not installed the needles inside yet. I would do that once the fluid was done.
’Thank you my lovely Onyx. How can I repay you for all your hard work?’ I thought seductively. I was then overcome with a wave of emotions that almost made me put a hole in my pants before hearing a soft giggle.
’Come in here and let me ride you till morning. I cannot wait till the pulsar arrives!’ She replied back voraciously, but in actuality, she needed no reward. To appease her king, her universe was all the reward she needed.
I chuckled audibly and mumbled. "Hey, you have got yourself a de-Woah! Hey-Ah whatcha! *ahem* I mean. Hey Nerissa, have you been there long? I didn’t hear you come in."
Nerissa stood still before me a moment, her shoulders raising up and down hastily, yet composed. She was wearing her mask, but I could tell she had inverted her lips and was trying not to laugh at my... Vocal slip.
After an excruciatingly long thirty seconds, she finally spoke. "I arrived ten minutes ago. Orchid has been getting... Restless. Claiming she was coming over and retrieving you from this research building."
"Orchid said it like that?" I asked, unconvinced. "Well she said. ’I am going over there and killing everyone and everything that gets in my way. I want Apollo back now.’ But what she said doesn’t matter, it’s the fact I could tell she meant it. You need to come back, but when I arrived, I became mesmerised by your focus and did not wish to interrupt."
I chuckled off the compliment and got to the main issue. "Yeah, Orchid means almost everything she says, but she won’t act on it or I would get upset. And when I get upset she gets... Either way, best we go back, just in case."
I did a quick scan around making sure everything was in place before turning off the machine. "What were you doing that took you over sixteen hours?" She asked casually. "Six!- I was just setting up the main computer for the calculations and such. That took longer than I expected."
"Intriguing. Tell me more." Nerissa asked and I was just getting into it in a roundabout way, it was good practice for when the volunteers all ask. However, just as we took a few steps outside of the building, a figure lunged at me and planted themselves and my feet.
"Please! I’m sorry I missed today! You were at volunteer capacity when I got here! Please let me into your dispensation group. I will do anything!"
