Chapter 58: No response? (Thanks for Duffy3! )

Alex got shoved through the police station doors.

A voice called out.

Choked with tears.

"Alex..."

Lilian stood there.

White knit sweater. Jeans hugging her 99-69-101 curves.

Her face was streaked with tears. Eyes red and swollen. Lashes wet.

Her body was trembling as she cried.

Like a flower beaten by the storm.

Alex nodded.

Gave her a reassuring look.

The chief sat at his desk.

Already got the call.

Watched the uniformed officers drag Alex in.

Saw the furious Rex.

And Ethan in his wheelchair. Ass wrapped in bandages.

The chief stood.

"Rex. Ethan."

Smiled apologetically.

"Why’d you come all this way?"

Rex sneered.

"Had to."

Pointed at Alex.

"This animal went on a rampage at school!"

"Injured over a dozen students!"

"Look what he did to Ethan!"

Ethan sat in his wheelchair.

Face pale. Voice weak:

"Chief..."

"You have to help us..."

He wiped his eyes.

"I just couldn’t stand watching him bully girls..."

"Tried to stop him..."

"And then..."

His voice broke.

Rex continued:

"This psycho stabbed Ethan with an umbrella!"

"Force-fed my brother canned herring!"

"Threw a girl into a pile of vomit!"

"Chief, tell me!"

"What kind of person does that?!"

The chief flipped open a file.

Looked through it.

Security footage screenshots. Hospital reports. Witness statements.

Thick stack.

All "evidence" against Alex.

His brow furrowed.

"Take him to the interrogation room!"

Two officers dragged Alex in.

The chief followed.

Shut the door.

Kicked him.

Not hard. But made a show of it.

"Do you know what you’ve done?!"

Punched Alex’s shoulder.

"Hurting all those people!"

"Who do you think you are?!"

"I’ll investigate this thoroughly!"

Pointed at Alex’s nose.

"Get justice for Ethan!"

But his mind wandered.

Alex...

Why does that name sound familiar?

Outside.

Lilian stared at the interrogation room door.

Fingers clutching her clothes. Knuckles white.

She bit her lip.

Tears streaming down.

But made no sound.

Didn’t want to distract Alex.

Chest heaving. Breathing rapid.

She wanted to rush in.

Take those hits for him.

But her legs felt like lead.

Couldn’t move.

Could only stand there.

Shaking.

Watching helplessly.

Inside the interrogation room.

Alex sat cuffed to a chair.

Saw Lilian through the door crack.

The way she looked...

His heart clenched.

Hurt.

He could handle trouble.

Worst case, he’d run.

But seeing Lilian cry like that...

He suddenly regretted it.

Too impulsive.

Should’ve thought of another way.

At least...

Shouldn’t have made her worry like this.

Outside.

Rex sneered.

"Why bother interrogating?"

"Just beat the shit out of him!"

He stood.

"He caused this much damage!"

"Hurt this many important people!"

"He needs to pay!"

He waved his hand.

Blue light flashed.

A massive hawk appeared.

Wingspan three meters. Feathers like blades. Eyes vicious.

The hawk screeched.

Dove toward the interrogation room.

The chief rushed out.

"Rex!"

"This is a police station!"

"Don’t do this!"

He blocked the door.

"I don’t care what connections you have!"

Rex’s eyes went cold.

About to speak.

Lilian stepped forward.

Handed the chief a file.

Thick stack of papers.

"What’s this?"

The chief took it.

Opened it.

First page:

Ethan’s Bullying Records

Photos. Testimonies. List of victims.

Second page:

Rex’s Beast Assault Cases

Three unsolved. Two covered up.

Third page...

Fourth page...

Dozens of pages.

All dirt.

The chief’s face changed.

Eyes sharpened.

"Rex."

He looked up.

"How do you explain these?"

Rex’s face darkened.

"Bullshit!"

"Fake!"

Ethan smirked from his wheelchair.

Spoke weakly:

"Chief..."

"Our butler will be here soon."

Paused.

"You can talk to him."

A flash of triumph in his eyes.

"Oh, and..."

"He’s Rank 7."

The chief’s face froze.

Rank 7...

Someone who could level a town.

His hand trembled.

Shoved the file back in the drawer.

"Ahem..."

"I’ll... look into this more..."

Rex spun around.

Glared at Lilian.

Eyes venomous.

"Who the fuck are you?"

Stepped closer.

"How dare you investigate me?"

Lilian stepped back.

Face pale. Legs weak.

But she bit her lip.

Stood her ground.

Didn’t run.

Inside the interrogation room.

Alex saw this through the crack.

His heart clenched.

But why the system choice yet?!

Even the system doesn’t know what to do now?

Alex shut his eyes.

Spiritual power surged.

Connected to the token.

Wilson!

Mr. Wilson!

Answer me!

Silence in his mind.

No response.

Panic rising.

Tried hours ago!

Nothing!

What the hell is going on?!

Alex took a deep breath.

Called again.

I have new potions!

Stronger vine potions!

Two other amazing ones you’ve never seen!

Wilson!

Please!

Just answer!

Still nothing.

Dead silence.

The token like scrap metal.

Completely unresponsive.

Alex opened his eyes.

Sweat on his forehead.

His heart sank.

Shit.

Did something happen to him?

Or...

He just doesn’t give a damn anymore?

...

The station doors burst open.

Bob rushed in.

Behind him—

A burly middle-aged man.

Thick eyebrows. Solid build. Looked like he could eat a cow.

Alex searched his memories.

Bob’s father.

Rank 8 Beast Tamer.

Marcus.

Alex’s impression of him?

The guy could EAT.

Before the transmigration. Alex used to mooch meals at their place.

Him and Bob combined? Couldn’t match half of what Marcus ate alone.

Bob walked fast.

Explaining the situation to his dad.

Marcus’s brow furrowed deeper with each word.

"This is tricky."

He rubbed his chin.

"Alex fucked up by striking first."

Paused.

"Even if that Ethan kid was asking for it..."

"Still started the fight."

He frowned.

Thinking.

Looking for a solution.

Walked over to Lilian.

Talked with her quietly.

Asked a few questions.

Nodded.

Then turned to the chief.

"Chief."

His voice firm.

"Do your job."

"Don’t bow to power."

He straightened.

"My family will testify."

Then released his aura.

Rank 8.

The air pressure changed.

Windows rattled.

Officers stepped back.

"This matter..."

Marcus looked at the interrogation room.

"Alex apologizes."

"We can offer you some compensation."

"And we’re done."

"Fair?"

The chief exhaled.

Relief washing over him.

Opened his mouth—

"My, my."

A voice cut through.

Cold. Smooth. Mocking.

"Such authority."

Footsteps.

Slow. Deliberate.

"A Rank 8 Beast Tamer."

The voice dripped with sarcasm.

"How impressive."
