Chapter 013 Moving Forward

Bai Ye, seeing such an opportunity, would naturally not let it slip by. He immediately darted out, leaping up and stepping on the axe handle, then surged onto the axe-wielder. He pulled out his handgun and shoved it directly into the axe-wielder's mouth.

Bang, bang, bang, bang, bang…

The axe-wielder's head was much tougher than that of an ordinary zombie. Bai Ye continuously pulled the trigger until all the bullets were spent. Only then did the axe-wielder's head completely explode. The massive body toppled backward, crashing onto the ground with a bang.

Bai Ye wiped the gun barrel with his sleeve, then removed the magazine, loaded a new one, and approached the man who was barely clinging to life. He looked down at the wound – intestines had spilled out.

Bai Ye said, "Anything else you want to say?"

"Give me a ride…" the man gasped. "Put me out of my misery. Thank you."

Bai Ye nodded, aimed the handgun at the man's head, and said, "Farewell, and don't let the door hit you on the way out."

Bang!

Bai Ye pulled the trigger. A blood hole appeared on the man's head, and his body slowly slumped.

Bai Ye felt a touch of melancholy, not because the man had died, but because when the axe-wielder appeared, the man had actually told him to be careful.

Such a thing…

Only at the very beginning of the World Battlefield would something like this be possible. It brought back some memories for Bai Ye. After all, in the world ten years later, everyone had only one thing on their minds: kill others, snatch fragments of the God Stone, and then survive this damned place.

He put his gun back into its holster, took out a bag of nutrient paste, opened it, and put it in his mouth as he continued towards Area C.

The appearance of the axe-wielder wasn't necessarily a bad thing. For the Umbrella Corporation, despite being a failed product, the axe-wielder had mutated and was a highly valuable subject for reference.

In other words, before this base was destroyed by zombies due to the virus leak, the axe-wielder was likely held in the same area as the Tyrant, or at least in a similar one.

"So…" Bai Ye murmured. "If the axe-wielder appeared in Area C, then the area where the axe-wielder and the Tyrant were held might be near Area C?"

As he thought, Bai Ye recalled the general layout of the underground base.

The outer areas were those close to the entrance and exit. Then came Area A, which was actually a decoy. It wasn't used for virus research but operated as a normal biotechnology company, a contingency plan to pass off as legitimate if the base was discovered.

Area B was for zombie sample experiments – essentially, injecting viruses to create zombies and observe their reactions. Area C was for viral sample experiments. Based on the original virus, Umbrella Corporation had developed various viruses, most of which were failures or semi-finished products. The T-virus was the most complete and the closest to a perfect foundational virus.

Bai Ye thought as he looked at the directional signs, murmuring, "Going this way leads to the living quarters, the second passage is the entertainment area, and turning right is the dining area…"

Bai Ye tried his best to recall the structure of the Umbrella Corporation's underground base. More accurately, he was recalling areas he hadn't visited in his previous life. Those areas were likely where the Tyrant was held. Although the underground base was destroyed, and the Tyrant certainly couldn't be contained now, the areas surrounding its holding site would have a higher probability of finding the Tyrant.

Suddenly, an idea struck Bai Ye.

"Entertainment area?"

Since the underground base staff lived within the facility and couldn't leave freely, places like the entertainment area were necessary.

After all, even the donkeys in the production team needed a break. Working underground for extended periods without a place to release stress could lead to the researchers' emotional breakdown.

In his previous life, Bai Ye hadn't visited the entertainment area. Logically, that place would have entertainment facilities, unrelated to virus research. What could he find there?

But…

"As the saying goes, the least likely place is the most likely?"

Bai Ye muttered, thinking that since he didn't know where else to look for the Tyrant, he might as well try his luck.

Bai Ye acted on his thought immediately, changing direction and heading towards the entertainment area.

Upon entering the entertainment area, Bai Ye discovered it was quite elaborate.

Pool tables, poker, video games, a gym, a private cinema, indoor golf – it had everything. Most incredibly, it was equipped with ecological environment projections. Despite being underground, there were windows showing views of tall buildings.

Bai Ye remotely controlled the projection, and the environment shifted to a beach, with sand, palm trees, and bikini-clad beauties. Even the sound of the sea breeze was simulated.

Bai Ye felt that the designer of this ecological environment projection clearly understood what men wanted.

Bai Ye walked forward, thinking, and then…

Bai Ye suddenly stopped, his gaze falling to the side.

There was a tear in the sea!

The fake was always just fake. Everything around was a projection, and when the screen used for projection was damaged, the projected image would naturally have a tear.

The reason Bai Ye felt something was amiss was…

There was wind!

Behind the screen should be a wall. Why was there wind?

Wind indicated that there was space behind the screen, and airflow would create wind.

Bai Ye walked towards the tear and pulled the damaged screen forcefully to the side, then peered inside. His eyes lit up; indeed, there was space behind the screen.

Bai Ye stepped over the screen and slowly moved forward.

This space was somewhat dim. At the end, there was an old iron ladder. Stepping on it produced a "creak, creak" sound. Descending the ladder, Bai Ye saw many neatly arranged glass jars.

Beneath those glass jars were iron bases. Inside the glass jars was a green, viscous liquid. Some glass jars were broken, and the liquid had spilled all over the floor, thick and carrying a faint, foul odor.

Besides that, there were many corpses!

Licker corpses!

There were about ten Licker corpses. Bai Ye approached and examined them. He could see numerous wounds from sharp objects on their bodies. Of course, the fatal blow was a hole through the head.

It was evident that these Lickers had been killed by someone!

"So, this is where Umbrella Corporation's base manufactured Lickers?" Bai Ye frowned. "It seems someone got here before me."

Rumble!

As Bai Ye was thinking, a loud noise suddenly came from the ground beneath his feet, and the ground began to tremble continuously.
