Chapter 21 Ambush

"Hey!" Bai Ye said, "Where are those guys robbing you?"

Victor gasped, "Highway 403?"

Bai Ye asked, "After they rob, where do they escort the supplies to?"

Victor replied, "They have bases on both Highway 403 and 404, but their escort point should be the base at the end of Highway 404."

Bai Ye inquired curiously, "Reason?"

Victor explained, "The base on Highway 403 is near the city ruins, while the base on Highway 404 is at the end of the road. Calculating the distance from where they robbed us, the base at the end of Highway 404 is closer."

Bai Ye suddenly understood, "So that's how it is. This way, you can intercept from both ends, and if successful, send the goods to the closer base. Then, how long ago did they rob you?"

Victor answered, "Four or five hours ago. Why are you asking?"

Bai Ye stated, "Although I can't save you, I can help you fulfill your wish to kill those guys."

Victor paused, then exclaimed in surprise, "You're going after the Highway Knights? Are you crazy? You'll die!"

"That's my business," Bai Ye chuckled, raising his gun and aiming it at Victor, "Do you need my help?"

Victor gazed intently at Bai Ye, then said, "Please tell them I'll be waiting for them in hell."

"Alright!" Bai Ye pulled the trigger, "See you!"

As the gunshot echoed, Victor's body slumped backward, his head tilting to the side.

Bai Ye retrieved an oil barrel, siphoned the gasoline from the jeep, and poured it into his motorcycle. The last bit of fuel, Bai Ye poured onto Victor's corpse, then tossed a lighter and flicked it.

The jeep quickly erupted into flames.

Amidst the inferno, Bai Ye mounted his motorcycle and rode back towards the highway.

Four or five hours ago…

Bai Ye wasn't entirely sure if he could catch up to the Highway Knights, but since a mission had suddenly appeared, it was surely meant to be completed. After all, impossible missions didn't exist, so it was all about whether Bai Ye could seize the opportunity.

Bai Ye didn't overthink it. Missions were a matter of doing one's best and leaving the rest to fate; sometimes, luck played a significant role.

And this time…

Bai Ye's luck seemed to be quite good!

As he traversed the Red Rock Mountain area and before returning to the highway, Bai Ye spotted a convoy on the road from a distance.

The convoy wasn't large; in fact, calling it a convoy was an overstatement, as there were only three vehicles. However, these vehicles had undergone terrifying modifications.

Leading the pack was a pickup truck with its doors removed. Two massive metal scythes were mounted on its rear, and a Gatling gun was added to its roof. The front bumper was reinforced with two layers, appearing incredibly sturdy.

The second vehicle was a bizarre creation, with the shells of two cars welded together. It sported enormous tires, one person tall, and its front shell was hollowed out with the engine exposed. Four blades, each at least as thick as an adult's arm, were welded to the front. Getting hit by this would undoubtedly result in total destruction and death, with no other outcome.

But the most terrifying was the third vehicle. Those guys had somehow procured tank tracks, used discarded car bodies as shells, and combined them with eight tires on each side. The armament on its roof was formidable, with machine guns mounted at each of the four corners.

Additionally, the front and rear of the vehicle were equipped with gear-like saw blades that splayed outwards. The front bumper had been thickened and even fitted with giant conical spikes, each as thick as an adult's thigh.

Only the Highway Knights, led by the Undead, possessed vehicles like these.

The journey of four to five hours had allowed him to catch up. They must have been delayed by something or stopped for rest along the way.

However, the reason for the delay was irrelevant to Bai Ye. What mattered was that he had found his targets.

Bai Ye curved his lips and then accelerated fiercely, traversing the desert rapidly. Soon, he had outdistanced the three vehicles.

After about half an hour, Bai Ye had the three vehicles far behind him. He then stopped his motorcycle, first placing the Frost Sword in the middle of the road, then riding his motorcycle away to hide behind some large rocks in the desert.

Bai Ye knelt on the ground, took the bipod and high-magnification scope from his gun case, and attached them to his Aug assault rifle. He then propped himself up on the ground, setting up his rifle.

The enemy vehicles were violently modified, covered in weapons top to bottom. Bai Ye, with only an old motorcycle, would be suicidal if he charged in directly. To take them down, he needed to set up an ambush and force their vehicles to stop.

Using the high-magnification scope, he scanned the road. The three vehicles were slower than expected; he couldn't see any sign of them yet.

"Since I'm waiting anyway…" Bai Ye suddenly remembered he had one gacha roll left for the day. Since he needed to wait, he might as well pull a gacha. "Let's do one pull."

The gacha machine appeared beside Bai Ye. With the whirring sound of the machine, a large gacha ball rolled out.

Looking at the gacha ball, Bai Ye blinked slightly. It was black.

Gacha ball grades were distinguished by color, progressing from white, green, blue, black, red, and finally, gold.

White, green, and blue were considered low-grade gacha balls. From black onwards, they were considered high-grade.

This was because the items produced from gacha balls, starting with black, represented a qualitative leap.

"Indeed, is this my turn for luck? After so many unlucky moments, things are bound to get better."

Bai Ye thought this as he twisted open the black gacha ball.

Yin Yang Reversal: An exquisite move from the supreme martial art, Tai Chi. It utilizes the body's Yin and Yang energy to create a vortex around the body. This vortex can absorb surrounding projectiles, and after a maximum of nine seconds, it can expel the absorbed items with the vortex.

Good heavens, it was a martial art move!

From the literal meaning, it seemed to be about absorbing attacks and then reflecting them, but the actual effect would only be known upon use.

However, it was a black gacha ball. Based on Bai Ye's experience from his previous life, from black gacha balls onwards, the only difference was whether it was a good draw or a bad draw. For example, the cursed "Try Again" slips had brought him to tears.

But in terms of power, there was almost no doubt. Items from black gacha balls onwards were all good.

And at this moment…

The sound of engines echoed from afar.

Bai Ye quickly used the high-magnification scope to observe the road.

The three Highway Knight vehicles…

Had arrived!
