The car stopped at the entrance of the resort.
A wooden plaque bore several characters, Jin Mao Resort.
"Gu Qing, drive in. I'll tell you the way."
Jin Mao Resort was a hot spring resort. As they drove further in, they saw many zombies, some in swimsuits and others naked, wandering around.
Gu Qing felt his eyes burn.
Could you imagine a horde of naked zombies with bulging eyes, rolling eyeballs, and bared teeth?
The RV wound its way along the main road. The once lush forest had become bare and desolate. There were many hot spring pools around, some small, some large.
Inside the pools, many zombies in swimsuits walked back and forth. The water in the pools had turned a dark, bloody red.
Gu Qing felt a wave of nausea, a urge to vomit.
The bread he had eaten that morning had not yet been digested.
The RV passed a blue swimming pool with slides, swings, and climbing structures for recreation.
Children, now zombies, half-naked, drifted in the bloody water.
They were of varying heights, all no older than 10 years old.
The pool steps prevented these zombies from ever climbing out.
"Alas, how pathetic."
Passing through the hot spring area, they entered the villa district. Rows of houses stood there, in Japanese, European, Thai, modern, and American styles. One could imagine how beautiful this resort must have been before the apocalypse.
Mei Yuebai curled her lips and leaned towards Xu Qian, whispering, "Pick one. We'll stay here for the night."
She shot Mei Yuebai a glare. "Are there not enough zombies outside? Are you itching for trouble?"
"Gu Qing, slow down."
Xu Qian squinted as she looked at the house numbers.
Number 306 was a traditional building. Although she had been there in her past life, it had been a long time, and she had forgotten much.
"Stop. Get out of the car. This is it."
She pulled open the door and leaped out.
She remembered that in her past life, the couple here had been unwilling to leave. Jiang Shuo had tried to persuade them for a long time, mainly because the man was a stubborn old fellow.
One sentence she remembered clearly was that the food in his room was enough for him to survive there for a year.
Xu Qian raised her hand and pressed the doorbell.
A rustling sound came from the doorbell, followed by a muffled voice.
"Who are you?"
She calmly faced the camera. "I am from the base, sent to rescue you."
Pei Yuan looked at the little girl on the screen. "Base? What base?"
"The Rescue Hope Base established by the government, located in the suburbs."
"Oh, thank you. But I don't need rescuing. You should leave."
With a "snap," the call was directly hung up.
Xu Qian froze. She remembered that in her past life, Jiang Shuo had directly kicked the door open, but he hadn't been as polite as she was.
Gu Qing was amused by the situation.
"How can there be people like this? They don't want to be saved."
Mei Yuebai's expression turned cold. "Just kick the door open. Throw them into the car and take them back. As long as we complete the mission, that's all that matters."
She had also considered forcing the lock, but not as extreme as he imagined. The two people inside were investors in the future base, and they needed to be handled with care.
"You two, be polite to the people inside. They have special identities, understand?"
The two showed displeasure but nodded obediently.
She took out a small clip and bent down to pick the lock.
With a "click," the door opened.
Xu Qian pulled the door open, and suddenly, a zombie lunged at her.
She hadn't expected a zombie to be inside. Her knife hadn't been drawn in time. She kicked out, sending the zombie tumbling to the ground.
Xu Qian drew the knife from her back and was about to finish it off.
"Don't kill it!"
