Lian Du’s face turned completely black. This woman was shameless, yet he liked her.
He would endure it.
"Come here."
Xu Qian’s lips curved slightly as she continued, "Let them go."
Lian Du gestured, clearing a path.
With a thought, an SUV appeared before them.
Xu Qian said sternly, "Get in, go!"
The two of them froze.
"Listen to me!"
Suddenly, Xu Lü hugged her tightly and whispered, "Sister, be careful. I’ll be back to save you soon."
"Okay."
Lian Du’s temples throbbed wildly. He roared, "Let go of her, now!"
Xu Qian patted the young man’s back, signaling him to release her.
Xu Lü obediently let go and turned to get into the car.
Xie Yanyun said softly, "Xiao Qian, be careful."
"Don't worry."
After the car drove away, the young woman slowly walked towards the man.
She trusted Xu Lü’s driving skills. With a car, he could definitely escape.
Xu Qian stayed here for Yi Chun. She had entered the base because of her and couldn’t be ungrateful.
The man frowned and turned his head away, clearly upset about something.
"Lian Du, I came willingly. Why are you still angry?"
Lian Du glanced at her and asked, "Who was that man just now?"
Xu Qian mirrored him, crossing her arms. She tilted her head slightly and said, "Guess?"
Lian Du gritted his teeth, stepped forward, and swept the young woman into his arms.
"I won't guess. In any case, you'll only be by my side from now on."
The young woman leaned obediently against his shoulder and said softly, "Oh? Aren't you supposed to hand me over?"
The man paused, then continued walking.
"Why do you care? I'll do as I please."
The young woman lowered her gaze and smiled, "You're not going to be reluctant this time, are you?"
Lian Du’s mouth twitched. He said coldly, "Xu Qian, do you really think you're that important?"
"You're far too confident."
The smile in the young woman's eyes deepened. She hummed softly.
"Mhm, I'm not important at all."
Lian Du raised his chin slightly and gave a cold grunt.
The man carried the young woman through the piles of corpses and through the stone gate guarded by mutated lizards, entering a small world.
The plaza was vast, with countless white-robed lab personnel moving between the experimental buildings.
They were ignored.
The men in black behind them looked bewildered.
Boss, weren't we supposed to lock her up? You're going the wrong way!
A subordinate approached them and reminded them, "Young Master Lian, we're supposed to lock her in the highest-level dungeon."
Lian Du cast a calm glance at him, and the subordinate immediately shut up, not daring to speak.
Xu Qian squinted, nestled in his arms like a kitten.
"Lian Du, it's fine. I'm willing to go to the dungeon."
"Shut up."
Did she even know what the highest-level dungeon was?
It was not a place for humans.
"I'll guard her personally. You can go."
The subordinate was about to retort, but Lian Du said coldly, "I will explain to Hui Feichi myself."
"...Yes."
Lian Du carried her through the base, winding through countless turns. Xu Qian became disoriented. Finally, he stopped in front of the door of a perfectly ordinary room.
All the way, he had never put her down, not even once, and he wasn't out of breath.
He was perfectly steady.
Lian Du turned on the light with one hand. The harsh glare shot into Xu Qian's eyes, and she squinted, peering inside.
It was a very simple office, with a desk, a large sofa, a coffee table, and a guest room next door.
The man carefully placed the young woman on the sofa.
He crouched down and looked up at her.
For a moment, neither of them spoke.
They weren't actually familiar with each other. Their previous encounters had always involved games of chase and evasion. Meeting like this felt… strange.
