Chapter 624: 557 The Frank President’s wife
"I think anyone would find it unbearable!"
Song Jing said, his face flushing red.
His heart was anything but calm, his gaze landing on the last row of the visitor’s gallery.
"Mr. President, since you’re here as well, please speak a word of justice for me! Is the law of our country G truly only a tool for the aristocracy, for high-ranking officials and nobility, for the wealthy and powerful?"
"Is a common person like me, with parents who are also just ordinary people, merely a lamb to be slaughtered?"
Song Jing finished querying, and tears followed, streaming down his face,
"Zhongli Wuzhi can intentionally injure people, Lu Xiaoer can distort right from wrong, and I am supposed to suffer in silence? What kind of reasoning is this? What kind of society is this?"
"Where is justice, fairness, and equity? Mr. President, please tell me!"
"The defendant, and unrelated personnel, you do not have the right to inquire or communicate."
The judge reminded him.
When Song Jing directly targeted Wen Nian, everyone on the referee’s bench shivered inwardly.
"I feel this is unfair, so I don’t even have the right to speak out? Mr. President is right here, why is he here? Is it to show favoritism to the second son of the Zhongli Family and the darling daughter of the Lu Family?"
"Mr. President!"
Song Jing called Mr. President over and over, leaving his parents in tears and snot.
When the President and his wife arrived, they thought they were here for Zhongli Wuzhi and Lu Xiaoer, but hearing their son questioning Mr. President in such a way, the Song family parents thought the couple’s visit might actually be a good opportunity.
"Defendant, please watch your attitude!"
The judge became distressed and could only sternly warn Song Jing again and again.
With Song Jing interrogating him repeatedly, Wen Nian just sat tranquilly in his seat, seemingly... without any intention of getting up.
Song Lili pursed her lips, thinking to herself,
I knew inviting Wen Nian along would bring inconveniences.
Song Jing wants Wen Nian to speak, but Wen Nian is not a judge, he’s the President; every word he says represents the justice of our country, the fairness of our society.
"I’ll do it."
Song Lili whispered to Wen Nian.
Wen Nian nodded with a slight smile, as if he was quite happy to let her take the blame for him.
Clearly, for Wen Nian, Song Jing’s series of seemingly righteous queries didn’t really matter.
Just as everyone was holding their breath, waiting for Mr. President’s response, Song Lili stood up,
"Your questions are really low-level, it’s beneath my husband to address such issues. You truly don’t deserve that."
No one expected Song Lili to come forward with a cold remark.
"What justice, fairness, equality? The law of this country was executed in the two-hour court hearing before us; justice, fairness, and equity are clear to all present."
"If the judge’s decision is unjust, I believe it’s not only you who would question it, but also our people."
Song Lili’s almond-shaped eyes stared straight at Song Jing,
"You claim to be a young and successful surgeon with a promising future, something few doctors have achieved at your age! But from what I hear, you are just a petty person drawn to revenge against society after a setback."
"You keep saying Zhongli Wuzhi deliberately harmed you; you should sue Zhongli Wuzhi! Why didn’t you speak out when you were injured and instead use it as a pretext to harm someone else?"
"You say G country’s law is the law of the aristocracy, do you realize how many legal professionals you insult with such a statement, those who work hard for society, for the people?"
"You don’t trust the law to bring you justice, so you retaliate in secret. After your revenge, now you question the law?"
"You ask me what kind of society this is, I can tell you, this is the society the people of G country want, an ever-improving society."
"But this society has no place for people like you."
"When evil thoughts arise in one’s mind, and they act out of pure malice, harming innocent people, they do not deserve forgiveness. The law will surely punish them."
Song Lili spoke with ringing clarity.
Her voice echoed through the courtroom, invigorating those who heard.
"Mrs. President, so the harm caused by Zhongli Wuzhi, the injury to my hand, my partial disability, all these are unimportant? The crimes he committed are not crimes?"
Song Jing’s eyes were reddened with fervor.
"Today’s court trial is about your attempted sexual assault on Lu Xiaoer, so the judge’s decision today pertains to the harm you caused Lu Xiaoer. Your non-sensical, defiant, and heinous behavior during the trial is there for all to see."
"As for the harm Zhongli Wuzhi did to you being a crime or not, that should be addressed by your suing Zhongli Wuzhi and providing evidence against him. Do you understand?"
"The court is a place where one calls a spade a spade; discussing matters based on facts is a fundamental principle. Your confusing and nonsensical arguments, I don’t see the composure expected from an educated professional."
"My apologies to the judge for the interruption, the opinions I’ve stated represent only me personally, not the President, not the government. I’m just a friend of Lu Xiaoer; I’ve personally witnessed her injured and bedridden, so frail it was unrecognizable. And I’ve felt the enormous shadow your actions have cast over her!"
"Song Jing, no matter how many reasons you have, none suffice to justify harming an innocent girl."
After speaking, Song Lili took her seat.
Her gaze was resolute; the comments she’d just made were not the sort of diplomatically neutral, non-offensive statements typical for a first lady, which would have shown consideration to all parties involved and remain moderate at least.
But it was precisely her forceful, clear-cut stance that seemed to resonate with the people and brought down-to-earth vibes from the first lady.
Lu Xiaoer looked at Song Lili... her eyes brimming with tears, feeling warmth...
Her dear friend, never one to simply offer niceties because she was the first lady.
Under normal circumstances, she should have spoken in diplomatic generalities to avoid her words being twisted by others.
But she didn’t; she pointed directly at Song Jing’s wrongdoings—her words wouldn’t just fail to reduce his sentence but even suggested a harsher judgement from the judge!
Song Lili caught Lu Xiaoer’s gaze; her face, cold just a second before, softened, offering Lu Xiaoer a warm smile as a sign not to worry too much.
Such a look made Lu Xiaoer’s heart ache...
"The court will recess for twenty minutes, after which the judgement will be announced."
