Chapter 40: Super Mutant 1

Chapter 40: Chapter 40: Super Mutant 1

Five armored helicopters, which Su Ziyu couldn’t identify the models of, appeared in the sky.

Several combat personnel were rapidly descending. They seemed well-equipped, swift in movement, occupying various vantage points in no time. The helicopter-mounted heavy machine guns provided fire suppression, and one of the armored helicopters seemed to be equipped with missiles. It aimed at the super mutant in front and immediately launched a ground missile.

Boom!

The shockwave from the explosion shook the metal signs off the building next to Su Ziyu, but before he could dodge, Pasha raised her arm and lightly waved, sweeping the metal signs away.

"Heavy firepower!"

"Use grenade launchers! Use anti-tank missiles! Don’t fucking use guns! Guns won’t kill this monster!" Not far away, Leon plopped down on the ground, dismantling his arm while shouting.

Click.

With a light sound, Leon took off part of his arm, revealing bionic organs at the shoulder, though he didn’t seem entirely prosthetic; the exposed chest area was still flesh and blood. He retrieved a special metal syringe from his waist and directly inserted it into his neck.

"Brother! Come over and give me a hand!" Leon stood awkwardly, walking with a limp.

Boom!

Boom!

Just as he spoke, a black silhouette suddenly darted out from the flames of the missile explosion not far away. The super mutant seemingly underwent some changes; the flesh on its body surface squirmed non-stop, its upper body swelling grotesquely. Soon, six thick tentacles coiled around a fallen stone and hurled it at the armored helicopter in the sky.

A shocking sound pierced the air.

Then came a loud bang, accompanied by the fire of the explosion, causing the helicopter’s rotor to fail. It wobbled, struggling in the sky before crashing to the ground, with the people aboard practically dead.

"Disperse!"

"Spread out!"

This incident startled the nearby armored helicopters into distancing themselves. However, the monster remained relentless, leaping up onto a nearly six-meter-high wall with unexpected agility for its massive body. It’s unclear where such a sizable creature gained such strong jumping ability. Its body had undergone further radiation mutations, appearing almost inhuman, resembling a humanoid octopus. Swollen fleshy organs emerged on its surface, and the flesh tissue rapidly proliferated and split.

"Alert! Alert!"

"Legendary Level flesh-corrupting organism detected! Source of mental pollution identified! Issuing purge mission!"

"Mission objective: Eliminate the Legendary Level flesh-corrupting organism!"

"Mission reward: Authority Level upgrade! Unlock ability related to flesh enhancement!"

A stream of data suddenly transmitted some information.

But just as Su Ziyu was about to react, the super mutant charged at a soldier clad in exoskeleton power armor. The soldier remained quite calm, continuously firing his firearm while retreating to maintain distance.

However.

As they closed in on each other, the super mutant suddenly flung out three tentacles, directly grabbing hold of the exoskeleton power armor’s limbs.

A momentary burst of remarkable brute force ensued.

Even the hard concrete surface bore distinct scratches, but the soldier in exoskeleton power armor was still dragged over involuntarily by the tentacles.

A gaping maw emerged on the super mutant’s torso.

Click!

The monster bit the soldier in half, along with the exoskeleton armor. Simultaneously, on its forehead, shoulder, arm, and palm, ink-green eyeballs emerged amidst the squirming flesh, blurting incomprehensible, eerie murmurs that resonated in everyone’s mind despite all efforts to block them.

"Alert! Alert!"

"Profane Words detected!"

Su Ziyu didn’t know what others were hearing at the moment, but he was now hearing the sound he despised the most—the fingernails scraping the styrofoam-like sound. Whenever he heard it before, it would give him goosebumps all over, making his spirit agitated and restless.

The missile attack wasn’t entirely ineffective; one of the monster’s arms had actually been blown apart, exposing white bones. However, the wounds were swiftly recovering with the incessant squirming of flesh.

"Fire suppression!"

"Aim ground missiles at the target!"

Missiles after missiles were fired continuously.

The super mutant seemed to have grown smarter from the earlier attack, knowing to crash through the building nearby. Amid the deafening explosion, the entire house collapsed, but within seconds, the monster stood again amidst the rubble. Its entire head was mangled, yet quickly healed into clusters of menacing small fleshy bumps. These seemed to harbor something, sprouting strands of tiny tentacles resembling hair, looking chilling at a glance.

"It’s mutating non-stop!" Zoe gulped, speaking with a slightly trembling voice.

Indeed.

The monster was continuously mutating; starting off resembling a radiation giant, it had now transformed into a ghostly form. Its various body parts warped through bizarre radiation mutations, even its feet sprouting dark-green sucker-like creepy organs, making onlookers feel severely oppressed.

The battle grew increasingly fierce.

Fortunately, the Brotherhood’s firepower was incredibly formidable; though immensely powerful, the monster continued being suppressed, with more evident injuries and its bizarre mutated organs fragmented.

No matter how formidable it was.

In the end, it was merely a heap of flesh and blood life; with enough firepower, a way would be found to kill it.

"Watch out!" Pasha’s voice echoed.

No one knew when.

The presence of some Living Corpse Ghosts emerged nearby, surging out of the sewers and trash heaps, quickly encircling the Brotherhood’s reinforcements, launching attacks on those clad in exoskeleton power armor. This stirred up chaos within the already suppressive firepower net against the super mutant; the monster took advantage of the chaos and rushed into the residential area, with many attacks falling into nearby buildings.

The situation quickly turned into a chaotic battle.

Yet luckily, though the ground combat personnel lost their target, the armored helicopters overhead remained firmly locked onto the monster’s position.

"Let’s go."

"Get to that tall building," Su Ziyu decisively instructed.

He carried the BTL82M up to the rooftop, then said to Pasha beside him, "Cover me."

After speaking, he seemingly dazed for a second or two, before skillfully setting up the anti-material sniper rifle, aiming at a Living Corpse Ghost directly ahead.

Boom!

A slight dust cloud arose alongside the deep sound of gunfire, and the Living Corpse Ghost had its head blasted off with a single shot, leaving only a twitching, headless corpse.

—"Firearms Mastery LV1."

With extraordinary calmness, Su Ziyu swapped ammunition, aimed again at a Living Corpse Ghost on his right. Next to him were Pasha and Zoe, clad in exoskeleton power armor, vigilantly watching around to prevent any monsters from coming up.
