Chapter 110: Chapter 27: City of Freedom 1

This is no joke.

In the past, there was no shortage of demon hunters who died at the hands of monsters because they were poor. The magic potions they needed to use were expensive, and their equipment would wear out and need replacing or repairing.

Sometimes, after a task, demon hunters might not earn any money at all.

As for those demon hunters who helped without asking for any task rewards, they had already died completely. Without enough money to prepare magic potion equipment, they would eventually die at the hands of a monster.

Why does Van Helsing live longer than other demon hunters?

On one hand, his strength is strong enough, on the other hand, he is very stingy when it comes to tasks, haggling over every penny, and sometimes demanding extra payment.

"You’ll always get injured at some point."

Van Helsing took out a dagger, cutting apart the corpse of the Thorn Demon Tree, looking for some usable materials inside, and taught in a low voice: "If one day you’re hunting a monster and get injured, and you don’t have much money on you."

"What will you do then?"

"To deal with such a monster, a bottle of alchemy fire oil is enough."

"It’s actually quite clumsy. As long as you watch out for its spouting venom, it’s not too hard to handle."

While Van Helsing was teaching Melissa, Su Ziyu was also observing the surroundings.

He wiped the lipstick from the corner of his mouth, signaling to Lady Judy not to follow any further. This female warlock was just too enthusiastic; she hugged and kissed him when he wasn’t paying attention.

Su Ziyu discovered some bones.

They were killed with a dagger a long time ago, and nothing particularly special was found nearby, only a rather damaged voodoo doll. This made Su Ziyu feel somewhat disappointed because he had always had a suspicion in his heart, which was that the acquisition of Divinity Value might not be directly related to the strength of the monster.

Of course, monsters with Divinity Value would certainly be much stronger.

But strong monsters don’t necessarily have Divinity Value, and the existence of Divinity Value seems to be related to Evil God rituals.

Unfortunately, there has been no chance to verify these.

Compared to the Southern Continent dominated by the Human Kingdom, the chaotic Northern Continent has more diverse faiths, some of which fall into the category of profane worship.

There have been living blood sacrifices here.

But it’s been so long that no clues have been found at all, and that broken voodoo doll is just an ornament.

Among the islanders and natives of the Northern Continent, there are Divine Spirits they each believe in, some of which are rather terrifying monsters in legends. Su Ziyu came here partly because there are more monsters on the Northern Continent, and partly because the beliefs here are very chaotic, maybe he could encounter the type of monster, like the one the Ghost-faced Monkey worshipped, which wasn’t very strong but had Divinity Value.

From what I see so far.

There are indeed quite a few elements of profane worship here, and there has been a tradition of living sacrifices in the past.

"Let’s go," Van Helsing’s voice came.

The monster here has been settled.

Not finding any issues for now, Su Ziyu didn’t feel like wasting too much time here.

Adson’s reward to them indeed had a Druid flavor. From his worn robe, you knew he didn’t have much money, so the reward he provided was some herbal concoctions refined by Druids, five quite fragrant berries, plus a rather unique acorn.

"Quirky Object: Berry."

"Function: A fruit cultivated by Druids, can be preserved for a long time, contains the power of nature, restores a small amount of life force when consumed."

"Quirky Object: Acorn."

"Function: A fruit from the oak tree served by Druids, consuming it can slightly restore part of one’s state."

The reward he gave was better than nothing.

But the purpose of Su Ziyu and his group’s task this time wasn’t for money, it was more to give Melissa a chance to practice. Being able to get Source Power Value was already an extra surprise.

After completing the task, the Druid bid farewell and left.

People like him don’t like to socialize with outsiders; they usually keep to themselves outside human society. This Druid only invited Su Ziyu to visit a place called the "Ring of Nature" sometime when he has the chance.

When the group returned to the camp, it was already early morning.

No troubles were encountered here, and they continued their journey to the City of Freedom after dawn.

Because they didn’t rest much last night, Lady Judy enthusiastically invited Su Ziyu to nap in her carriage, but Su Ziyu sternly refused.

The daytime journey was relatively peaceful.

If there was anything special, it was that they encountered a Green Dragon.

The female warlocks were a bit excited and scared, as many were seeing a dragon for the first time.

But Su Ziyu and Van Helsing were rather calm, because instead of a Green Dragon, this monster was more like a winged dragon lizard.

Its skin was gray-green, without dragon scales, only a layer of tough skin, sized about half as big as a warhorse. Like the Flying Dragon Su Ziyu had taken down before, it only had strong hind limbs, and the forelimbs were attached to the wings. In other worlds, such a creature might just be a common Sub-dragon species, belonging to the Pterosaur category.

When Van Helsing was young, he hunted such Green Dragons with others; they did lose a couple of people back then.

This Green Dragon flew over their heads.

It startled the horses in the team, but seeing so many people, the Green Dragon didn’t attack and just flew over their heads.

These Green Dragons have little intelligence, barely smarter than a wild beast.

"I didn’t expect there to be dragons here," Nicole the female warlock said with a mixture of fear and excitement, following closely behind Su Ziyu.

The Female Sorcerer Mutual Aid Association members were relatively young.

Many of them only operated around Lund, and apart from having mana, they were much like ordinary women in this world. The warlocks of the past had the Academy for guidance and occasionally intervened in wars between kingdoms, but nowadays most warlocks live reclusively and hide their identities.

"Lord Su, have you hunted dragons before?" Nicole asked curiously.

Hearing her question, Judy and Mira beside them perked up their ears, looking quite curious.

"I took down one before," Su Ziyu replied casually while drinking water, "a bit bigger than this, but not too hard to handle."

He was still quite modest.

The Flying Dragons from the previous world were more than three times the size of this Green Dragon, and could probably bite this Green Dragon half to death in one go, but was still taken down by his one shot.

"Wow! Amazing! Truly worthy of Lord Su!" Nicole said with a face full of admiration.

Beside her, Melissa couldn’t help but pucker her lips and muttered, "Such a show-off!"

Since coming to the Northern Continent, the female warlocks led by Judy, Nicole, and Mira have often clung to Su Ziyu; many people have noticed this issue. However, Lady Inid seemed not to care, and Alice didn’t intentionally stop them from approaching Su Ziyu either.

These people were merely lacking a sense of security, trying hard to win over and please Su Ziyu.
