Chapter 3 The CEO's Cannon Fodder Original Wife

Chen Yu, standing by, felt quite happy upon hearing about the canceled engagement between the Song and Shen families.

She had been dating Shen Yi’an for a long time, and the Shen family was aware of their relationship. However, because her family background was ordinary and could not be of assistance to the Shen family, members of the Shen family had always disliked her.

Song Jia Ran, with her privileged family background, was highly valued by the Shen family. Chen Yu deeply resented Song Jia Ran because no matter how hard she tried, she could never gain the recognition and affection of the Shen family.

When the Shen family's company encountered difficulties and they sought to resolve them through an arranged marriage, Shen Yi’an was initially unwilling. However, he was later persuaded by Shen Zhe Xiong and agreed to the union.

Afterward, Shen Yi’an comforted Chen Yu, telling her that she was the woman he loved most. He promised that after the marriage alliance with the Song family resolved the company's issues, he would immediately divorce Song Jia Ran. He claimed to have no feelings for Song Jia Ran, only using her.

Chen Yu was saddened by the engagement for a long time before Shen Yi’an’s sweet words appeased her, and she agreed to their plan.

Shen Yi’an had not expected the Song family to be so resolute in canceling the engagement. He felt a fleeting sense of loss but quickly dismissed it, not dwelling on it.

“Dad, if it’s canceled, it’s canceled. We’ll find other ways to solve the company’s funding issues,” Shen Yi’an said dismissively.

“If there were other ways, would I have been so eager to hitch ourselves to the Song family?” Shen Zhe Xiong retorted. He then looked at Chen Yu with increasing annoyance. It was all because of this woman that Shen Yi’an had become infatuated and ruined today’s engagement. He pointed at Chen Yu fiercely and said, “And this woman, you should break up with her quickly. She’s useless and only causes trouble.”

Shen Zhe Xiong’s words instantly turned Chen Yu’s face ashen. She felt immensely heartbroken, her eyes welling up with tears, but she forced herself not to let them fall.

Shen Yi’an quickly pulled Chen Yu into his embrace and said to Shen Zhe Xiong, “Dad, Chen Yu is the one I love most. I won’t give her up. This engagement alliance is canceled, so be it. From now on, I will only marry Chen Yu.”

After speaking, Shen Yi’an left with Chen Yu. Leaning in his arms, Chen Yu thought, although the Shen family disliked her, Shen Yi’an loved her deeply. As long as she held onto Shen Yi’an’s heart firmly, she would marry into the Shen family one day.

Regarding the company's current predicament, Chen Yu firmly believed that someone as capable as Shen Yi’an could surely resolve it, without needing an arranged marriage.

Shen Yi’an’s attitude enraged Shen Zhe Xiong to the point of sputtering, “Look at the good son you’ve raised. He won’t even listen to me for a woman.”

Gao Mei Ying also harbored a deep aversion to Chen Yu. However, since Shen Zhe Xiong was berating her son, Gao Mei Ying felt indignant. Yet, she dared not express her anger towards Shen Zhe Xiong, so she could only try to placate him, “Don’t worry, I’ll find time to have a good talk with our son.”

With the engagement between the Song and Shen families resolved, Father Song, Mother Song, and Yue Qing returned home.

Yue Qing thought about staying away from Shen Yi’an from now on. Her priority would be to take good care of Father and Mother Song and manage the Song family’s company.

These tasks were not difficult for Yue Qing. In her previous world, Yue Qing was born into a family of traditional Chinese medicine practitioners and had studied medicine with her grandfather since childhood. Her family also owned a pharmaceutical company, and she had been groomed by her grandfather to be his successor. Thus, she had experience in managing a company.

Therefore, the task in this world was not too challenging for Yue Qing.

The area where the Song family resided was a district where wealthy families of Yan City gathered. Land prices were exorbitant, and the houses in this area were all in a European classical architectural style. Although their designs varied, they all exuded a refined and elegant aesthetic.

The interior of the Song family’s home was decorated warmly, indicating that Father and Mother Song were gentle and kind individuals.

After returning home, Father and Mother Song comforted Yue Qing further. Seeing that their daughter was no longer upset, they urged her to return to her room to rest.

Yue Qing returned to Song Jia Ran’s room and surveyed it. The room was simple and elegant, a style Yue Qing favored.

Yue Qing stood in front of the mirror, carefully examining the original host’s appearance. The original host, Song Jia Ran, was of delicate beauty, inheriting the good looks of Father and Mother Song. She had a pair of bright, clear eyes that sparkled like stars, raven-black hair, fair skin, and rosy lips, all contributing to Song Jia Ran’s beautiful appearance.

After admiring Song Jia Ran’s appearance, Yue Qing took a bath and lay on the bed in her room, gazing at the ceiling and contemplating the words of the system, Xiao Jiu. Xiao Jiu had said that upon completing a mission, she could choose to leave this world and move on to the next, or she could choose to stay in this world until old age and natural death, at which point she would automatically depart.

Being able to have a new beginning after death was something Yue Qing cherished. At the same time, Yue Qing had promised the original host, Song Jia Ran, that she would take good care of her parents, and Yue Qing intended to uphold this responsibility.

In her original world, Yue Qing’s parents had both passed away, and she had been raised by her grandfather. She had never experienced parental affection, which was a regret for Yue Qing. Now, Father and Mother Song provided Yue Qing with warmth and love, and Yue Qing would treat them with sincerity.

After her contemplation, Yue Qing wished to understand the system better. “Xiao Jiu, what kind of worlds will I go to in the future?”

“Host, I don’t know either. The mission worlds are random. However, the world you are in now is considered peaceful and safe,” Xiao Jiu replied.

“So, you mean I will go to dangerous worlds in the future, and I myself will encounter danger?” Yue Qing asked.

“Yes, Host,” Xiao Jiu confirmed.

“Then, can you provide me with any assistance during the mission?”

“Host, the system has a mall where points can be exchanged for items. This system can also provide assistance to the host within a certain range,” Xiao Jiu explained.

The appearance of the mall manifested in Yue Qing’s mind. Everything could be exchanged there, but it required points, and Yue Qing currently had none.

“Host, 500 points can be exchanged for a portable storage space. This space can store any supplies the host needs across different worlds. The space can travel with the host to various worlds and can be upgraded later,” Xiao Jiu said.

Yue Qing found this portable storage space to be very beneficial. As long as she stored supplies and food in it, she could use them when she encountered danger or difficulties.

However, Yue Qing currently had no points and could only wait until the next world to redeem them.

Yue Qing carefully considered her future plans, deciding to learn as much as possible in this world. She had always had a good memory, capable of eidetic recall, which was ideal for learning.

Although System Xiao Jiu would provide some assistance during missions, only what was learned and internalized became truly one’s own. Often, one had to rely on oneself.

After planning a series of matters, Yue Qing lay comfortably in bed, and as her emotions relaxed, she drifted into a deep sleep.
