Chapter 12 Stirred by the Scene

When she saw what it was, Fang Miaomiao's eyes lit up.

"What did your mom see?" Cui Yongsi scratched his head and thought of a descriptor, "Like a hungry wolf seeing food."

"I don't know," Wen Yan'an shook his head. From his perspective, he saw a large expanse of grassland, and not far from the grassland, a place resembling a cliff.

Then, he saw his stepmom squatting in the grass.

Not only were the two children confused, but even Cui Mantong was a little bewildered. She watched Fang Miaomiao rummaging in the grass and couldn't help but squat beside her and ask, "Miaomiao, what are you looking for? The production crew wouldn't throw food into the grass, would they?"

"I'm not looking for the production crew's food," Fang Miaomiao replied nimbly without looking up. "There's something delicious in here."

"Delicious?"

Cui Mantong instinctively looked at Cui Yongsi, who then looked at Wen Yan'an.

Small heads, big confusion.

Wen Yan'an looked helpless and shook his head, saying, "Actually, I can say I don't know either."

"Found it."

"Miaomiao, what exactly are you looking for?" Cui Mantong leaned in.

"Here." Fang Miaomiao carefully, as if it were a treasure, opened her palm to Cui Mantong. "It's this."

"What is this? A fruit?" Cui Mantong blinked confusedly, looking at the small, thumb-sized, pinkish-white oval fruit in Fang Miaomiao's palm.

"This is called a digu, a wild mountain fruit, it's very sweet," Fang Miaomiao said happily.

In her past life, before she entered the entertainment industry, her favorite thing was to work in the mountains with her grandmother, who often picked various wild fruits for her.

"Really, I'm not lying to you."

Faced with those hopeful, clear eyes, Cui Mantong couldn't refuse.

She washed the fruit, called digu, with water from her kettle and put it in her mouth.

A wave of sweetness spread across her tongue.

"How is it, is it delicious?" Fang Miaomiao looked at Cui Mantong with sparkling eyes.

Under her intense, eager gaze, Cui Mantong nodded. "It's delicious, sweet, but not just sweet like other fruits. It's really delicious."

"Right, right, I think so too," Fang Miaomiao chuckled foolishly. "There's a lot of this grass here. Since there's still time, shall we pick some of these fruits to eat later?"

"Of course."

Those clean eyes made it impossible for anyone to refuse.

Having received a positive answer, Fang Miaomiao excitedly pulled Cui Mantong along, explaining what was edible and what wasn't.

The two little ones exchanged glances and also crowded around, wanting to help pick.

"Okay, okay."

As Fang Miaomiao picked digu, tears suddenly fell uncontrollably.

She missed her grandmother.

In her previous life, she chose to enter the entertainment industry to pay for her grandmother's medical expenses. Later, she spent more time away from her grandmother than with her. When her grandmother passed away in the hospital, people from her company even forbade the hospital staff from informing her, so as not to affect her filming schedule.

She had worked so hard, yet she hadn't even seen her grandmother for the last time.

Grandmother.

[Do you guys think something is a little off with Fang Miaomiao?]

[I've actually wanted to say this for a while. Personally, I feel Fang Miaomiao has been rather careless since the live broadcast started. This seems to be the first time this episode that she's actively pulled someone over to introduce a fruit.]

[No, didn't you notice? Her body trembled just now, and then she raised her hand to her face. That movement looks like she's crying.]

[The biggest joke I've heard this year is that Fang Miaomiao would cry.]

[I agree. If nothing else, I genuinely admire Fang Miaomiao. She seems shameless, indifferent to any criticism. If I had her thick skin, I would have made it big in society already.]

[Anyway, no matter what you say, at this moment, I feel quite sorry for Fang Miaomiao. I feel like she's very lonely, completely out of place with everyone else here.]

As this comment appeared, strangely, no one rebutted.

"Out of place?" Wen Zhiyan looked at that comment and recalled his feeling from that night. He furrowed his brows slightly and then made a call.

"Master Wen." Xin Xuanlai quickly knocked and entered.

"You, investigate Fang Miaomiao again."

Xin Xuanlai looked surprised and instinctively asked, "Didn't you already look at the files before, Master?"

Wen Zhiyan rubbed his forehead. He couldn't say that he suspected the Fang Miaomiao in front of him had been swapped. "Just investigate. Remember, preferably during this period after she joined the variety show."

Although Xin Xuanlai was puzzled, he knew some things were not his place to ask. "Understood, Master. I'll arrange it immediately."

At this moment, Fang Miaomiao had no idea that her moment of genuine emotion had put her on the verge of being exposed.

"Miaomiao, your eyes?"

"Huh?" Fang Miaomiao chuckled foolishly and casually wiped her arm. "There was a gust of wind just now, and it blew dirt into my eyes."

"Just now?"

If she remembered correctly, there hadn't seemed to be any wind earlier.

"Um, you guys wait here. I think I just saw the production crew's basket. I'll go get it now."

Saying that, Fang Miaomiao placed the digu in her hand in front of Cui Mantong and then held up her fingers to count, "It'll be fast, just ten minutes. I'll be right back."

After speaking, without waiting for Cui Mantong and the others to reply, Fang Miaomiao could no longer hold back and ran down a small path.

She couldn't hold back anymore.

Looking at the scenery, which bore some resemblance to her hometown, her grandmother's voice and image became clearer in her mind.

Fang Miaomiao moved quickly, almost leaving the accompanying VJ behind.

She descended the slope using a vine.

Seeing that no one was around, she sat down on the ground, curled herself up, and let her tears flow into her arm.

Grandmother.

Are you angry with Miaomiao, so you won't send her dreams?

Grandmother, Miaomiao didn't mean to. Please don't be angry with Miaomiao, okay?

Miaomiao was wrong.

Grandmother, you said you hoped Miaomiao would be happy her whole life. Do you know that? Miaomiao transmigrated into a book written by a hater.

But, her current husband is rich.

She no longer had to rush through tasks every day, and she didn't have to work in the profession she both loved and hated.

Grandmother, would you be happy for Miaomiao if you saw this scene?

I'll be good, so, Grandmother, Miaomiao has a small wish. Can you, seeing how obedient I am, come to my dreams just once?

Just once, that's all. Miaomiao is afraid she will forget you.

Grandmother, Miaomiao, I really miss you.

The VJ who followed her looked at Fang Miaomiao, curled up small at the foot of the slope. After a moment of hesitation, he shifted the camera's direction and quietly retreated.
